Wanted to highlight a couple posts from a longer thread:

If anyone's inclined to show Margot James some love on Twitter right now it would probably be a good thing! She's going to get a lot of flack.

This Tory MP has put her head above the parapet and retweeted the link to Janice Turner's article. Link below in case anyone wants to let her know it's appreciated, it matters to women, and the issue will massively affect how we vote: mobile.twitter.com/margot_james_mp/status/959696278706905089?ref_src=twcamp%5Eshare%7Ctwsrc%5Eios%7Ctwgr%5Ecom.apple.UIKit.activity.Message

Messaged thanks via website

DailyWTFMoments · 04/02/2018 20:57

Margot James is a Minister - a member of the Government.

Members of the Government are forbidden from speaking against Government Policy (unless the matter relates to an issue that directly affects their constituency).

The fact that she has retweeted this suggests that either she is willing to risk losing her Government position over this, or there is an agreed position on this within Gov't that she is publicly supporting. I hope it's the latter.

peanut2017 · 04/02/2018 20:59

Great article

dorade · 05/02/2018 07:03

Let's hope this encourages Justine Greening to reach peak trans publicly too.

I can't help feeling there are many MPs who would join Margot once they feel there is safety in numbers. We must keep on pressing them.

Fruufruu · 05/02/2018 08:01

I've thanked her too. I wish more MPs would get their heads out of the sand when it comes to the obvious, huge practical implications of self-ID.

Lottapianos · 05/02/2018 08:07

I just messaged her to say thank you. Thanks for sharing the link

IndominusRex · 05/02/2018 08:34

So pleased to see this, have tweeted my support and will send a message via website too.

Biologicalreality · 05/02/2018 14:59

I emailed and she replied back thanking me! Wish she was my MP ( still waiting for a reply on to my email and letter to mine).

Lottapianos · 05/02/2018 15:05

I've just had a lovely email response too Biological. I hope she's drawing strength from the messages of support that she's getting

picklemepopcorn · 05/02/2018 15:36

And me!

I've not yet heard from the two local mps I emailed.

nauticant · 05/02/2018 15:53

I got a response too that showed she'd read what I'd sent her.

motmot · 05/02/2018 15:59

Just received a reply too. Very cheering.

misscockerspaniel · 05/02/2018 16:21

DailyWTFMoments - your comment about her being a Minister. I have just checked and sorry to shout but Margot James is Minister of State and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and SPORT!!!

LangCleg · 05/02/2018 16:51

I also got a response, reiterating that this "is an important issue".

picklemepopcorn · 07/02/2018 12:28

Reply from an mp I know:

Thanks for this. I totally agree with you, the whole prospect of self-ID puts an awful lot of people at risk and I would never support it. The world is going mad.

I'm not aware of Margot doing anything, maybe you can fill me in... there was talk of a bill sponsored by Justine Greening coming forward pushing for self-ID but it hasn't emerged yet. Needless to say I won't support it.

SteelyPip · 07/02/2018 12:39

I've just sent a message thanking her. (The first time I've ever thanked a Tory for anything!!)

Thanks OP for bringing this to our attention. Cake

BlindYeo · 07/02/2018 13:00

I've sent a message too Smile

BetsyM00 · 07/02/2018 13:01

Knock me down with a feather Pickle. Who is that MP? Or even which party?

picklemepopcorn · 07/02/2018 13:32

He's a Tory! I didn't want to identify him because I haven't asked him if I can share.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 07/02/2018 15:31

I've also tweeted my thanks to Margot. It's heartening to see that several transwomen have also tweeted their support.

Debbie Hayton is a transwoman who wrote a piece for the Times on why self ID is a bad idea.

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 07/02/2018 17:16

She’s my parents MP. I doubt they know that though.

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 07/02/2018 17:16

Actually they might. They are Tory voters.

Justabunchofcunts · 07/02/2018 17:51

If they would write to her too that would be great. The more letters the better.

Thank you for this. I've messaged her on Twitter and will write a letter of thanks to her.

I have stopped paying my subs to the Labour party and left because of their stance. It really annoys me when I speak to/write to my Labour MP I now know he thinks I have a ladybrain, that I identify with sexist stereotypes. He doesn't see me as fully human, just a costume.

I think a cross-party coalition of MPs against this ideology and the GRA changes is necessary.

Oh well, I now write to thank Tories, strange times.

dogendsaredogs · 07/02/2018 21:31

I messaged her through her facebook page and got a nice reply from her.
