Fuck sake.

I'm going to go and live in a cave.

noddyholder · 11/03/2015 13:39

This is a huge indicator of how society has gone and the power of reality TV. Hate the whole idea nothing to do with any views I hold on the case just it is setting a dangerous precedent from which there will be no going back.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 11/03/2015 13:41

Bloody hell.

That said, I don't think there's anyway she can use it as a platform. It's not a documentary and there are rules about what can and can't be broadcast. Will have a wee google.

Koalafications · 11/03/2015 13:47

It's bloody depressing.

It will be interesting to see how Big Brother edit her.

Concerning that they have a relatively young audience.

Well there's lots in the Ofcom broadcast code.

He can't profit directly or indirectly (or through another person) for his crime.
A person who could reasonably be expected to be called as a witness in a criminal trial isn't allowed to discuss it on TV.
Any on-going legal process isn't allowed to be discussed (has his appeal finally been nixed?)
Obviously his victim can't be named, discussed or defamed.

And "broadcasters MUST avoid unjust or unfair treatment of individuals or
organisations in programmes." (my emphasis) so anything she says about the victim (which is the only way really to 'clear his name') would be highly unlikely to be broadcastable.

Namechanged101 · 11/03/2015 13:53

Wow channel 5 really?! That's a new low. I won't be watching she has come out with vile stuff on twitter before now I can't stomach watching her enable her brother's attempts to 'clear his name'.
They seem to all forget- Ched, his sister, his gf, his mum etc Etc he was arrested based on his account of what happen he admitted not seeking consent therefore rape. How deludes himself otherwise is actually amazing to me.
No if she's on then I won't be tuning in

pand0raslunchb0x · 11/03/2015 14:02

Disgusting behaviour attempting to use reality TV in an attempt to manipulate the public, obviously their efforts and petitions aren't worthy or accurate on their own merit. The courts were 100% right in their verdict I think and lets spare a thought for the victim, who now lives in exile while he walks free, expecting to jump back into a career in the influential public eye and condone others doing the same? I think not.

AuntieStella · 11/03/2015 14:04

"(has his appeal finally been nixed?)"

It was referred to CCRC in July 2014, and I'm sure I read somewhere that it was expected to take about 35 weeks to rule, which would mean about now. But his team also submitted what they called new evidence in January and if that resets a 35-week clock completely, it would take until about September.

Kampeki · 11/03/2015 14:08

Utterly shocking that being the sister of a convicted racist can now confer some sort of warped "celebrity" status.

I certainly shan't be watching. However, I suspect I'm not their target audience.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 11/03/2015 14:56

Thanks AuntieStella

Koalafications · 11/03/2015 17:59

That's very interesting Lonny

I assume that means they won't be able to broadcast much of her trying to 'clear his name'. I'm sure she will do lots of magazine interviews afterwards trying to convince us of Ched's innocence. Hmm

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 11/03/2015 18:19

Yy kampeki. Why are C5 doing this? Would they have max Clifford's sister on?

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 11/03/2015 18:22

I really, really hope that's what it means. I don't think BB has been a huge ratings hit for C5 so I imagine they want to stir up some controversy by signing her, which is pretty reprehensible, but there does seem to be limits round what she can actually say, which is reassuring. Especially as the appeal process is still ongoing, there are pretty strict rules...

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 11/03/2015 18:50

Anyone up for a petition and complaint to BB sponsors?

SunshineBossaNova · 11/03/2015 18:52

Ugh. I'm up for a petition and complaint.

Koalafications · 11/03/2015 19:00

Absolutely AKnickerful

HangingInAGruffaloStance · 11/03/2015 19:00

WTAF.what are they going to call her -" celebrity rape apologist"?

Koalafications · 11/03/2015 19:08

I don't think she is going into the 'celebrity version' not that that makes it ny better.

OP posts:
SurlyCue · 11/03/2015 19:17

So last year they used josie cunningham to try and stir up some public discussion about the show that i thought had ended years ago this year theyre doing this? How low will channel 5 go? And also, will it actually come to fruition? Josie didnt.

Koalafications · 11/03/2015 19:22

Good point Surly Josie was used by BB twice, firstly for non-celeb BB and then for CBB.

OP posts:
ThreadkillerCilla · 11/03/2015 19:22

More and more shameful decisions from broadcasters Sad

Steben · 11/03/2015 19:25

Christ almighty they must be scraping the barrel

SurlyCue · 11/03/2015 19:32

I really hope it is just publicity stunt for ch5 to drum up interest and that it doesnt happen. BB used to be complete randomers who auditioned via video and were chosen on personality. Now it seems that you need to already have had your public exposure before being of any interest to the producers. Not really how it should be is it? It isnt the celebrity version so should be complete "unknowns" imo. Certainly not airtime for convicted rapists (i know it isnt him but it is indirectly him clearing his name) it is a fucking disgrace that it would even be considered.

Namechanged101 · 11/03/2015 19:45

Yy to petition sounds good

PilchardPrincess · 11/03/2015 19:54

OMFG so they are getting someone on who will spend all their time saying a convicted rapist didn't do anything wrong, in order to get some ratings?

That's vile, I mean, really grim.

His poor fucking victim it's staggering.
