Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

AIBU to think that if MN are willing to boycott certain groups on ethical grounds

they really should take a look at banning posters proclaiming themselves MRAs?

Sexist,

often racist,

frequently rape/ domestic violence deniers

I know that mumsnet want to keep a lively discussion going and not ban free speech but when they join a forum mainly used by women it's hard to believe it's not about being goady and spewing propaganda.

The result is that normal posters get angry..
engage...

And then get deleted or banned for "personal attack".

Using a nasty word for someone who has by just stating that they are an MRA has basically said you don't matter as a human seems the normal response.

There are a few, actually, treen. I've probably seen them all over the years. I've yet to see a reasonable one.

Here's a clue for you: VFM, J4M&B, F4J - all mra and anti-women.

Movember: campaigning/fundraising for men's health issues - not mra.

Sabrina,.........You don't think there are any sub-groups or branches within the movement. You are deliberately being misleading.
This type of lying will only inflame both movements.

There you go, paperlantern.

Treen44444 · 01/11/2013 19:26

Do they all say the same thing? Or is there even a range between the more extreme ones?

SabrinaMulFUCKERJjones · 01/11/2013 19:28

There may be a range - but the anti-feminist ones are all hateful...add anti-misandry to the list too, and Mumsnet Sucks. They orchestrate mra invasions to MN quite publicly.

Treen44444 · 01/11/2013 19:38

It's funny how the anti-feminist ones are hateful! Not.

That's the extreme for you. Extreme feminist blogs are hateful.

But you can see past it can't you?

SabrinaMulFUCKERJjones · 01/11/2013 19:39

Nope. No matter what I do, I can't seem to see past anti-women hatred.

EarthMither · 01/11/2013 19:40

Can you provide some links to reasonable, middle-of-the-road MRA websites Treen? I've Googled and I haven't been able to find any.

Suelford · 01/11/2013 19:41

"Mumsnet Sucks. They orchestrate mra invasions to MN quite publicly."

Is this the Facebook group who's latest two posts were in February, and prior to that, June 2012?

Or the Wordpress site last updated in September 2011?

I'm sure they must be a constant burden...

Treen44444 · 01/11/2013 19:44

Sabrina, hatred is bad. It is within many groups, but you can see the minority for what they are.

Feminists aren't man haters just because some are. Many groups are like this

Grennie · 01/11/2013 19:46

And feminists on MN are not hateful and don't link to hateful blogs.

SabrinaMulFUCKERJjones · 01/11/2013 19:48

They certainly don't grennie - they are just constantly accused of it.

SabrinaMulFUCKERJjones · 01/11/2013 19:50

Sue - your post drips of sarcasm, and yet you linked to a reddit page recently to gleefully tell us all that one of our threads was being talked about on there.... I'm sure it was you.

paperlantern · 01/11/2013 19:55

My bad - problem is by focussing on one badly worded sentence, the point as a whole is missed

Suelford · 01/11/2013 19:57

"Sue - your post drips of sarcasm"

Well, yeah... I was being really sarcastic.

"and yet you linked to a reddit page recently to gleefully tell us all that one of our threads was being talked about on there.... I'm sure it was you."

Don't really get the "and yet" bit, how are the two related? Yes, I linked to a reddit thread about the "men pooing" discussion. And?

SigmundFraude · 01/11/2013 20:00

I was flipping between reading this thread and reading another blog just now when I read this on here:

'When you defend them, you are speaking up for them, treen. Why are you defending them?'

It kind of tied in with a comment from the blog I was reading, the part about 'Others who are under the influence will then band together to persuade the person emerging that they are wrong or not thinking straight', although I'm guessing treen isn't a feminist, so not quite the same.

Here's the comment in full, 'cos I just know you'll appreciate it. Incidentally, this woman is an ex-feminist...

"In actual fact, the letting go of the feminist myth was a bit like coming out of a severely alienated state. It happens in shades, in layers and it feels like coming up from the depths of one consciousness into another. Feminism as a belief system, as a structure, alienates men and women from the whole of who they are in my view and teaches that only one way of being is the ‘right way’ all others are wrong. Just like an alienating parent, this teaching of the belief system is inculcated and kept in place by behavioral tweaks and, often, threats of exclusion from the community. As the alienation lifts, these can escalate, with threats becoming overt against the person to keep the belief structure in place and the person under the influence of the dominant belief structure. Others who are under the influence will then band together to persuade the person emerging that they are wrong or not thinking straight and will point out examples to ‘prove’ how dangerous changing one’s thinking is, often using personal issues from the past to confuse or dizzy the emerging person so that clarity is lost and the fear which is generated pulls the person back into the fold, where the group psyche is then loving and welcoming so that the struggle to get free is forgotten as fear subsides. Am I saying that feminism is like a cult? Yes, I think I probably am."

SabrinaMulFUCKERJjones · 01/11/2013 20:00

Yes, it wasn't inflammatory at all sue.

The mumsnet sucks peeps have probly all moved over to reddit anyway - that's where a lot of the mra invasions come from now.

SabrinaMulFUCKERJjones · 01/11/2013 20:03

I can do sarcasm too Smile

Grennie · 01/11/2013 20:04

I didn't realise the MRAs actually named particular feminist they were going after, on their sites. Yes they are not interested in helping men, just attacking feminists and women generally.

Treen44444 · 01/11/2013 20:10

Greenie - some MRAs doing that is disgusting. They shouldn't (a) target (b) name people. Hopefully the police will deal with them

SigmundFraude · 01/11/2013 20:11

Er...I think Paul Elam has been mentioned once or twice on this thread, and the man has a shitload of abusive emails from feminists 'going after' him. Is it different when feminists 'go after' and attack MRAs and men generally then?

Suelford · 01/11/2013 20:12

"Yes, it wasn't inflammatory at all sue."

What was inflammatory about it? I wasn't the one who posted it on Reddit, nor did I discuss it on Reddit. I let posters on the MN thread know they were being discussed - should I not have?

"that's where a lot of the mra invasions come from now"

Got any proof at all of that? I thought it was Pistonheads or something that was the current troll du jour.

Grennie · 01/11/2013 20:12

Sigmund - Do any MNers send Paul abusive emails? If not, it is not equivalent.

MRA's are naming particular feminists on MN and talking about going after them on MN.

SabrinaMulFUCKERJjones · 01/11/2013 20:18

Yes, like the bank notes stuff. Or the Mary Beard fiasco. Or the Louise Mensch business. Or

Grennie · 01/11/2013 20:20

Sigmund has said many times she is an MRA. How you can defend someone like Paul Elam is beyond me.

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 01/11/2013 20:21

ahem

I said:

hey how about just linking to sites that call women lying whores? Or that says some women deserve to be run over or beaten up, or where the "leader" says he has no sympathy for rape victims and most of thm are liars anyway

No one said Elam. If people assumed Elam because he is a disgusting rape denying creep. I can't be held responsible.
