This has made me really uneasy I'd like your thoughts

im on my phone so can't link butwas driving and heard an ad on the radio for the Belfast telegraph. I'm hoping some of you can link and if not I will get the Paper later and scan it in.

Can you tell from looking at a woman how many sexual partners she has had. Who has slept with only one man who is saving herself and who has had 15 partners.

What do you think?

Have the paper in my hand. Front page how many lovers should a woman have life Pg 21 and the headline of the article starts one of these women is a virgin with photos.

I've now read the article and it really worries me.

One of the comments is that women with a large number of sexual partners are often branded easy whereas men feel comfortable boasting about their number of conquests.

It's the use of teh word "should" that sticks in the throat - how many men should a woman have slept with? Who has the right to define what's an appropriate number?

The article is just wrong on so many levels - it's not online that I can see but the text of it is horrible and the interviews are a bit one sided - there's 3 Christians who chose to wait and their interviews are a whole page, and 2 girls who have slept with both men and women (ie no woman who has just slept with men) and their interviews are only 1/4 of the size of the others.

It's scarlet woman stuff. Exposing and shaming the woman who acts sexually.

Also it's supposed to be titillating, because you're supposed to look at those three women and imagine them having sex. Grim.

I am very angry and pissed off and am seriously considering emailing or writing to them.

Again, hope that works - that's the actual article - the whole left hand page is the virgin/only slept with husbands brigade (all Christians) and the two wee tiny bits on the left are the two girls who have had more experiences.

Most people here would see nothing wrong with it though, good ol' Norn Iron and it's Christian-based patriarchy.

I know women who have never orgasmed and see nothing wrong with it, who have no idea how their own bodies work because sex, even within marriage, is so shameful...

It makes me feel ill.

It's just really vile.

They have stupid articles like this in women's magazines, but at least only women will see them. For men to be reading about and judging these women in a newspaper is pretty sick, especially given the sexual double standard.

You could also mention that christianity (of both brands) is responsible for the virgin/whore dichotomy, but that might get you into trouble with everybody in NI.

And how stereotypical that the tattooed pierced girl is the bi-sexual with the most partners.
