I don't know a soul here (we moved here from London a few months ago). What do we think about joining the WI? It's women only, enshrined in their constitution.

I've never made jam in my life. Can I effect revolution from within do you reckon?

I didn't know who proudhon was either so thank you. Was that my fault for mentioning the anarchist t shirt? :o

Sorry nickel. Your website looks great and that's really encouraging. I don't think we have a dedicated website here. Perhaps that something I can do?

(you're not far from me by the way :) )

yes - if you get involved (and join), please do set up a website.
mine is a freebie one, done through Webeden, and it's sooo simple to use.

I am the one that set up our website - i'm the only who contributes to content (although I'm nagging them all at the moment to send me stuff for it)

WIs who are older tend to love it when younger women join, and they throw themselves into the modern era! Grin

some of our ladies are very proud of being "silver surfers" and they have email addresses and just marvel at modern technology!
the younger ones (well, the 50s) roll their eyes and complain about internets and email being the bane of thair (working) lives! Grin

am i allowed to ask where you are?

LadyBiscuit · 05/02/2011 13:29

I'm in Broadstairs :)

I've just done one for my consultancy business which wasn't too difficult (although it did entail a fair bit of swearing!)

My parents (in their 70s) love their internet - my dad is constantly checking his emails on my itouch when he comes over :o

I'm getting quite keen on this joining the WI idea. I wonder if mine would be as fun as yours all sound!

nickelthenaughtybutnicefairy · 05/02/2011 15:30

dunno- a WI is only as fun as its members - so if you're not involved, then you can't say, can you! Wink

I'm a bit late to this party (as ever) but I read this last week, and it made me wonder.
Today, the local freebie magazine plopped through the letter box and there is an advert for a newish WI group!!

I am really needing to get out and socialise so gave the number a ring.

The woman I spoke to was really nice, gave me a run through of the next meeting, they are doing flower arranging Shock

I must have sounded worried so she asked 'are you good at flower arranging?' to which I answered 'erm..no'

Her answer.....

'Me either, mine will probably be the shittest you've ever seen'

I think I'm going to like fit right in Grin

GlynistheGimmer · 10/02/2011 16:07

Blush maybe they will do proof reading after the flower arranging

I think I'm going to fit right in, no idea where the 'like' came from Confused

AliceWorld · 10/02/2011 18:02

I like 'fit like right in'. It's the street version of the WI, innit.

butterpieify · 10/02/2011 20:49

I'm totally joining the WI. I have a few near me, how do I know which will be best? I really need to make nearby friends- should I just go for the nearest, or be fussier?
