"let our women readers eavesdrop on those men-only moments "
GREAT!
I work in a male-dominated industry.
I like to watch comedy and listen to Radio 4.
My DP is a man.
I listen to men all my waking hours. Can't wait to hear even more from them!!!!

:o Sticky, what an opportunity eh?

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 26/01/2011 14:54

rofl Sticky!

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 26/01/2011 14:56

Thank goodness that men at last will get a chance to have their say, they are usually so underrepresented!

StickyProblem · 26/01/2011 14:58

hi Elephants I know, pore menz who never get listened to. Smile

I have already heard my DP's views at great length on the subject (although I've been avoiding the rest of the media coverage).

Feminists don't live all together in a newspaper-free internet-free lesbian nun farm. We hear plenty about what men think.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 26/01/2011 15:05

'Feminists don't live all together in a newspaper-free internet-free lesbian nun farm.'

though I'm up for it if you are.

StickyProblem · 26/01/2011 16:03

E&M hope I didn't offend any sisters and Sisters who do actually live in such a place!
Do they do weekend breaks?!

David51 · 26/01/2011 16:19

Well that went down like a lead balloon, not quite what I expected Confused

Still have a lot to learn it would seem so thanks for the feedback

:o Sticky.

Don't be all twirly-faced David :). Actually I think it will be quite interesting to hear what men "talk about in male-only environments". If I still had a non-sexist DP I would be telling him to hie over there straight away. And too often they do just ask women how they feel about sexism, which is annoying as it gives the impression that it's our problem to sort out. (Not the One show last night, which I happened to flip past and was interviewing loads of football fans of both sexes of whom nearly all thought Andy Gray deserved the sack.)

It is just quite funny, the idea that we don't usually get to hear men's views on sexism and whether it exists/is a problem etc. Much like when a new film comes out about a commitment-phobic wealthy white middle-aged American man and his relationships with his mates - always end up hissing "well thank god, because that's one of the world's great untold stories isn't it."

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/01/2011 16:35

Erm, Sticky. I'm a bit confused about whether we're actually going to cultivate nuns, or actually be them.

ISNT · 26/01/2011 16:43

Hmmmm

I'm not sure that many men do actually tone down what they say when in the presence of "laydeees", so I'm reasonably sure I know pretty much what men talk about when they talk about women in a way that most of us hope they wouldn't Grin

I wonder how many male pro-feminist lurkers will take up your challenge David Smile

StickyProblem · 26/01/2011 17:00

LOL Elephants, yes lesbians farming nuns would be weird. I meant lesbians AND nuns doing farming. Like, you could do sex if you wanted, in our women-only media-free venue.

David51 I just wrote a long reply and then deleted it. I'm not quite sure what your agenda is. If you want info for the Guardian I think you need to go to Media Requests. It was the idea that women would be strangely fascinated by men-only talk that just made me erupt into bizarre scenarios!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/01/2011 17:01

Well I wanted to say that, ISNT, but then thought how am I to know? :o

Agree though, so many men delight in saying sexist shit in the presence of women, men, children, dogs, hamsters, librarians, the lot. They're the "proud to be un-PC" lot. God smite love 'em.

StickyProblem · 26/01/2011 17:02

And I agree with ISNT. I have enough of an idea what revolting-man-chat would be like, and I don't want to ever hear it, hence I've ignored the media coverage of this Sky crap. And if anyone did it in front of me in the workplace I'd complain to them, and about them, till they stopped or got sacked.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/01/2011 17:03

think David is a supportive regular here (sorry if that makes him sound like a strange military rank, or a pair of special pants)

"Like, you could do sex if you wanted, in our women-only media-free venue." - :o this just gets better and better. Can we worship the vulva-goddess when the moon is full?

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 26/01/2011 18:05

I seriously believe David51 is a genuine profeminist man.
and we have had quite a few fakes.

AliceWorld · 26/01/2011 18:08

To start with I though it was David from the Hooters thread. But then he consistently wasn't an idiot so I am starting to be won round...

ISNT · 26/01/2011 19:15

Yes I think we like David too.
