Awaiting biopsy results

Lily1x · 18/06/2025 20:15

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone else is currently in the same boat as me and would like to virtually wait together. I am awaiting biopsy results from a lump in my right breast - the consultant has said he is not expecting anything concerning to come back as my ultrasound came back normal but while I cannot change the outcome of the results the anxieties take over and my mind still goes to the worst case scenario xx

@Lily1x its going to be a long wait. I had similar a few years ago, all okay in the end. Sending hugs 🫂 💐 🙏 ❤️ to you x how soon do you get the results?

Lily1x · 18/06/2025 20:23

Thank you for your reply and hugs @shellyleppard! I am glad everything was okay for you in the end. My appointment was only yesterday 😫 not looking forward to the wait, he said 1-2 weeks x

@Lily1x try and put it to the back of your mind mind. I know its not easy but its the only way to cope. Fingers crossed for you 🤞 💐 🙏

Hi @lily1x.Thank you for your message on the other post. I tried to DM you but can't workout how to do it from the app. I'm so sorry you are in this awful position too. It's really horrible and very stressful. I don't know how I'm getting through each day. My biopsy was done 1 week ago today and I have not received an appointment to go back yet. I think they said something about results being looked at on Monday 23rd by the team. I hope this is something that happens with all biopsy results and not just mine because they thought there was something wrong. How are you doing today?

babystarsandmoon · 19/06/2025 11:21

Slightly different but I am waiting for cervical biopsies.

Infracat · 19/06/2025 11:39

Hugs to you @babystarsandmoonhow long have you got left to wait?

Sunniehols · 19/06/2025 12:04

Hi I’m not in your position but I’ve been in similar in the past. I know it’s easier said than done but try your best to just carry on as normal. Right now at this moment in time you have no news and no results so carry on like it’s not happened. Best advice I ever had was ‘worry when you are told you need to, otherwise you will only suffer twice and for longer’.
Wishing you all the best for good results and remember something like 9 out of 10 people get good news when biopsied x

I really like that line @Sunniehols
Worry when you are told you need to, otherwise you will only suffer twice and for longer. It's very true.

Lily1x · 19/06/2025 14:56

@Infracat thank you! I feel for you, It is a really stressful limbo place to be. Well done to you for getting through a whole week though, I am only on day 2 of waiting. I am trying to remain positive as I can’t change the outcome now anyway. But still crosses my mind every minute 😂. I was told by the specialist that he is not expecting concerning results so I have that to keep me going.

I have no clue if that’s what they do, but I did read they will discuss all investigations that have been carried out at MDT meeting, which doesn’t happen every day so it could just be where all teams that have been involved meet up to discuss findings weather they be bad or good. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

If you don’t mind sharing, what’s your story?

Mine is - found a lump went to the GP, referred to one stop shop breast clinic, was examined again, the lump I had found was not of concern but he found a palpable 1.5cm localised lump on the other breast, sent to ultrasound which I was told was normal, left the room feeling happy, assuming I was going to get to leave but the specialist wanted to see me again after having the US and wanted to do a core biopsy on the lump. I left there okay actually, thought “brilliant, nothing is standing out and he’s airing on the side of caution given family history” but then that doesn’t last as soon as you get home and think about it 😂 x

@babystarsandmoon oh bless you, how are you feeling? Do you have long to wait. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you and we can all wait here together ♥️ feel free to unload it all x

@Sunniehols you are so right! I love that, I am just carrying on as you have to don’t you, unfortunately the world doesn’t stop, bills still need to be paid and mouths fed. It’s just the contact what if feeling I hate. Thank you for your message ♥️

I am waiting too. A Biopsy after a mammogram recall was taken on Monday. I was more anxious after the recall message after I received the letter on the 6th June for an appt on the 27th May. Nobody contacted me other than this one letter at all, not even when I failed to show up for the appointment. So my biopsy on the 16th was already so delayed and I had time to imagine all sorts. I know now that I likely have DCIS. While I'm not thrilled I recognise it could be worse and am fairly calm and resigned to an op and maybe radiotherapy.
I hope the time passes quickly for you OP and that your result is good. I'd take heart that the US wasn't concerning. If you look on the Cancer forum at a thread with Ultrasound in the title it does look as though cancer can be detected by US unless it is very early.

Lily1x · 19/06/2025 15:39

@Trushy oh blimey, you’ve been through it then. It saddens me that no one thought to reach you after you missed an appointment. Especially as it’s not one someone would usually fail to attend without communication from yourself. It’s scary to think you could have slid under the radar. But I am so glad you managed to get another appointment and that you are remaining calm and taking the “could be worse approach”. I hope it all goes well for you in the future.

Thank you for your reassurance, I think I have looked at that thread which did bring me some ease, I am only 29 about to enter my 3rd decade next week 🥂 so through my research I’ve found some lumps are quite common with my age so hoping for the best. My auntie was diagnosed when she was only a couple years older than I am so I have been referred to family history practitioner and he said it just might mean starting mammograms earlier than normal.

I found a lump in my armpit one evening about 3 weeks ago. I went to the gp and he said he couldn't feel my lump but another one. He said it was deep. He referred me to the one stop breast clinic. The consultant at the clinic had a good feel of everything and said she couldn't feel the lump, mine or his. She said my right breast was knotty. So I was happy with that. Went for mammogram. Then onto ultrasound. She was taking her time going over my right breast and I said to her have you found something is it bad. She said the mammogram had shown up some shadowing. When she uktasounded the area she showed me an thick area of tissue filled with what could be cysts - she mentioned cystic fibrotic tissue. She said they wanted to do a biopsy to make sure it's not something sinister, oh and they put markers in too. Did they do that for you @Lily1x? After the biopsy she said that she was reassured that the tissue broke up when the needle went in but couldn't guarantee anything. She said not to spend the next two weeks stressing out over it. But that's easier said than done.
I then had to have another mammogram to make sure the markers were in place

Lily1x · 19/06/2025 19:32

@Infracat ah bless you, do you have a copy of the clinic letter sent to your GP yet that explains their findings etc from that visit? It may make you feel at ease to keep re-reading as they are benign aren’t they - it is so hard not to worry, I totally understand! No, no markers have been put in for me. But I wouldn’t worry to much about those, I have been reading all sorts and I think they are just there to help locate where you have had biopsies from, for future screening(although I am In no way medically trained). I think if the tissue broke up that is a good sign though as it means it probably is some cysts and they’ve been burst as the needle has gone in, doesn’t it? It is extremely hard not to worry, so they have already pre booked you an appointment for after the 23rd or did they say they will they ring you/send letter?

OP posts:
Infracat · 19/06/2025 21:44

No. There isn't a letter on my gp file. Maybe the gp doesnt upload it as dont want people stressing out? I dont know. Theres nothing on my nhs app either.
They haven't booked me a return appt yet. They said it will be face to face and its face to face for everyone so not to read anything into that.
Can you see your notes then?

Lampzade · 19/06/2025 21:49

babystarsandmoon · 19/06/2025 11:21

Slightly different but I am waiting for cervical biopsies.

Me too

Lily1x · 19/06/2025 22:03

@Infracat yeah I can see mine, but I have an app through my local hospital and my patient access so I can see the letter he addressed to the GP, which isn’t yet uploaded to patient access, it only really states the tests I had carried out, the location of the lump(localised lumpiness) and size(1.5cm). Wasn’t much else on there. Hopefully you will hear from them soon with a date to go and get your results. Keep me updated if you’re comfortable too, and obviously message on here any time you just need to vent and let out some anxiety around waiting for results etc ♥️

It's crazy how the brain works as one minute I can be positive and think ok it's going to be fine. And then the next minute all the what ifs and buts come in. And those last a lot longer.

Lily1x · 20/06/2025 13:28

I know it’s awful isn’t it. I feel the same as you, it’s the waiting and I’m only on day 3. Checking my phone constantly.

On a plus side you’re almost at the end of your waiting period and whatever the outcome(hopefully good) at least you’ll know and be on the right path already if need be. If their MDT meeting is on the 23rd June you should hopefully hear something by the afternoon (if morning meeting)🤞🏼. Where in the UK are you/what hospital is it?

OP posts:
Infracat · 20/06/2025 13:45

I really hope it's good. We go on a big family holiday in 2 weeks. I'm also worrying that if it's bad we'll have to cancel and everyone would be so upset and disappointed. Also I cannot get excited about the holwith this going on.
Im being seen at Crawley hospital in West Sussex.
Where are you? I think I will ring on Mon afternoon. I'm desperate to know before we go away.
I'm sorry you feel the same. The days just drag. I really hope we both get a good result. Yours does sound pretty positive from what they said.

Infracat · 21/06/2025 16:14

Today is a hard one. Home alone. Everyone out. Just me and my mind. Not good.

Lily1x · 21/06/2025 19:59

@Infracat sorry, I have just seen your message.

Please try and not put extra worry on yourself regarding your family holiday. Yes if you don’t hear anything, I’d definitely call too. Maybe just call bang on 12. I am at Royal Devon & Exeter.

How are you doing now? It’s hard being left alone with your mind and devices that have google 😂

I’ve kept myself busy today, I had a BBQ to attend so it took my mind off it for awhile. With the odd bad thought creeping back in when I would laugh at something, weirdly!

I know nothing will stop you worrying but I was told at my first appointment that I had breast cancer. I had biopsy’s at a later date to confirm type of cancer etc. Drs mostly know if it is or not when they first examine you.
the two week wait for my appointment was the worst most worrying part of my treatment.
i live on my own and I didn’t tell anyone because I didn’t want to worry them but I had 24hr radio the house was never quiet, I walked and I cleaned once I got the diagnosis I was fine.
it will pass you will get through it.
wishing you the Best of luck.
