Hand hold needed

So I found a lump in my breast over the last weekend and have been in a bit of turmoil ever since.

i’m 30 with a 2 year old little boy and honestly I feel like everything has just come to a standstill. I went to the GP yesterday and they did their exam and I have been referred under the 2 weeks referral. She did say she thought it was likely a cyst but the whole ‘what if’ is really consuming me at the moment.

just looking for a hand hold really and wondering if anyone had been through anything similar? Also don’t really know what to expect with the referral either if anyone has experiences?

thanks

I've been referred on the two week wait for breast lumps three times now. I'm about the same age as you, also with young kids. Every time it's been nothing. Once it was a lymph nodes in an unusual place, once lumpy tissue, and once some common lump you get when you're breastfeeding but it sorts itself. They'll feel the lump at the clinic, then ultrasound it. For me they've been able to tell straight away at that point that it's fine. If they hadn't the next step would've been to take a sample. Best of luck, the vast majority of referrals are nothing.

kellyjo4 · 30/05/2025 13:41

Ive been referred too and my appointment is next week. 38 with 3 children. Feeling very anxious but it’s good to read everyone’s positive outcomes. Fingers crossed we get the same

Histoscientist · 30/05/2025 13:46

You must be frightened and worried. Last year I had a lump in my armpit and turned out to be a small cyst. I also work in histology in an nhs hospital, we dissect and examine all the tissue taken and there are many breast lumps that end up being benign, not only cysts, but also fibroids which are more common.
My sister has had fibroids since she was 21, she gets one coming up every few years and gets it checked, has had scans and cores taken a few times but it was just fibroids.
Please try not to worry as the stress won't do any good. Do things you enjoy and relax the best you can. Healthcare has come a long way in the 2 decades that I've been working in it, with more focus on patients, so you will be in good hands.

Wow that must have been stressful to go through three times never mind the once! So glad yours were all ok though

I think it would be helpful to keep it in perspective that you're being referred to confirm that it's harmless. Your GP hasn't expressed any concerns or suspicions and is simply following the process to confirm that it is definitely benign.

Over 90% of breast clinic referrals are for benign reasons.

You may find this info helpful about what to expect - the clinic is basically a one-stop shop for you to get all the tests you need in one place:

Hi just joining in here as in a similar situation, lumpy breast and dimple… breast clinic in just over a week. Nice to chat to others going through similar as I have no one in real Life to chat to about feeling scared x

thismummyslife · 30/05/2025 21:44

Oh please don’t worry, I’ve had this a few times. Any lump at all they always send you on the TWW, does it move around? At least you know it’s going to get sorted whatever it is, but I know exactly how you feel, big hugs x

Summertimeflowers · 30/05/2025 21:46

No it doesn’t appear to move @thismummyslifewhich is making me more nervous. Just hoping to get the appointment soon, it’s the waiting around.

@Mrsworried1hope your appointment goes well!

Was just wondering if it’s the same as what I have, they are commonly known as breast mice, it could be so many things, our boobs are weird little buggers x

Mrsworried1 · 30/05/2025 23:04

Do you have your appointment yet?
let me know how you get on and in the meantime just chat away on here if it makes u feel better? I know it does for me x

LogicalBlodge · 30/05/2025 23:41

I had a small lump that turned out to be a cyst.

Infracat · 30/05/2025 23:49

I'm in the same situation. Went togp on tuesday with an armpit lump. He then found another lump which he said us deep. I've been referred on 2ww but no appointment yet. I did have a lump a few years back which was a cyst but that was behind the nipple not in the armpit area. I've been trying to be calm about it but am freaking out inside.

Summertimeflowers · 31/05/2025 07:38

@Mrsworried1not yet, unfortunately the 2 week referral where I am is more like 4-6 weeks according to my GP so I’ve decided to go private. I’m luckily covered through my work so now have an appointment on Wednesday. Can’t stop worrying about it.

@Infracatit’s so hard isn’t it, never experienced anything like this before. Hopefully we’ll both be fine!

Mine is on Friday. Hopefully you will hear at the beginning of the week xx

alittleworried83 · 31/05/2025 16:10

@Summertimeflowersi have been to the breast clinic a few times over the years as I’m blessed with cystic breasts - lucky me!

however the last time I had a referral I was absolutely terrified as my lump was irregular shaped, hard and didn’t seem to move at all. It turned out to be a clump of a few cysts together.

Summertimeflowers · 02/06/2025 09:30

just an update: have an appointment Wednesday so not too long to wait but feeling so stressed about it

OP posts:
kellyjo4 · 02/06/2025 13:31

That’s good then hopefully Wednesday will bring good news xx

Allthepictureframes · 02/06/2025 13:56

I’ve been referred twice under the 2 week pathway. Both times for hard, irregular, immovable lumps. One felt almost square! Both times they were cysts. I totally understand your worry but the overwhelming likelihood is that it’s a cyst. Good luck for Wednesday xx

CatAsstrophe · 02/06/2025 14:00

I've been referred via the 2 week pathway for breast lumps 3 times now. Thankfully, the lumps were found to be cysts with no treatment required.

This bit, the wait, is awful. I feel your pain @Summertimeflowers but at least you don't have too long to wait now.

All the best for a good outcome to your appointment 💐

Bumping

I found a lump on Thursday and have been to the breast clinic today. I had an examination, mammogram and ultrasound and I’m so pleased to say it’s all clear and they believe it was caused by hormones. I really hope this gives you some comfort that it’s not always cancer. It’s understandable to be terrified though at the prospect of what it might be, I haven’t slept properly but will sleep easier tonight. Good luck with your appointment

kellyjo4 · 03/06/2025 20:55

Hope your appointment brings good news tomorrow. Let us know how you get on. Xx

Vallmo47 · 03/06/2025 21:06

Yes I’ve been in a similar situation a couple of times OP - the first time it was a blocked duct (breastfeeding related) and the second time a cyst that got inflamed and had to be surgically removed. The 2 week wait and the big C word are scary words but bottomline is you are glad they’re looking into this properly and you’re in the right hands OP. Good luck tomorrow
