Blood with bowel movement -worrying

quiltbear · 30/06/2024 09:44

I'm 38 and a week ago I went to the toilet and after bowel movement when I wiped there was a bit of red blood (1/4 of a penny )
No blood in toilet or stool
Next day nothing when I wiped
Then today when I wiped there a tiny bit of red blood on tissue.
The last few times when I've done a bowel movement it's been a sharp feeling when passing it (sorry for tmi )
Then afterwards my bottom feels a bit burny and sore and a little itchy.
Anyway I'm worrying obviously
Is this likely to be something sinister ?

Sounds like haemorrhoids but get it checked out. Bright red blood means its coming from the end of the bowel

GoogleWhacking · 30/06/2024 09:46

It sounds a bit like you might have an anal fissure, or a hemorrhoid. Try not to worry as there isn't blood in your stool it is likely not cancer. Go see a GP if it continues.

Darkfire · 30/06/2024 09:47

Try some haemorrhoid cream or suppositories , that’s the most likely cause.

quiltbear · 30/06/2024 09:50

I have endometriosis too
Could this cause any symptoms ?

Itchy bum, bright red blood on the paper - classic haemorrhoids.

Overthehillbutnotveryfar · 30/06/2024 09:54

Just go to the doctor - no one on mumsnet can give you the reassurance you seek.

quiltbear · 30/06/2024 09:59

If it continues I will go to GP
Just asking for people's opinions
It's very itchy
Mostly after going to the toilet
Straight after bowel movement for a minute my bottom feels burning and like a sharp prickly feeling
It's hard to explain
I've looked closely at stool and can't see any blood in that but I know it's probably hard to see

Fissure or piles! Make sure you're drinking enough to keep things soft on their way out. Out of all the creams and suppositories, I've found superdrug's own brand gel for the former and Germaloids for the latter to be the most effective.

Long time pile owner who would rather not go through the surgery to have them removed 😉

Safa2 · 30/06/2024 10:00

If it’s itchy and it’s bright red blood only on ur toilet paper it’s definitely piles

get some anosal cream use it for 7 days and see how u get on

quiltbear · 30/06/2024 10:06

What about the burning sensation? Could that be piles too ?

OP posts:
quiltbear · 30/06/2024 10:07

Also if it was these things why sometimes is there zero blood on paper ?

Okwotnext · 30/06/2024 10:10

My husband has same. He went to doc and they’ve run blood test and examined and all seems fine. However to be 100% sure he has a colonoscopy booked for Tuesday on nhs. It is better to be sure so please get it checked.

fourelementary · 30/06/2024 10:10

Yep piles. There isn’t always blood as it is up in your bottom- sometimes when you’ve pooped a bit of it will be squeezed and perhaps protrude out but then will likely go back in… hence sometimes blood and sometimes not. They can be like wee grapes or berries up in your bottom… and swell and shrink too. Get a cream and applicator from the chemist in the first instance and increase your water intake too as constipation or harder stool makes it worse.

quiltbear · 30/06/2024 10:11

@Okwotnext did he have the itchiness and burning too ?
Fingers crossed your husband is okay too
Great his getting checked out

quiltbear · 30/06/2024 10:17

@fourelementary Thankyou that's reassured me
I have health anxiety so I've had myself in bits

Scared to go to the toilet

I have had internal piles and I have burning. Itching blood every other week I even had a ct scan and was all clear ..

it’s more dark blood that’s from high up

quiltbear · 30/06/2024 13:49

I really hope it's not something bad
It's never happened before
The only thing that's making me feel better is when I'm actually passing the stool (sorry for tmi ) it actually feels sore
Which makes me think something is aggravating my bum to cause it

Safa2 · 30/06/2024 14:08

I can defo vouch and say it’s piles ! I have had so many scares like u iv had a sigmoid and a ct and all normal I brush it off now

CherryRipe1 · 30/06/2024 14:14

I've had piles for around 2 weeks now but had them for years on and off. No bleeding, just burning and itching nodules. Best advice is drink lots of water and up your fruit and vegetables intake, do NOT get constipated. Wash your butt after each bowel movement or sit in a warm bath if you can & dry gently. Sometimes cold water/ice can help. I've used Anusol with hydrocortisone (the pharmacist laughed because it's pronounced Anew-sol, not Anus-hole like I was saying)! You can use it for 7 days but take a break before continuing usage. If it doesn't clear up head to the GP, it could be a fissure too. Good luck and sympathy OP

quiltbear · 30/06/2024 15:18

When I last had a laparoscopy they found I had endometriosis
That was on my womb and pouch of Douglas
I'm half wondering if this could also cause the blood
I've just started my period today and a lot of forums are saying if I have bowel endo or pouch of Douglas endo it can cause rectal bleeding
The endo gives me horrible symptoms
I once had blood in urine too (which was endo )
The doctors aren't very sympathetic
If not piles or anal fissue
Would not be surprised if is the endo

quiltbear · 30/06/2024 15:22

The doctor dismisses everything I say
I had to push and push for laparoscopy as they were treating me for a uti every two weeks till the lap found it was endo causing the blood in urine
Does anyone here have bad endo ?

spikeandbuffy · 30/06/2024 15:46

I have severe endo with bowel symptoms

Previously had bleeding but it was a tiny tear. Was careful to wipe very gently and did a final wipe with some hydromol ointment on the paper which helps with soreness and itching
