Bleeding after orgasm

Itsacrazyworldisntit · 15/03/2023 13:30

Hi all,

Name change due to embarrassment. So CIN cells removed 3 years ago, clear follow up smear but bleeding during intercourse. Had it checked out after a year and silver nitrate was applied. This didn’t solve the issue and the bleeding continued just during sex.
However, the bleeding now happens after a non penetrative orgasm which has really started my anxiety off and I’m struggling to function.
I can’t get into the GP, so have had a private GP appointment for a referral today.

Anyone had any similar experiences?

Thanks in advance.

Yes got the same problem, basically blood in fluid after non penetrative orgasm. Not got a partner, had problem for about a year, too embarrassed to see dr. Not sure what to do. When you see private GP @Itsacrazyworldisntit please update this thread.

Itsacrazyworldisntit · 15/03/2023 15:24

Hi quickly, did you also have treatment for CIN?
I’ve spoken to the private GP who is doing a referral to the gynaecologist at the hospital for me.
In the meantime I have also have an appointment booked for for tomorrow to see a private gynaecologist.

No I've had one successful smear only, a few years ago. Trying again to have a smear at beginning of April by taking some Lorazepam first.
I take the progesterone only mini pill every day (Cerazette) and use Vagifem which is an oestrogen hrt that is a small tablet you insert.

I've been referred to Urology by a male gp as I have some issues passing urine but I didn't tell him about the bleeding was too embarrassing. Maybe I should see a female gp.

Quicklychangedit · 15/03/2023 17:03

I've managed to get an phone appointment with a female gp on April 17th

Itsacrazyworldisntit · 15/03/2023 19:49

That’s quite a wait. I only managed the private gp appointment today because my husband has the healthshield cash plan with his work. So not private insurance but covers gp appointments over the phone or virtually.
How do you feel in yourself, it’s really set my anxiety off.

I have had this and without wanting to worry you I did actually have cervical cancer. I’ve toured with wether to post this but you asked and honestly that’s what happened to me. It was treated by chemo and a hysterectomy sadly. I have previous treatment like yourself prior. Smear came back clear randomly but the colposcopy picked up the cancer which was high up in my cervix which is rarer I believe. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Hiouo · 15/03/2023 20:12

Quicklychangedit · 15/03/2023 20:39

@Hiouo
Sorry to hear you had cancer; was that your only symptom or did you have urinary issues do you mind me asking?

KvotheTheBloodless · 15/03/2023 20:42

Are you pre- or postmenopausal? If the former, chances are good that it'll be something relatively benign like a polyp or ectropion. If the latter, it requires urgent attention.

Quicklychangedit · 15/03/2023 20:44

@Itsacrazyworldisntit
I think what got me worried is my mums just been diagnosed with a very large ovarian cancer & awaiting major surgery, it's triggered my mental health problems & I've got a bit of health anxiety now too.

I've been worried about these symptoms for ages but until I saw your post I wasn't sure if I was being daft really, now I think I may ask for a same day appointment with a female gp maybe Friday as busy tomorrow.

Quicklychangedit · 15/03/2023 20:45

@KvotheTheBloodless myself, I'm not sure as age 46 and take the mini pill without a break. Probably peri.

Itsacrazyworldisntit · 15/03/2023 20:46

I have urinary issues but these have been ongoing prior to my cin cells - interstitial cystitis it’s called.

Hiouo - sorry to hear that and I hope you are doing well now?

Quickly - I will PM you.

Itsacrazyworldisntit · 15/03/2023 20:51

Kvo - I’m 44 but probably in peri.

OK, calm down.

Let's look at this logically.

You're forty four so peri may be a likely cause.
CIN has been treated and resolved.
Negative smear.
Presumably they looked at your cervix when applied the silver and saw nothing suspicious?
Most importantly - this is not being caused by something hitting your cervix if it is happening without penetration. It is being caused by the uterine contractions of orgasm.
So, logically this is likely your uterine lining which is being shed, most likely as hormonal shifts to do with peri.

Has your cycle changed at all?

I had this after sex recently. Normal ultrasound and colposcopy and I'm a few years younger than you. But still probably related to the hormonal shifts which occur as we age in to late thirties/forties.
Mine happens a few hours after sex so that points to it being uterine rather than cervical bleeding. Is yours similar?

I know its scary. I still freak out when it happens to me but please dont jump to the big cancer conclusion before seeing the GP and having any investigations.

Sending you a hug.

Catapulko · 15/03/2023 21:06

I had this, an ultrasound revealed a polyp in my uterus which they didn't think would be the cause, but the gynae advised removing the polyp anyway, because of the cancer risk. So that was done about 3? years ago, I've not had an issue since.

Catapulko · 15/03/2023 21:08

I'd better add that removing the polyp was a complete non issue, day surgery.

Itsacrazyworldisntit · 15/03/2023 21:13

Hot - what a lovely post.

I’m not sure to be honest, when the silver nitrate was applied it was due to contact bleeding. Consultant said my cervix looked great and had healed well but a small area bled on contact.

However, I have bleeding with penetration which I presumed was due to the nitrate not working.

My periods are now from 28 to 26 days and my last period was last week and finished after 3 days.

Since the CIN removal I’ve had the HPV vaccination and 2 home HPV tests so thought I’d covered all bases.

this week I’ve had a funeral, job interview and this and have nobody to talk to in real life so my anxiety has sky rocketed x

Following this thread as i have started bleeding after sex! Must book in with the Gp now.

Itsacrazyworldisntit · 15/03/2023 21:20

Catapulko - can I ask if you had bleeding with penetration and without?

OP posts:
HotSince82 · 15/03/2023 21:23

@Itsacrazyworldisntit so your cycle is shortening which is an indicator of hormonal changes related to peri.

If the bleeding was soon after your period then that is reassuring too as could well be left over uterine tissue which didn't make its way out during your period.

No active HPV is a good sign also.
And a consultant said your cervix looked great too. They know what they are looking for. Honestly Google some images of cervical cancer and a normal healthy cervix. The difference is night and day and these consultants see hundreds of cervixes.

I suffer from health anxiety so believe me I can sympathise with where your mind must be right now. I find just talking very logically to myself and setting out the facts of the situation and the most likely cause of the symptoms really helps me to stop jumping to the worst conclusion.

Another thing I have learned; only 3% of women with post coital bleeding are diagnosed with cervical cancer.
Given your history, previous follow ups and that fact you are prime peri age your chances of this being benign are ridiculously high.

I hope you are reassured by the GP.

You can always PM me if you start to spiral with anxious thoughts.

HotSince82 · 15/03/2023 21:26

Also please stop worrying about urinary issues.
If you had a tumour large enough to infiltrate your urinary system the consultant would have spotted it a mile off!
Anything this size would have taken years to grow. Your urinary issues are almost certainly unrelated.

Itsacrazyworldisntit · 15/03/2023 21:33

Hot - thanks so much it means a lot to be able to talk and get support. I work from home full time and don’t have any extended family so don’t have anyone to talk to.

OP posts:
HotSince82 · 15/03/2023 21:36

@Itsacrazyworldisntit yes, me too. Far too much time alone to think the worst!
I'm sure you'll be fine if that helps at all.
Good luck with your appointment and let us know how it goes x

Catapulko · 15/03/2023 22:34

Itsacrazyworldisntit · 15/03/2023 21:20

Catapulko - can I ask if you had bleeding with penetration and without?

Both. But only when I had an orgasm, I sort of have contractions when I orgasm and that seemed to trigger it (sorry, tmi!).
