Hello, yes, I've been taking it for about a year and a half now for tachycardia and high blood pressure. Haven't noticed any side effects and my heart rate and bp are now normal and steady.

baublingon · 06/01/2023 10:59

(As far as I understand it, 2.5 mg is a very low dose too)

MissD92 · 06/01/2023 11:03

Thank you! Every day I randomly get PVCS but my cardiologist said my heart is perfect. I want to take this medication in the hope it will help. 2.5mg to start then work my way up to what I’m comfortable with. Currently on propranolol but I think that’s what has caused my pvcs as I never had them before starting that. Just need to make the switch from one beta blocker to the other. 😬

I've been on it for many, many years.

What exactly are you worried about? Do you generally worry about side effects or is your worry due to concern stemming from concern about whatever condition you need the drug for?

2.5g is a low dosage, so I wouldn't worry personally. However just to note you, you might feel a bit dizzy initially when you first start taking it but that'll wear off. If the dosage is increased you'd feel the same, it's just your body adjusting to the drug.

MissD92 · 06/01/2023 11:28

I think I’m just scared of it making the premature ventricular contractions worse. I suffer health anxiety so that doesn’t help either.

AnImaginaryCat · 06/01/2023 12:32

I think that's fair enough and understandable. Difficult one though as you’ll probably know anxiety can also trigger irregular heartbeats. 😕

I can tell you that my experience being on Bisoprolol has been fine (higher dose too) and I'm heading towards two decades on it - which includes my pregnancies.

Only side effect I ever experienced was when I first started on it and when the dosage got increased - occasional dizziness which lasted a few weeks.

Well that and the fact I appear to have the heart rate of a professional athlete 😄.

MissD92 · 06/01/2023 13:37

Thank you for your reply!

I think I will try and take it tomorrow morning. So take my last propranolol tonight at bedtime like normal then start bisoprolol when I wake up.

I don’t always have a fast HR just the pvcs causing me a nuisance😳

Been on 5mg for a few years and no noticeable side effects! Am also on ACE inhibitors and blood thinners and feel fine.

MissD92 · 06/01/2023 15:44

Is anyone on them that has pvcs? If so do they calm them down or stop them?

Hello! Do you mind me asking how you’re getting on with the Bisoprolol? I’ve also been prescribed 2.5mg for PVCs but am a bit scared to take it too! Thanks.

MissD92 · 15/02/2023 23:48

@Glasgow2Benfleet Hi, I haven’t even managed to convince myself to take bisoprolol yet. Can I ask why you have been prescribed it please?

OP posts:
MissD92 · 15/02/2023 23:49

@Glasgow2Benfleet sorry, just re-read your comment and seen it’s for PVCS. Same as me! I’m so bad with taking new medication. I tell myself I will get every serious side effect going and that puts me off.

OP posts:
Glasgow2Benfleet · 16/02/2023 08:13

@MissD92 Yeah, I can totally understand that. I’ve been prescribed 2.5mg but they’re easy to split in half so I’ve decided to take 1.25mg for the first week (as suggested in the leaflet). Took the first one just now - I’ll let you know how I get on!

MissD92 · 16/02/2023 08:15

You’re braver than me! I’m on propranolol at the moment and truthfully my pvcs only started since being on them, but I can’t get off them for some reason. Does your pvcs scare you? X

OP posts:
Glasgow2Benfleet · 16/02/2023 09:24

I’ve had PVCs for years and been told they’re not dangerous but they do annoy me. Also had a couple of funny turns (woke in the night with a 170BPM heart rate once, and one episode of weird irregular heart rate) so I’m more worried about those. Had an echo and ECG which were fine but waiting for an exercise test and 24 hour ECG. Was a bit scared to take the bisoprolol, but also scared not to. 🤦‍♀️

Glasgow2Benfleet · 16/02/2023 09:38

One thing that’s reassured me is that some people take 20mg+ of bisoprolol so 2.5mg is a very low dose. I saw on another thread that a Dr described a 1.25mg dose as ‘homeopathic’, so I’m guessing it doesn’t do much. Maybe start on 1.25mg like I have?

MissD92 · 16/02/2023 12:49

I think I’m going to have to try it! Surely it can’t make me feel worse than I already do?! How are you feeling so far? The pvcs is the most scariest for me. And I have had normal heart tests so I know my heart is actually fine.

OP posts:
Glasgow2Benfleet · 16/02/2023 14:40

I took it about 7 hours ago (it’s meant to peak in bloodstream at about 2 hours) and I’ve felt totally normal - no side effects whatsoever. I’m still getting PVCs so if anything it’s probably either too low a dose or needs more time to work, but I’m just glad that it doesn’t seem to be negatively affecting me and hopefully I can double the dose in a week.

I’ve had PVCs for at least 10 years and they’re annoying but they really are nothing to worry about, although I know that’s easier said than done. X

MissD92 · 16/02/2023 17:34

So far so good then!! With your pvcs do you get any other symptoms? I get all sorts with mine. X

lopsees · 16/02/2023 18:26

Bisoprohol is a medication that is frequently prescribed for heart issues. Just take it as prescribed or contact your cardiologist and tell them you are not taking it!

MissD92 · 16/02/2023 21:15

@lopsees i know what it’s prescribed for 🫣 But unfortunately for me I have anxiety and worry over every little thing!! And have a fear of taking new medication 🙄

@Glasgow2Benfleet Hi, I haven’t even managed to convince myself to take bisoprolol yet. Can I ask why you have been prescribed it please?

I knew that would happen.
Why did you start the thread if you had no intention of taking them?

If your heart's normal you don't need them.

Elsiebear90 · 16/02/2023 21:43

I’m a cardiac physiologist, the bisoprolol won’t make your PVCs increase, it will reduce them. 2.5mg is a small dose so I wouldn’t expect any significant side effects, some people are sensitive to them though and feel very tired and dizzy, but you just stop taking them if that’s the case and your symptoms go away. They’re very safe and effective at reducing PVCs.

MissD92 · 16/02/2023 22:02

@TheShellBeach i had every intention in taking the tablet. As I said, I have a fear of starting new medication which you clearly don’t know how that makes people feel. If you don’t have anything nice to say remove yourself off my post 🙂

@Elsiebear90 Thankyou!! I currently take propranolol as iv said before, which I take multiple times a day. Will I be ok to take my last one tonight and start bisoprolol tomorrow morning? X
