Pain in right side

Retta1809 · 20/11/2022 21:20

Hi I've had a pain in my lower right side since last December. I've been back & forth to the doctors, had blood tests, stool sample checked and also an ultrasound. They can't find anything. They have now sent me to physio.
The pain is dull and annoying, it often feels like there's something in there, it's from beside my hip bone and often feel it further down and round into my back.
Anyone have any idea what this is?
I don't know if the docs are missing anything.
The pain doesn't stop me bending, stretching, lifting etc.

Hi Op I would actually be reassured that it is nothing sinister as it is going on so long. I have what sounds like similar pain. Started in one side and now in both.
I've had MRI, Ultrasound, seen Gynae, stools tested and eventually settled on it is my hip socket which is catching when I sit down.
My pain is worse when I am sitting (especially in car seat as it tilts backwards), or legs scrunched up on sofa.

I have similar. The discomfort used to be just when sitting for a long time. I started getting the occasional ripping type pain in my right hand side - enough to make me yelp but it's gone as soon as it's come. I can't make any movements that reliably replicate it or I would have gone to a physio. I've had miscellaneous other things and now regular bouts of fatigue, nausea and bloating. My ultrasound showed nothing, but a CT scan has just turned up some distention and irregular shape in the uterus so I now have a gynae referral.

Good luck with your CT scan, OP. Let us know how you get on. By the way, if you have to have contrast injected, it can make you feel as if you are wetting yourself. That happened to me. Thankfully I had been warned in advance. It's really odd.

Have they said what the distension in the uterus might be caused by? I also get the ripping pain- it makes me yelp too but then totally disappears. Happens really randomly. Hasn’t become more or less frequent, just totally random. But really takes my breath away when it happens and does feel just like a ripping pain. No bleeding though. I hope you get some answers soon

@Coolyule - no. It was just picked up on a CT scan taken for gastric rather than gynae issues. The pelvic ultrasound picked up nothing so I am kind of glad I have the gastric issues or I would never have had the CT. The ripping pains I have pointed me in the direction of ovarian cysts and the ultrasound did not actually find my ovaries, just their strings (I forget the proper name), so maybe there are cysts. I had been working on the assumption my ovaries are the problem so I was a bit surprised when the ultrasound came back apparently with nothing of concern. The ultrasound also said my endometrium was fine but the CT says it looks irregular, so I don't know what to think. I hope the consultant I see in a couple of weeks will have some theories. As in your case the ripping pains are random and over very fast, although I am getting nausea that seems to coincide to some degree. Will try to remember to come back and report.

@Retta1809 how are you?

Retta1809 · 10/01/2024 21:34

@anx12345 I had my ct scan with contrast yesterday so just have to wait to get the results in 2-3 weeks.
The pain has been ok this week but was quite uncomfortable last week. Who knows what's causing it.

@Retta1809 keep us updated have they give you any ideas what it might be?

Peaplant20 · 04/12/2024 04:05

@Retta1809 hope you are well, did you ever find out what this was?

Retta1809 · 04/12/2024 07:18

@peaplant20 my ct was clear which is great news. I still have pain in my rught side but it comes and goes.

@Retta1809 thanks for your reply! I have a pain which sounds similar, though I was describe it a bit like a stitch type pain. I’ve actually had it for about 6 years - I had an ultrasound on my ovary and x ray on my hip back then and they discovered a labral tear in my hip but it’s been feeling more intense this week and I’m really not convinced the pain is in my bone so I’m thinking about going back to the GP.

Hello. I had the exact same thing, lasted for months. I was convinced there was something suspicious going on with an ovary. However, after complaining about this pain for probably a year, my appendix burst. Turns out it was my appendix rumbling! I ended up with a fully perforated appendix and sepsis. Our bodies are mysterious things!! Hope you feel better soon x

DoreenCorkhill · 05/12/2024 20:08

Following this with interest as have had low pelvic right sided pain and backache for four months. Pelvic xray suggested facet joint issue so having lots of physio currently . Sometimes feel the pain is coming from my right ovary but ca125 was normal also seem to experience 'stretching ' and 'pulling; in pelvic area Interestingly on reading up on facet joint issues in lower back it can cause pelvic pain often wrongly diagnosed as a pelvic issue .

Did your pain get a lot worse before your appendix burst?

Deedoo · 10/12/2024 14:03

@BeUmberRaven omg this is what I'm scared of! What tests did you do

Deedoo · 10/12/2024 14:03

@Coolyule I am wondering too as all my pain is right sided

Deedoo · 10/12/2024 14:09

@BeUmberRaven what tests did you have done

bouncydog · 11/12/2024 01:13

Reading with interest as currently going through same and in process of tests. In 60’s and definitely have adhesions from earlier abdominal surgery - ruptured ectopic, twisted bowel, laparoscopies, abdominoplasty and emergency appendix removal so know its not the latter! Left ovary not seen on scan so think that one went with the ectopic with the fallopian tube. I spent a lot of years in a desk bound job so thinking that may have had something to do with it. CA125 last year was clear so my money is currently on the adhesions flaring up. DD had surgery in Harley Street for severed endometriosis which was done by robotics. Outcome was fantastic as she was pregnant within a few months so if they can’t find a cause locally may schedule an appointment with her surgeon. If anyone finds a solution then please post back as its very worrying.

Edited to add appendicitis quickly diagnosed with a blood test after a weekend of severe pain (refused to go to A&E because of weekend wait and didn’t want to sit with all the drunks/fight clean ups). Blood test taken Monday afternoon, appendix out within 24 hours and home after one night in hospital. Pain was pulsating.

Deedoo · 11/12/2024 04:55

@DoreenCorkhill does your pain go to the abdominal

bouncydog · 11/12/2024 20:59

Update; had blood tests today, then got a call asking for me to go for ultrasound today. Full ultrasound undertaken including internal. Results for all tests due by the end of the week. Will update.

Deedoo · 11/12/2024 21:33

@bouncydog keep us updated how is the pain

Deedoo · 11/12/2024 21:35

Mine is my spine did you have mri of spine

popsickle555 · 11/12/2024 21:59

Wow I have this but on my left side. It’s exactly as you’re describing. It flares up worse before ovulation and my period but is currently always there.

on bad days it’s almost feeling like a strained muscle (it’s not). On less bad days more of a heavy dull ache. I think it’s fibroid or endo related for me.

Deedoo · 12/12/2024 06:30

@@popsickle555 do you have cysts

bouncydog · 12/12/2024 08:34

@Deedoo it comes and goes. Mostly a dull ache. Had a full MRI last year as have issues with my spine T4/T5 and also have a slight scoliosis. Should have all my results tomorrow as they are very quick here.
