They won’t postpone. The heavy bleeding is the issue they’re sorting! They’ve seen it all don’t worry!

Kimmismth · 03/06/2022 07:14

Thank god for that
it’s like Mother Nature is giving me her very last shot

Antarcticant · 03/06/2022 16:11

My last ever period was the week before my operation. My sister wrote me a poem to celebrate - all about shedding a burden!

Just to let you know once you're back online, I thought of you today. I hope everything went well and that by the time you read this you are recovering well. Flowers

Littlemissprosecco · 06/06/2022 19:09

Hugs to you

Newestname002 · 06/06/2022 19:35

Hope all went well, @Kimmismth.

Just to add to the others - I had my hysterectomy in my mid thirties (I begged the lovely consultant!). Both ovaries were left but I lost one Fallopian tube. It really was the best thing to happen to me at the time - my life had been absolutely miserable with all the problems I'd been having.

Wishing you a happier, healthier future. 🌹

I stayed in 2 nights after mine. Had an epidural and a lighter general which worked well for me.

Antarcticant · 07/06/2022 11:03

Great to hear from you! Really good news that you were able to keep your ovaries - you won't need to worry about HRT now.

The pain for me was at its worst the 24 hours after the operation, and then it started to ease off to a stage where it only hurt when I moved about.

Make sure you ask for more pain relief if you need it.

You're going to sleep a lot at first, which is good because your body will be able to focus itself on healing.

I found suppository pain relief seemed to work more quickly than oral pain relief, although it was somewhat embarrassing having to have the nurse administer it, but worth it because it got going straight away.

So pleased you are now through the operation safely Flowers

Igmum · 07/06/2022 12:48

So good to hear from you. Rest and recover Flowers

I had a partial hysterectomy 5 years ago. They manage to leave the ovaries/cervix. Like you I needed abdominal surgery as I had adhesions (endometriosis and adenomyosis) and a huge ball of tissue growing at the top of the uterus due to the adeno the size of a tennis ball...

Best thing I have done I must say after decades of horrendous bleeding and painful periods. It gave me my life back and I did not need HRT as the ovaries were still there. I have had no complications (touch wood).

I did have to take quite a bit of time of work though to recover from the surgery although there was little pain after the first day. I went home with staples and a huge scar after 3 days in hospital and it took about 3 weeks until I could realistically do things for myself and I certainly was not ready to do any work until at least a month after if not more. So be gentle with yourself and give yourself time to heal.

Don't worry too much about the anesthetic. They had to do a spinal one for me as there were medical issues and this was deemed safer than going completely under. I would not recommend it unless you have a calm disposition. They also give you something to relax as well as the spinal so you are sort of half asleep but still aware that things are happening...

So enjoy just gently going to sleep and waking up when it is all over!

SophiaLarsen · 07/06/2022 17:00

Ref the HRT thing, you may still need it so don't write it off. For a start you're heading into the perimenopause phase that starts 10 years on average before menopause which is in the UK at 51 on average. Secondly there is evidence that the uterus can also impact hormone levels so without it you may need to address the deficiency with HRT. Also, HRT is not the devil's drug so don't think of it as something to necessarily avoid at all costs. There are some great podcasts available to listen to about this.

Cloudyout · 07/06/2022 19:56

So glad you’re out. I’ve been thinking of you!
happy recovery. Take things slowly. Your brain will think you can do it when you can’t…yet!

Just take your time. You’ll feel like you have to do stuff at home, enjoy being the patient for as long as you can! . Glad things are going well.

Newestname002 · 08/06/2022 16:00

Don't rush back if you have the option of a few more days in hospital @Kimmismth.

Once home you/people will assume you are capable of doing more than you can or should. I was lucky, when I had my hysterectomy, to stay in a nursing home for a while where I was looked after, had post-op treatment but, mainly, rested a lot, without feeling I needed to hurry up and get back to day to day living. Take care of you. 🌹

Kimmismth · 08/06/2022 16:27

Thankyou

I had the same bowel problem! In the end a friend brought me in some prunes which helped a lot. The whole dried fruit (soft Agen prunes are best - and delicious) are better than the tinned stuff or prune juice. Also I think three of them count as one of your five a day!

Advice may have changed so check with your doctor first. 🌹

Kimmismth · 10/06/2022 15:52
