DD 16 just diagnosed with genital herpes

DD is 16, in her first relationship with her boyfriend has just been diagnosed with genital herpes. She is feeling completely distraught and hopeless and worrying about the stigma and consequences for the rest of her life. (She is his first sexual partner too so I'm assuming he had a cold sore which he didn't realise.)

Can anyone provide any insight/experience about this and how it has affected them. I'm so worried about her. Can anyone offer any reassurance or hope? Thank you

I got it at 21 from a bf and it was horrible. But I’ve never had another attack. I’m 55 now.

I had my first outbreak in my fifties now I only get an outbreak if I eat nuts. GH is not a sexually transmitted disease. I was utterly distraught been married for years my GP said it just happens sometimes especially during menopause so don't be too quick to blame the boyfriend. My first outbreak was so painfully I couldn't walk fir 2 days and had to take a week off work. I only realised it was nuts triggering it from a FB support group.
