Hi all,

I am in hospital awaiting hysteroscopy and endometrial ablation, novasure. Feeling a bit nervous now. Appointment time just creeped up and I already feel so knackered from the hectic week before.

Just asking for a bit good vibes and thoughts cuz I have heard ablation can go both ways. Hope I end up with zero periods.

And thanking you for all the support and help I got here leading up to this.

Wish me luck!!!!!

Good luck! I hope it goes well for you.

Aloneonprecipice · 16/07/2021 09:54

Thanks all. I hate hospitals. And I haven't told my family as they are in another country far away and I didnt want to worry them.

So no one to talk to. I have already done my husbands head in with this. Guess he was relieved to drop me at hospital this morning.

Good luck. I'm pushing for an ablation at the moment so am slightly envious.

You'll be fine and I'm sure it will work for you.

Aloneonprecipice · 16/07/2021 10:14

@Twizbe
Aww thanks. And hoping u get it soon as well. I was supposed to be sterilised at the same time but because of some technical and financial issues, I am not. So I am disappointed in that way. But anything for these murderous periods to stop and get my iron levels up.

My mum had it done in her late 40s and said it was the best thing she ever did.

I'm really having to push the GP though as they just want to keep giving me hormones.

It will be worth it I'm sure

Cocolapew · 16/07/2021 10:31

Good luck! Flowers

Aloneonprecipice · 16/07/2021 10:41

@Twizbe
Keep pushing. I am 40 and my youngest is 8 yrs and I have been on conveyer belt of trying different hormones. Only when I got to big 4 0 and they said ok to ablation. And now they are being all stupid about Sterilisation.

@Cocolapew
Thanks. I think I have read a few of ur posts in my 'research' about laparoscopy and endometriosis.

TheAwfuITruth · 16/07/2021 10:41

Good luck.

I had an ablation about 8 years ago now, and it was life changing. From being totally debilitated for 7 - 10 days a month, to absolutely period free

Hope it does as well for you Smile

Twizbe · 16/07/2021 10:43

That's good to hear. I'm 37 and youngest is 2. I need to get these periods sorted before I return to work. I can't work with this level of bleeding

Cocolapew · 16/07/2021 10:52

Oops they weren't always positive Blush
Hope it works out well for you Smile

Aloneonprecipice · 16/07/2021 13:36

Just feeling some bad, not really bad, cramps.... Well that's good, otherwise I would have thought I am just waking up from some deep sleep.

JustHavinABreak · 16/07/2021 13:40

Well done OP! I had ablation two years ago and life has change utterly. Only wish I'd had it done sooner.

Aloneonprecipice · 16/07/2021 13:44

@JustHavinABreak
Thanks, can I ask what u doing for contraception. Sorry for being nosy. But condoms for 6 ,7+ years is a bit heartbreaking. Cant take hormones. My consultant is pretty pretty I can't get pregnant cuz he thinks he did a pretty good job....

I had ablation and sterilisation a couple months ago, so far it isn’t working for me, although I know it’s still early days, I was unwell for a month, had several infections and had to go back to hospital, I’m still bleeding non stop and have just asked to go back on the pill in hope it settles things down. I’m still hoping things will change and I won’t end up needing a hysterectomy.

I got my tubes clipped as I didn’t want to go back on the pill ☹️

Aloneonprecipice · 16/07/2021 19:14

@Lovemusic33
Oh I am so sorry to hear about your horrible experience. I hope u feel well soon. I understand your frustration as I am have been dreaming about days when I can be hormone free and not have a copper coil up there. When they told me I can't be sterilised I cried.

Let's see. My doc said if I don't have any period then consider myself sterilised for at least a year, otherwise use condoms for a while and we will assess the situation again.

It's just been a few hours but I have mild cramps and just very slight bloody yellowish discharge. What's to follow, who knows?

All the best, OP Flowers. I sincerely hope you have a good outcome. I had an ablation 10 years or so ago and it has been the best thing ever. Completely changed my life.

blissfulllife · 16/07/2021 19:47

I literally wanted to kiss the doctor who did my ablation. Best thing I ever did. 6 years on and still only having a slight spotting for one day a month. No cramps. Wonderful. You take it easy I found the worst of the post ablation cramps came the following day but nothing painkillers didn't ease

whatnow90 · 16/07/2021 20:00

I had ablation in January. Got a post op infection and felt rotten for a few weeks, bled for about 4 weeks then stopped. No bleeding since and my iron levels have improved. I've been having iron infusions at the hospital for 8 yrs and now it's all balanced out they are talking of discharging me!! I also had to wait to hit the big 40 before they'd agree to ablation, even though I needed IVF to have my one and only child, and giving birth left me physically disabled.

No contraception for me at least, but I do still get very painful 'periods' just without the blood. Ffs.

Twinkie01 · 16/07/2021 20:02

I was told that we'd need to use contraception even after my ablation (4 years ago, did spin class the next day, no horrid effects) as although the uterus will now not be suitable for implantation it could still happen. DH had a vasectomy.

I'm glad you're feeling ok. The consultant who did mine said they should be offered to all women once they've decided they don't want anymore children but it still seems that women have to soldier on with pain and heavy periods!!

Aloneonprecipice · 16/07/2021 22:58

Wow thanks all.

I am feeling abnormally chipper and very fine for a woman who had GA a few hours ago. It's all because after 25 years I am not on hormones or pregnant or had a foreign body in me. I feel like my body is detoxing or something. And have minimal pain.

@Twinkie01
Everything I read suggested I use contraception but my surgeon I very clear that if no period u can't get pregnant or suddenly get implanted the next cycle as endometrium takes a few cycles to recover and then can implant. So keep an eye and use natural family planning and u r set.

At the moment all I want is to sort my iron and b12 and get my life back, hopefully.

How do you feel today?

My post menopause colleague found it life changing in a good way.

Aloneonprecipice · 17/07/2021 22:14

@Fluffycloudland77
I am feeling pretty good. Just a few twinges here and there.
It's odd but I have had just a slight pink spotting and very little discharge. I was told I might have heavy discharge.
Maybe it will start in a few days. Don't want to jinx it.
