Hi all,
Little bit of background
Had dreadful IbS on-off for years and usually medicate with mebeverine

Had a very bad flare up about a week ago to the point where I was wearing maternity trousers my stomach was so swollen (and I still am nothing else is comfortable) and in absolute agony and my only comfortable place was sat in a very warm bath and then in bed with a hot water bottle however I've been up all night and I'm in so much pain I don't know what to do with myself.

I'm preety sure it's stress related there's a lot going on but I'm really struggling

Should I phone 111 - would they do anything do you think?

Yes, call 111. Flowers

KEG05 · 30/04/2021 03:46

I think if your pains that bad then you should definitely call 111 just incase something else is going on and the ibs is masking it. X

markingplace · 30/04/2021 03:47

Hi OMG, you poor dote, I don't have any advice for you except I think you should definitely call, it's obvious that you are in a lot of pain and that isn't normal. I'll be awake for a little longer so will be here for a handhold.

ScottishStardust · 30/04/2021 03:53

You could call 111, but usually there is a triage time frame do like 4 hours. However if you are in that much pain I'd suggest calling.

Alternatively, depending on the pain, you could wait until your GP Surgery opens around 8.30/9 and attempt to get a same day appointment? Mine surgery allows for 'e-consult' paperwork online and usually the doctors call you first thing and triage you for an appointment / medication etc.

indiakulfi · 30/04/2021 04:16

I'd call 111 in case it was something like the appendix or gall bladder

Jobsharenightmare · 30/04/2021 04:20

Sorry OP that sounds awful.

I'd call 111 now for advice about what pain relief you can take to settle this flare up.

whiteroseredrose · 30/04/2021 04:21

If you are in that much pain then definitely call 111. It's what it's there for.

olympicsrock · 30/04/2021 05:07

Hello - I am a doctor. If you have severe pain you need a face to face assessment , with observations, blood tests , etc. You should go to the Emergency Department. Severe pain is a true emergency.
IBS occasionally turns out to be something more such as recurrent pain with adhesions and subacute vowel obstruction.

olympicsrock · 30/04/2021 05:08

Don’t bother with 111. They will just tell you that you need to go to A and E

faithfulbird20 · 30/04/2021 05:10

Please go to a and e. Honestly feel for you. Hope it gets easier and better soon

AbjectHorror · 30/04/2021 05:27

Go to A&E please OP.

Also, I'm sure it's not relevant, but please make sure you have a CA125 test at some stage. I really don't want to scare you by saying that, just think it's important for all women with bloating and abdominal problems to have it checked out just from personal experience.

Hope you feel better soon

omgthepain · 30/04/2021 05:35

Thanks everyone
I rang 111 and they sent an ambulance for me - I have been seen by a nurse and so just waiting to be seen by the doctor now bit apparently I have low blood pressure and they will do bloods, urine, and an ultrasound
They've given me some strong painkillers which aren't working either but hoping they can identify what it is soon - don't think it helps that I am exhausted 😩 I've been up all night

Glad you are getting medical attention Flowers

itsgettingwierd · 30/04/2021 05:44

You need to tell them if the pain killers aren't working.

Hope they manage to get to the bottom of it and sort it soon Thanks

Jobsharenightmare · 30/04/2021 08:41

Good get well soon OP you'll be okay

markingplace · 30/04/2021 19:53

Hi OMG, just checking in to see how you are doing! I hope you got the pain managed and you have got to the root of the problem. Smile

Tambourina · 30/04/2021 19:54

TheVolturi · 30/04/2021 20:01

Alfiemoon1 · 30/04/2021 22:12

omgthepain · 01/05/2021 00:20

Hi everyone - not sure if anyone is online again
The same has happend tonight

Yesterday they did an ultrasound showing nothing sinister, bloods for literally everything under the planet and then a urine test and apart from what seemed like trapped gas they couldn't find a lot wrong with me

However I have spent yesterday resting and went to bed nice and early but again woken up in absolute agony again so tried the bath, hot water bottle, paracetamol and buscapan and I'm on mebeverine daily anyway - along with omazerapole

I've come downstream so I don't disturb my partner and the kids but I'm literally crying in pain I don't know what to do

If I phone 111 anything they'd suggest they've already done I literally don't know what to do

Any help or advice gratefully received

Were you admitted by the surgical team? If the pain has recurred then you phonethe ward you left and tell them. They may suggest you return. If not you go to ED who will send you back to the team as a failed discharge. They will have to continue investigating. Perhaps a Ct scan

olympicsrock · 01/05/2021 00:33

At the very least you can have stronger pain killers such as morphine if needed
