Period and getting older

Cookiesandscones · 23/11/2020 21:31

Just a bit of a random one really

I am noticing as I am getting older my periods are making me feel worse and worse each month. It always starts about a week before my anxiety goes through the roof and I just feel sluggish then when it hits I feel dreadful for a couple of days like today it has floored me, I loose my appetite and I just want to lie in a dark room and not do anything all day. I never used to be like this I used to just get on with it but I am finding it harder and harder

Anyone else have this problem or is it just me being a wimp the older I get 😁😁

Me too. I'm 48, how old are you? I have about a week of being ill. They're still happening with regularity....

LilyLongJohn · 23/11/2020 21:34

Me too... I'm in my late 40s and I'm in bits for a week a month. Migraines and I'm really really heavy, sometimes I daren't go out the house In case I have an accident (sorry tmi), feel sick and I get really anxious...

I never really used to have issues, just mild cramps

CordeliaCroft · 23/11/2020 21:36

Me too. I am 48 and it’s like having the mini-flu for a weekSad

KodakNancyEurope · 23/11/2020 21:37

Yes to this too but I’m 38 and it’s been worse month on month since I had my baby 18months ago.

Cookiesandscones · 23/11/2020 21:39

I am 37 its been the last 2 months that it has really wiped me out I thought last month was a one off but its happened again this month, I was convinced I had covid last month because I felt so bad but I brightened up once it buggered off this month the cramp is really bad and I have just struggled with doing normal things like getting up and going to the toilet.

I have always had heavy flow especially on a night time I have to sleep with a tampon, pad and a towel on the bed (tmi I know)

Please get your iron levels checked. And B12. I was anaemia for years without realising.

Also consider asking for tranexemic acid to reduce the heaviness of your periods.

Cookiesandscones · 23/11/2020 21:44

@rhymeswithorange it's funny you should mention that it crossed my mind today about being anemic considering I was so breathless even standing up and walking into the kitchen but having anxiety surrounding my health I tend to shrug things off because I find GPS do this with me alot because they think it's my anxiety playing up

Mine too, I'm 45, terrible periods, PMT, horrific back pain, I've gone back on the pill, had no periods for three months now and I feel So much better.

SadSecretSanta · 23/11/2020 21:50

Mine have got worse in the past couple of years - I’m 42. The symptoms around it have got worse too, like backache.

Bluntness100 · 23/11/2020 21:51

I’d get your blood checks, at 37 I think it’s likely to be iron levels or something, just make a docs appt for when you can get one.

Don’t get me wrong, they are a fucker when you get older, but hopefully you’ve a few years before you need to go through it.

Cookiesandscones · 23/11/2020 21:52

This sounds awful but I am glad in a way I am not alone in feeling this way I started to think I was making it all up in my head

I think I will talk to a gp and see what they can do for me not sure I can go on feeling this way until I hit menopause considering my next monthlys are going to hit around Xmas day next time

Fucking carnage here

PolarnOPirate · 23/11/2020 21:54

Yes, I’m only 30 but have noticed them getting much worse the last couple of years. Have got myself a GP appt for next week for PMDD.

PolarnOPirate · 23/11/2020 21:56

To add, it’s definitely a thing. I remember reading an article a few years ago about how some women schedule their work etc around their cycle. Think it was something to do with a flexible working campaign. I get wiped out for a week (anxiety, panic etc), a week building myself back up again, 2 weeks with my normal levels of anxiety, and then it starts all over again.

Nikki360 · 23/11/2020 21:58

I'm 44 nearly 45 and for over a year now my periods are definitely heavier now. Had I think what's called flooding ? Once when thankfully we were leaving a friends house to go home. Much more clots etc as well it's not much fun 😕

Cookiesandscones · 23/11/2020 21:58

@polarnopirate Can I ask what PMDD is I might be being stupid here so I apologise

Cookiesandscones · 23/11/2020 22:00

The heavy flow I can deal with because I have been like that since I started my period at 14 so its routine for me now but its the general feeling like a pp said of it being like mini flu

No that’s ok! I’ve only just heard of it recently myself too. Pre Menstural Dysphoric Disorder

45 here and mine have got worse. I have one every 3 weeks and feel awful in the lead up. I also get a very upset stomach which is exhausting.

Cookiesandscones · 23/11/2020 22:11

I feel awful in the lead up and then the last 2 months I have felt worse when it hits, I normally feel awful in the lead up then when it comes I feel good again. I also get a upset stomach and loose my appetite

I am lucky, getting much easier as I get older. Emotionally & physically challenging when I was young, though.

RhymesWithOrange · 23/11/2020 22:15

Google anaemia symptoms, I would not be surprised if you were anaemic.

Cookiesandscones · 23/11/2020 22:18

I could probably tick most of those boxes regarding anemia, I am generally pale skinned tho so I would be cheating if I ticked that box because that's just me, headache, dizziness, short of breath l, cold feet but not cold hands I could go on I will try make an appointment with a gp
