Silly lump.

Adding to my constant anxiety, I’ve just found a tiny lump at the top of my breast this morning. Sat in the doctors waiting to be seen. Not sure I can take much else. I’ve never checked my breasts properly and I’m so scared. I have a 9 month old little boy at home and I’m only 34. Sat here shaking.

Good on you for getting yourself straight to the doctor. You're very young and have a little baby, most likely it's a swollen milk duct or something. I would say try not to worry but anxiety is the pits, I know. Handhold from me Flowers

8 out of 10 lumps are harmless. I've just had one checked - was referred on the 2 week scheme and was told it's normal pregnancy/lactational changes to breast tissue. Please don't worry too much. Your GP should be able to offer some insight and may refer you. Let us know how you get on.

I think it’s too high to be anything to do with milk ducts, it’s at the top nearly under my armpit 😞

What time is your appointment? Don't panic and don't Google! The GPs have to follow a certain criteria so if they refer you don't worry - I think it's something like over 30 with a lump, they get it checked within 2 weeks. I was seen and given the all clear within 6 days.

She’s sending me to the breast clinic, I’m absolutely shitting myself. I feel sick and sweaty. X

I felt the same way when I got referred to the breast clinic. They can usually give you the results on the same day which is good. The chances are it is nothing to worry about but they do check all lumps just to be on the safe side - after all the GP is limited in what they can do in a Dr surgery. Fingers crossed for you and let us know how it goes. In the meantime stay off Dr Google! Most breast lumps are nothing to worry about - statistics show 8 out of 10 are harmless.

Do you have some RL support OP?
When is the appointment with the breast clinic?
I have no advice but you’ve done all you can. Did the GP give you any advice or suppport?

Can you afford to go private OP? It’s expensive (cost me £450) but I got an appointment the next day and it was worth the cost for the relief I felt when they told me everything was okay.

I have support but I’m quite a private person, I don’t want to upset any of my family. I have told them but I don’t want to go on about it, I know they can’t do anything. I don’t have my appointment yet, she just said within two weeks, she didn’t really say anything at all, that’s what is making me worry, all she said was try not to worry... brilliant x

Unfortunately no I wouldn’t be able to afford to go private, it’s a good idea though the waiting is awful and it’s been a day that’s all x

I had a lump in what sounds like a v similar position (I've had other lumps too). I found it in shower when soaping up. On this occasion I had a young baby and was breastfeeding so thought it was prob related to that. I was going to give it a few days and go to GP after that. It disappeared after a few days. Hope yours does too.

Lumps can happen after pregnancy and the majority are nothing to worry about. When I mentioned mine at work to two colleagues both had experienced similar issues. We were all referred to the breast clinic as standard so please try not to worry. I think most GPs just refer you to be 100% sure rather than because they are concerned.

I’ve read everywhere that cysts and other things are movable, this doesn’t seem to be. That’s why I’m so worried. It doesn’t seem to move at all, it’s just like s little ball bearing.

I don’t know about how different types of lumps are meant to feel but I do know that if you are googling it you’re going to make yourself feel so

You’re going to make yourself feel so much worse. Please don’t google it as I know from experience it doesn’t help.

You’re scared right now but keep in mind that referrals are common and standard in most practices. A referral does not mean the worst. If you are very frightened it might be worth calling the GP tomorrow for a chat to see if he/she can offer any reassurance or information.

Not sure where you're based but in Belfast we have a breast screening clinic run by a charity (can't remember which one I'm afraid). They see you within 24-48 hours of you contacting them. They have potentially saved 2 of my friends lives by seeing them so quickly. See if you can google breast screening and charities?

Thank you, I live in Leeds I’ll have a look for something like that. I’m terrible for googling, I think it’s because the dr was so stony faced, I can usually read people quite well but I got nothing at all X
