Hurrah and Hallelujah. My uterus has been given an eviction notice!

30 years of being a complete bitch. Let me down twice (miscarriage and ectopic). Did what it should do twice (2 grown up DDs). Never officially diagnosed with anything but suggestions have been PCOS and endometriosis. 30 solid years of hideous periods. 30 years of being fobbed off by assorted GPs who told me it was normal to faint, vomit, incapacitate and take over my life for one out of every three or four weeks.
It’s got to the point where my cycles are just 18-20 days long, I bleed huge amounts for 5 days (emptying cup every 2 hours), overflowing, clots. Light bleeding on and off for a further 4 days. Bleeding on and off randomly mid-cycle. Puking and dizzy. Period diarrhoea, excruciating, labour style pain. Another 3 days of pain while i ovulate plus bleeding then too.
Tried everything. Mirena - I bled for 8 months then it fell out. Painfully. Pill - unhinged. Drugs - I’m allergic to the good ones and the others don’t work so well. Herbs, flowers, tea, homeopathy, diet - all bollox.

Finally saw a Dr who actually listened and agreed to whip the bugger out. Not sure how yet as apparently it's ‘bulky’ (like the rest of me) so need a scan to see how big it is. Also waiting on smear results and endometrial biopsy (which hurt like a bastard and is still hurting 4 days later).

Stripes i was panicky too but actually it isnt too bad. I mean its a major operation but your well looked after and pain relief is good Grin
Ive had a cough since i came round. Just the occasional lung busting dry cough. Can be a side effect of being put to sleep. Im not gonna lie still in an awful lot of pain and pretty sleepy but hoping to have perked up a bit by the weekend. The gas pain is the worst bit. Still have it prettu bad. Its crippling me.

PostNotInHaste · 28/02/2019 15:01

I know it’s scary but when it’s done it’s done and no more hanging over you Stripes with the whole summer ahead if you. Ouch Iamacliche, bet that hurt.

Not taken Zoladex, so don’t know, sorry.

Saw Registrar today who was lovely . My increased bleeding and pain is not my fibroid. The embolisation was a success and it has shrunk by 50%. This means if do have hysterectomy I could now have keyhole os good news. She wants. MRI didn’t show ovaries so she wants ultrasound to check them as thinks potentially a cyst there could cause bleeding and pain and I did have a small one in previous ultrasound.

So if cyst causing proble, then cystoscopy. If not then is going to suggest trial of low progesterone Cream I think she said , I don’t have to say yes to that. If all else fails hysterectomy. They’re booking me in to be seen again in 3 weeks and hopefully will have had scan by then. Felt she isn’t going to just leave me feeling shit which is good.

Macaroonmayhem · 28/02/2019 17:41

Stripes - that’s good news. I went to a different hospital than my local to get it done and I’m glad because it’s over and done now. It’s completely normal to feel scared but it will all be worth it, I feel brilliant now. I had no idea how much that damn fibroid was impacting on my day to day until it was gone.

Imacliche · 28/02/2019 18:22

Macaroon i hear you on that. Unbelievably the pain im in now is still an improvement on the pain i was having before i had it all taken out.

AutumnCrow · 28/02/2019 18:28

Stripes apparently it could be some scarring between bladder / rectum, or the old favourite, cancer (unlikely). So in I go, quite soon, for MRI etc.

SteveBrule · 28/02/2019 19:18

TAH (total abdominal hysterectomy and kept both ovaries) 14 years ago due to flooding. Best thing I ever had done!
Menopause didn't kick in naturally for at least 5 years after as I kept my ovaries.
Full 12 weeks off of work with graduated return and I don't do a manual job.
The only gripe is that I have never regained full feeling at the scar site but assume that this is normal.
Good luck and don't lift anything at all after surgery for many weeks!

Imacliche · 28/02/2019 19:42

Quick question how long did you all continue to get the shoulder/ chest pain. I came out of theatre Monday dinner time. Still really bad one sided chest pain and pain in shoulder tips. Feel shortish of breath too. Been doing the deep breathing techniques the physio suggested. Just wanting to get other peoples stories before i panic and ring the dr .

AutumnCrow · 28/02/2019 19:46

Imacliche if you're short of breath, phone for medical advice now. Stress operation + shortness of breath.

I had gas-related pain for a few days, but it was more abdominal.

PostNotInHaste · 28/02/2019 19:48

Agree with Autumncrow

AutumnCrow · 28/02/2019 19:55

@Imacliche please do get seen by a doctor asap. In terms of risk of blood clots, post-op people are higher. Shortness of breath could indicate a blood clot in your lung. (ie a PE = pulmonary embolism.)

I've had one. I was treated very well and needed additional medication for a while.

It's probably just the gas, but best to be sure.

Imacliche · 28/02/2019 20:19

Thanks ladies.ill ring drs in the morning and hopefully get sorted. Ive been wearing the stockings and im.still on the clexane shots at home so clot seems unlikely. Ive had pneumonia in the same side twice so possibly its a lung inflating properly issue. Really appreaciate the help x

AutumnCrow · 28/02/2019 20:21

Promise that if you feel any worse you'll call an ambulance, right?

Imacliche · 28/02/2019 20:27

Absolutley. Dp is downstairs sleeping on the sofa with me. Has been since i came out of hospital as i cant lay flat. He has his beady eye on me. Thanks for the concern. Ive had the pain since i came round. So hoping its something or nothing.

Bringbackthestripes · 28/02/2019 21:13

Iamacliche hope it all eases soon and it’s nothing serious. I did have horrible left rib and shoulder pain for around 4 days after a laparoscopy the other year, I couldn’t believe how the gas travelled. I don’t recall being short of breath though so definately speak to someone. Hopefully it isn’t anything to worry about, let us know what the drs say.

Autumn if it is scarring would there be something they could do to resolve it? Fingers crossed they are right about the cancer being unlikely, I guess they always have to mention the possibility.

Post glad the fibroid has shrunk so much. Hope you have the scan soon so when you see them again they have all the info they need.

Steve I plan to lift nothing more than a cuppa after it’s done!

AutumnCrow · 28/02/2019 21:17

stripes yes I could have a surgical tweak for scarring possibly, if it doesn't settle in time.

theworldistoosmall · 28/02/2019 21:58

I was given my date today for everything to be removed via keyhole. 9 weeks to go. Diagnosed with adenomyosis in December. Scans in January and last week showed it's worsening.
Was seen again today, swelling is the equivalent to being 5 months pregnant lol. Cannot wait to get rid of the bump.
Had my first injection to induce menopause today, the second dose in a month. Doing 2 instead of one dose as they aren't sure how my body will react considering the meds they have me on aren't working.
Looking forward to replacing the cocktails of meds for night sweats!! And having sex, been bleeding since the beginning of December.

PostNotInHaste · 01/03/2019 11:22

How are you this morning Iamacliche?

Bringbackthestripes · 01/03/2019 12:44

theworld congrats on getting your date.

Iamacliche have you spoken to Dr? How do you feel today?

Imacliche · 01/03/2019 16:06

Im actually better thanks. Chest pain seems to be dying down after lots of peppermint tea and rest. So im assuming its the gas which is crazy. Done some deep breathing techiniques today aswel and seem to be able to breathe a bit better.

PostNotInHaste · 01/03/2019 17:34

That’s really positive, glad you’re feeling better.

Macaroonmayhem · 01/03/2019 17:39

theworld I had a 5/6 month ‘bump’ thanks to my fibroid and not only do I feel brilliant now I don’t have it, I tried in some clothes today (have been living in joggers or leggings since my op) and they all fit nicely again, or some are even too big. It’s great!

imacliche glad you are improving, trapped wind can be brutal.

theworldistoosmall · 01/03/2019 18:26

Macaroonmayhem Oh that's good to know, thanks.

Bringbackthestripes · 01/03/2019 18:40

Iamacliche glad it’s easing and you are feeling better today.

Macaroon sounds like you need a shopping trip Wink glad you are feeling so well.

Can I ask those that had lap/vag assisted, how long were you given a sick note for?And for those that had ovaries removed how have you found HRT?
Thanks.
