I read The Lost Bookshop and really didn't like it. But, I did finish it, so can't have been that bad! Won't say what I thought was wrong with it as don't want to accidentally give away any spoilers

Just abandoned a Jo Nesbo. Read one previously and didn't like it very much and this one has decided me. I just don't like his writing.
Just started The English Assasin by Daniel Silva and I'm enjoying it very much so far.
We just returned from Florida and stayed near Pompano Beach, which features in one of my all time favourite books, World Class by Jane and Burt Boyar and so I'm going to re-read that next.

I haven’t read book for ages! Started again this week, had forgotten how much I enjoy it.

Life is hard, I like an easy fun read! Currently reading Satsuma Complex by Bob Mortimer (he’s so funny), and enjoying it.

looking for other suggestions of fun easy books please

@Adatewithmyself

Actually, it was chosen for me by a book subscription service and not to my taste at all! Sorry!

I didn't enjoy the Lost Bookshop either.

I'm not sure what post you were replying to, but I get the gist.
This is our next book club read. The current one is Us by David Nicholls which I am not reading because I recently watched it on Netflix (before I watched One Day).

Anyway, I am not drawn to anything that has 'casts its spell' in the blurb. It's not a genre I enjoy at all. I know that book clubs are meant to encourage you to read books you wouldn't normally choose, and usually I do, but I'm skipping this one.

MferMonsterSearchingForRedemption · 03/07/2024 21:27

I'm another one who was underwhelmed by Lost Bookshop.

I'm deep into Tudor country after seeing "Six the Musical". I've read Philippa Gregory's Kateryn Parr - the last Queen - and am working my way through Alison Weir's "Tudor Queens". They're long and detailed but well-researched and engaging especially "Anne Boleyn: the King's Obsession ".

Loving them

lifesrichpageant · 08/07/2024 06:20

Just finished Salman Rushdie's "Knife" which I found poignant and very readable. Before that - "Prophet Song". Wow.

Next up is "The Guest" by Emma Cline

ACatCalledPuss · 10/07/2024 10:14

Just finished Killing Moon, Jo Nesbo
Currently reading Exiles, Jane Harper
Next read will be The Queen of Dirt Island, Donal Ryan

I have just finished Midnight Sun by Stephanie Mayer. I've read it countless times and I just adore it.

I actually read it in place of twilight and then go on to read the other 3.

I really enjoyed River Kings, found it incredibly informative, especially when it gets to talking about how Putin has built his Russian creation myths. Will definitely be reading her latest when it’s a bit cheaper on kindle.

just read: In Memoriam by Alice Win
currently reading: Mother’s Boy by Patrick Gale
will be reading: Enlightenment by Sarah Perry

beguilingeyes · 16/07/2024 05:57
