Anyone else not read just one book at a time?
I've got daily reading ones, audio ones, book group ones, ebook ones, ones I'm reading slowly and ones I want to read quicker.

According to my Storygraph I've currently got 10 books on the go! I am trying to finish one before I start another though!

Only one for me, otherwise I'd confuse myself. I'd love to be able to have 3/4 on the go at once though. Do you not find you get characters or stories mixed up?

Plumtop11 · 06/02/2024 16:45

I read three at a time including one audio book. Can't keep up with any more than that

GalileoHumpkins · 06/02/2024 16:49

I read one at a time, I like to give it my full attention.

No, I make sure that they are different genres, so I read whichever I'm in the mood for. I'll often have a biography on the go, which is rather different from what fiction book I'm reading.
Today's readings are: The Horse and His Boy (chapter a day one) Time Shelter (my quicker read book, finished that) Anna Karenina (2 chapters a week, group read) and Station 11 (audiobook)

I tend to read one at a time, but I did join the MN 'War and Peace' readalong and the one for 'Anna Karenina' (not a patch on W&P IMO), so while I was reading those I read one chapter per day of Tolstoy alongside other books. It surprised me how easy it is to do that, as long as the books are quite different so you don't get confused.

chickensandbees · 06/02/2024 17:17

I have a few, usually one fiction, one non-fiction, one audio and another one on my kindle (for reading in bed) and sometimes a bookclub one as well. I try to have non-fiction on my audio and keep the fiction books different genres to avoid confusion. Sometimes I have a few non-fiction on the go which I dip in and out of, depends what they are e.g. a mindfulness book which I read a chapter a day.

Allmarbleslost · 06/02/2024 17:19

Only one. I have the attention span of a goldfish so there's no way I'd remember what I'd read so far of multiple books.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 06/02/2024 17:22

I have 5 on the go at the moment, sometimes its 6

one non fiction, one classic, one classic read along with book club (haven’t started the book club book yet) one for my bath, one for reading in the evening and sometimes there is one on my phone…thats not often though

larkstar · 06/02/2024 17:37

I use storygraph too. It's usually in the 6-8 range plus a couple of audiobooks for walking the dog. I can't sustain the attention/momentum/interest/motivation for one 700 page book and like to keep my hand in with other sorts of reading.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 06/02/2024 17:37

I gave up reading in the bath, the books are never the same after you drop them in the bathwater.

Two by the bed, two or three by the sofa, one in my bag for journeys.

muddyford · 06/02/2024 17:58

Two by the bed, one on the bedroom table to read while I am faffing with hair and skin, one downstairs.

DistinguishedSocialCommenator · 06/02/2024 18:00

Zero and not read one for 30 /40 years plus - the nearest I've been to the written phyical material is magazines at dentist, on planes and papers on planes

i have never done that 😳 oh my god the horror

i did accidentally leave one out in the rain…it was about 4 times its natural size when I finally got back to it

Absolutely. I was wrapped in a towel, shaking the water out and swaddled the book in dry towels with a heavy weight, but they either dry and get mouldy or the pages go all crinkly and expand. I can tell by looking at them the books (mercifully few) that has happened to.

mondaytosunday · 06/02/2024 18:22

I have two at the moment but only because one is a bit hard to get in to d I started another. If I'm totally immersed then I want you to read just the one.

cheezncrackers · 06/02/2024 18:22

I once dropped Bill Bryson's 'Neither Here Nor There' in a lake on holiday. I still have it on my shelf, crinkly pages and all.

bluebunnyblue · 06/02/2024 18:25

I'm like you OP, lots of different genres, bookgroup books and formats on the go. Storygraph says 13 currently reading! I am very reluctant to DNF anything so a couple of those are 'on hold' until I get the energy to pick them up again....

EffortlessDistraction · 06/02/2024 18:28

Four at the moment, one fiction on audio (Slow Horses), something totally different on Kindle (The Shell Seekers), two actual books which are both memoirs, one of a footballer and the Agatha Christie one by Lucy Worsley.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/02/2024 18:31

I have 3. Dh thinks I'm mad

One upstairs in bed

One downstairs on sofa

One in work bag

BarbaraBuncle · 06/02/2024 18:40

Two or three usually - an audiobook, something on kindle and a paperback. They all need to be different genres, though, so there's no chance of getting plots confused.

CaptainBeesKeeper · 06/02/2024 19:21

Currently a biography of ex head of mi5, and a book on a cia agent, then a book called tug of war:

1 Blowing My Cover: My Life as a CIA Spy
2 Open Secret: The Autobiography of the Former Director-General of MI5
3 Tug of War: Surveillance Capitalism, Military Contracting, and the Rise of the Security State

TattiePants · 06/02/2024 19:47

I usually have 3 on the go at once - an audio, a fiction and a non-fiction. I’ve only got two that I’m actively reading at the minute but do have three others that I’ve started then put down. I do want to get them finished soon.

needahouseindurham · 06/02/2024 19:52

I have one physical book and one audio book on the go at all times. Sometimes I have 2 audiobooks on the go (one fact type and one fiction)

MadamVastra · 06/02/2024 20:07

alldaysleeper · 06/02/2024 21:08
