Anyone else not read just one book at a time?
I've got daily reading ones, audio ones, book group ones, ebook ones, ones I'm reading slowly and ones I want to read quicker.

According to my Storygraph I've currently got 10 books on the go! I am trying to finish one before I start another though!

I couldn't read more than one at once! I would go mad. I like to concentrate on it fully.

DahliaMacNamara · 06/02/2024 22:23

Four. Well, technically five, but I so rarely get to read in bed* that the bedroom one barely counts. So that's never a new book.
*on reflection, this sounds more exciting than the reality of a middle aged man snoring in the dark next to me.

Mothership4two · 07/02/2024 05:01

Two book club ones and usually two others - often a fiction one I want to read and a non-fiction which can be any random subject

PepeLePew · 07/02/2024 14:23

I can't really manage multiple books from a single genre but do usually have several on the go. I will usually have an audio fiction and non fiction option, to switch between as the mood takes me. Currently I also have a non-fiction book on my Kindle for reading during my lunch hour and the commute, and two books (one non fiction and one novel) by my bed. Then there is Middlemarch which is downstairs and for reading when I remember - I'm not yet sufficiently gripped by it for it to become my "main" book, but I'm hoping it will happen if I just plug away.

Pashazade · 07/02/2024 14:49

Usually one on the Kindle, one in the loo downstairs, one in the bathroom upstairs, copy of Literary Review in the handbag. Plus usually another fiction one and another fact one.

Tiddlywinks63 · 07/02/2024 16:47

I’ve started at least half a dozen, I struggle to find one that engrosses me and my concentration isn’t great unfortunately.
I like biographies, crime thrillers and travel books.

viridiano · 07/02/2024 17:29

Generally one (print) book at a time. Sometimes I'll also have an audiobook on the go. Never solely an audiobook as I like to read print books before bed.

Ambertonix · 07/02/2024 20:13

Two at the moment. One paperback and one on audiobook. However they are both thrillers and im mixing up the characters and plotlines so im going to stop and do one at once. My brain cant cope!

JaninaDuszejko · 08/02/2024 10:37

Two, one at home and one at work. Never mix them up, just like I never mix up the multiple TV series that I'm watching.

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 10/02/2024 21:06

I used to try and read books in the shower as a teen... unsurprisingly, it didn't work that well
...

Normally have 3 'real' books: 1 fiction, 1 non-fiction, 1 for work. Plus one audio book, and 1 on kindle. Plus this year I'm reading 'Year of Wonder' and Brian Bilston's 'Days Like These' on kindle. So they will be on the go all year.

Goodiewhemper · 11/02/2024 07:56

I am a multiple book reader as well. Between Audible and BorrowBox I always have one fiction and one non-fiction audio on the go. I have a paperback by my bed and a book on my Kindle. I sometimes can have a fifth book going if a BorrowBox ebook I have on request drops. They are usually a mix of genres so I have no problem keeping track. At the moment I have Ed Yong's I Contain Multitudes and Guy Gavriel Kay's The Last Light of the Sun on audio. I am reading Possession on my Kindle, and Louise Doughty's Platform Seven on BorrowBox and Wintering by Katherine May is my bedside paperback.

I have noticed a few of you have mentioned Storygraph. I have been using Goodreads as do a lot of my reading buddies. How does Storygraph compare?

Buttalapasta · 11/02/2024 19:21

11!

4 - where you read a page a day over a year (I just found so many I love this year!)
2 - non-fiction
1 - PG Wodehouse in the bathroom that I read while brushing teeth
1 - "Ruth" - for MN readalong
2 - short story collections
1 - audio book

That's not including the books I have started but am not reading every day.

Edited

What page a day ones are you doing, I'm doing a chapter a day one that was posted on here, somewhere, a fantasy read along, starts with the Narnia books, the Lord of the Rings ending the year with Harry Potter. So far it's going well, and would be interested in doing others next year.

@Troubledwords I am rereading "Year of Wonder " which describes a new classical music piece each day - there is also a thread on this here!
My others are:
Everyday Shakespeare - lines for life (Crystal)
365 Poems for Life (Esiri)
Petite philosophie du matin (Rambert) as I am trying to brush up my French!

I didn't really intend to have all 4 but I couldn't choose between them!

Mazuslongtoenail · 12/02/2024 08:06

Three. I figure you don’t watch one tv series at a time so it’s not like you can only follow one narrative at once.

Buttalapasta · 12/02/2024 08:06

Should have said - these are all books already divided up into 365/6 days, designed to be read over a year. In the past, I've read The Bible, Tolstoy's Year Book and other poetry books like this. There's quite a few around.

Tiddlywinkly · 12/02/2024 21:48

Ah, hello op and other multi book people!

I usually have a fiction paperback for the commute, a new fiction hardback for the house (for those books I couldn't wait for paperback, but I don't want to lug it around), a non-fiction book to dip into and an audiobook for housework, runs etc. I have zero issue keeping track. Love it. Thanks neurodiversity! 🙂
