I read a lot where I think 'yeah, fine, that was ok' but what have you read recently that made you think 'THAT was a cut above'

So maybe particularly gripping/funny/moving or whatever.

Marriage Portrait I loved and then went back to Hamnet which I had started and not carried on with. Loved them both for the lovely, descriptive writing and phrasing.

Demon Copperhead was good but not an easy read.

Now reading the new Jane Harper book - all of hers are good for crime/ mystery fans.

Glad it's not just me people seem to rave about it!
My favourite ever book is about the Holocaust but The Tattooist of Auschwitz just made me feel nothing!

Out of curiosity, which book is that?

purpleme12 · 26/02/2024 23:18

The Storyteller - Jodi Picoult

Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent - I listened to the audiobook and was absolutely gripped from start to finish.

Soccermumamir · 28/02/2024 17:21

I've just finished reading, 'Confessions of a forty something f* up'. Absolutely brilliant.

Auntie Poldi and the Sicilian Lions, very enjoyable.
Also The Giver of Stars, by Jojo Moyes.....All my book club liked that one!

I liked the tattooist of Auschwitz, Cilka's journey not so much. Heather Morris spoke to Lale to get his story and it shows. Cilka's family weren't so happy about the story that Heather wrote of Cilka.
I've just finished the boy who followed his father into Auschwitz which I thought was really good.

Recdnt book that hooked me was Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow.

Thought I would hate it and it would be a chore to reac. But loved the characters. Was sad to let Sam and Sadie go.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow is absolutely wonderful. Seconded!

Trust Me by Lesley Pearce, it's centred around two little girls who are sent to Australia for a better life after the war, haven't been able to put it down.

Prior to this the two that have stood out are The Push by Ashley Audrain and Naomi's room by Denis Maceoin.

Hello Beautiful Ann Napolitano
And "Burial Rites* Hannah Kent, loved both.

Tom Lake by Ann Patchett, which wasn't as good as other books by her. I still enjoyed it, but just not as much as I normally do!

I’ve just finished Go as a River by Shelley Read. I loved it.
