Can anyone recommend any books set in Nazi Germany or interestingly written non fiction books about the period. For an 18 year old

Stay away from Daniel Finkelstein, he's looked at askance by serious historians.

One of the main go-to authors on the period, vand eminently readable, is still Ian Kershaw.

Alone in Berlin is a fantastic read.

Ralf Rothmann - translations of his books are “To Die in Spring” and “The God of that Summer”. They are quite gruelling but centre around teenagers/young adults during the war. They feel more authentic than many of the books from US/UK authors.

Alone in Berlin is the best in my opinion and a good introduction to Fallada's other works.
