It’s out on the 26th September, can’t wait!
The draw for me is more the will they/won’t they dynamic between Strike and Robin.
I think they probably won’t!

Thanks @BaconAndAvocado

So excited! I only discovered the series at the start of the year and have bulldozed my way through the books.

On Reddit someone has posted a PDF excerpt of the first 5 chapters of the book, or 50 pages total. Most of it was added to an Amazon preview page before being removed. Of course I couldn’t resist reading it!

I agree with the Robin/Strike frustrations. They’re showing a level of sexual self restraint not seen outside of Tibetan monks. Six years and not even a kiss…how?? I’m starting to sound like Matthew when I think about it.

Wotchaz · 13/09/2023 17:27

Thanks for the heads up, just pre-ordered!

Robin was married for a good chunk of their relationship, and now there are multiple complicating factors. Their business relationship, her history of sexual violence, his obsession with Charlotte, the age gap, his drinking. I agree that narratively keeping the 'will they won't they' going for so long is tedious, I'd far rather they were trying to make a go of it over these last 3 books. But I think it is reasonably plausible that nothing has happened yet.

While there's a year between book releases for us, within the books' timeline only 5 years have passed. Cuckoo's Calling is set in 2010, IBH in 2015.

I will definitely be reading it but hoping it’s a bit more like Troubled Blood than Ink Black Heart, which I found a bit hard going in places.

I really want to pre-order it ... but, just tonight, I was saying to DS 'don't let me order any more books!' My TBR pile is too big atm.

But I'll probably still order it

Bigbus · 14/09/2023 00:03

Ooh thanks for posting. I will definitely be preordering this. I love the tension but feel if they ever get together that will be the end of the books so kind want them to and also don’t want them to!

My TBR pile is gargantuan but....it's Strike.

There are certain authors for whom I will always cave and buy the hardback.

JK/Robert Galbraith, Kate Atkinson and Maggie O'Farrell being the front runners.
