It’s out on the 26th September, can’t wait!
The draw for me is more the will they/won’t they dynamic between Strike and Robin.
I think they probably won’t!

I’ve ordered it too! I love the tension between them, surely it can’t be much longer!! Is this the 6th one? I think she said she was going to write 9 in total.

Lancelottie · 11/09/2023 20:55

Not yet, surely? Robin needs to have a nice time with Police Boy first, while Strike agonises inarticulately in the background and spills all his innermost feelings to the sister he's never met yet.

"The Running Grave" is book #7. I've got it on preorder and am so excited! Love this series.

tribpot · 11/09/2023 20:59

Looking forward to this to take my mind off empty nest syndrome.

muchalover · 11/09/2023 21:00

I love the writing style. Galloped through ink heart.

mum2jakie · 11/09/2023 21:09

I have a long wait as I only enjoy reading paperbacks! Didn't like Ink Black Heart as much - the online forum was a bit boring and the messages disrupted the story. I just enjoy the Strike/Robin storyline too

FluffActually · 11/09/2023 22:31

Definitely not yet, Strike has a looong way to go, the eejit

SingingSands · 11/09/2023 23:08

Ooh is there another one? I've never read any of them but my DH has listened to them all on Audible. Only one he struggled with was the one with the Social Media/texts as it obviously didn't translate well into audio but he finished it.

He's never been a reader and this year has been a revelation to him, listening to these books. Quite often when we're out and about he'll see something and relate it to a character or a setting in one of the books, or he'll talk about something Strike or Robin said. It's his "thing" now and it's made me really happy seeing his enjoyment of these books.

EquallyDetermined · 11/09/2023 23:14

I've decided to audio this one, I pre-ordered the Ink Black Heart and regretted it when I saw how big it was. Although I enjoyed it, it was my least favourite to date and I found the page layout of the online parts really hard work to read.

JennyForeigner · 11/09/2023 23:21

Wait, what? I admire her for so many things, but just how fast does JKR write?

I have unsanded filler where a mirror came down that is older than Robin's marriage.

tribpot · 12/09/2023 06:11

I think she has several novels at different stages of production on the go at the same time, so she will have been sketching out the plot for The Running Grave whilst writing The Ink Black Heart and doing edits on Troubled Blood. She tweeted in February this year that The Running Grave was finished.

WandaWonder · 12/09/2023 06:16

I have only been watching the TV series, in real life I want people to get together but once the will they/won't they thing happens in books/tv it spoils it for me

If it a crime series it turns it into being about the couple not the crime bit, I want the characters to have a bit of a personal ife bit think it takes over sometimes

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 12/09/2023 06:31

I was loving this series but The Ink Black Heart was such a disappointment. The online world is boring in novel form. And like with the Potters, the books get longer and more bloated as the series progresses. She desperately needs an editor who has the guts to tell her to slim it down, but nobody will, because she's JK Rowling. Having said all that, I probably will read it 😁

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 12/09/2023 07:24

Definitely this! I think this book (and possibly the next, dammit) will be him working on resolving some of his issues. It's set in a commune in Norfolk and there have been a lot of heavy hints that something pretty terrible happened to him as a child somewhere similar so I think that there will be some confronting his past with his mum going on as well as resolving some of the father issues.

I meant to quote this!

olderbutwiser · 12/09/2023 07:29

Dissenting voice here - loved the earlier strikes but found the ink black heart incomprehensible, slow and boring, and am sick to death of the unrealistic Robyn/strike will they won’t they - jeez, it’s 2023, get a room guys. Agree it’s time for a ruthless editor or an abridged edition. I just wait for the telly versions now.

Purpleavocado · 12/09/2023 08:13

I've already used my audible credit pre-ordeding the Richard Osman so I might have to wait a few days for this one. The IBH was terrible on audible but that was due to the format, really looking forward to this one.

TheClitterati · 12/09/2023 10:34

I'm very excited and have had TRG on pre order for months.

I did enjoy IBH - it was an odd read at first, but i galloped through it. I enjoyed the more leisurely reread more.

I bought the first few Strike books from
charity shops & got hooked. Now for the first time in my life I pre order books.

Farmchild · 12/09/2023 19:57

Ok, random question all - I am desperately itching to get my hands on The Running Grave but in January I have a 10 hour flight to fill and I'm a nervous flyer so wondering... do I save it for Jan? (Would that even be possible? Love these novels so much!)

Vote?

Adviceplease2314 · 12/09/2023 20:15

It would be a good book for a long flight, you’ll be able to properly escape! Not sure I could wait though!
If you want some other good crime books that are entertaining and you haven’t already read them the Kate Atkinson series with Jackson Brodie are good and very easy to get into and enjoy

BaconAndAvocado · 12/09/2023 20:28

The Jackson Brodie books are fantastic!
I don’t think you’ll manage to wait but if you do, it would be a lovely thing to read it on a long flight.

OP posts:
EquallyDetermined · 12/09/2023 20:51

Yes, I love the Jackson Brodie books too

BetsyBobbins · 12/09/2023 21:46

Hi everyone!

Another anxious one for TRG here. Who did you all ore order with?

I think that while TIBH was a bit hard going in reading format, the screen adaptation is going to be incredible, all the online stuff was made for the screen. I'm super visual person so I was imagining all kinds of gaming and chat modes in my head while reading

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 12/09/2023 22:32

I'm going against the grain but I wouldn't want to read it on a flight. I read some of IBH on a plane and it was not at all comfortable - tiny seat, big heavy book, really not ideal. Assuming RG will also be a bit of an epic time, it may not be of course! (Hope it is though)

BaconAndAvocado · 13/09/2023 11:23

BetsyBobbins I’ve preordered through Amazon. Think it was half price at £12.50.
