Other than a visit to the British Library and the large Waterstones at Piccadilly ,can anyone suggest book related activities for two huge book nerds who want a day out in London ? Thank you

Good call @Meadowdog - and the poor old Hardy tree too. I believe there's a theory that Mary and Percy Shelley 'got to know each other' over her mother's grave.

If you go to Bloomsbury for Gay's the Word etc @Meduse you can also see a blue plaque where Percy and Mary got to know each other more.

And if you go to Daunt Books you're not far from an Elizabeth Barrett Browning plaque, where she (perhaps less physically than Mary and Percy) got to know Robert before they eloped.

Waterstones in Gower Street. Big and interesting (more academic offering than Piccadilly). They have secondhand and remainders too.

Skoob and Judd are both wonderful and also relatively nearby.

I actually think Gower St is far superior to Piccadilly, the bonus is its very close to most of the other suggestions.
