Other than a visit to the British Library and the large Waterstones at Piccadilly ,can anyone suggest book related activities for two huge book nerds who want a day out in London ? Thank you

Foyles on Charing Cross Road.

If they liked the Harry Potter books, or to be honest just general illustrations of books , I love this place House of minalima

Visit Us

How to find the Soho gallery and its sister store in Osaka, Japan. House of MinaLima exhibits Miraphora and Eduardo's work on the Harry Potter films.

The London Review Bookshop near the British Museum has a lovely tearoom.

NuffSaidSam · 10/09/2023 23:38

I think there are a few guided tours with a literary theme, Dickens, Sherlock Holmes. I'm sure there are others.

Stanfords for travel books. Their new shop isn't a patch on the old one, but still in a nice area for a mooch.

Still miss that Long Acre shop. 😔

@Meduse If you’re doing Bloomsbury don’t miss Skoob Books in Brunswick Square and Judd Books in Marchmont Street. Skoob is secondhand, Judd remainders and new. Both can be very interesting if caught at the right moment.

Meduse · 11/09/2023 18:19

Great suggestions from you all ( I knew there would be 😁)
Thank you

I would also say Skoob Books, Charing Cross Road second hand bookshops, Southbank Book Market and the Dickens Museum

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/09/2023 20:39

Me too @MrsDanversGlidesAgain , it was my favourite shop in the world when I was a nerdy teenager.

Daunt Books in Marylebone! Great places for coffee/lunch around there too

Terpsichore · 12/09/2023 08:54

PS @Meduse not sure whether you know London well but those two places I mentioned are very close together, and also not far at all from the London Review Bookshop. So that’s a nice little self-contained unit of trip in its own right.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/09/2023 20:02

Daunt books in Marylebone and Gay's the Word/Judd in Bloomsbury are two very different and very lovely shops.

How about grave/blue plaque spotting? Pick a few to check off - eg Blake's grave near Old Street or Sylvia Plath plaque in Primrose Hill.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/09/2023 20:02

I can't count - Judd makes it three, not two!

TheGoodEnoughWife · 12/09/2023 20:04

I second Goldsboro books. Was there last week - quite small at the moment but some beautiful books - many with sprayed edges!

I loved that shop. Was gutted when I found out they'd moved. Agree the new one is nowhere as nice.

Feeling like I need a day bookshop browsing in London with these suggestions.

I saw this recently. Fun and quirky if you're in that area... short detour if you're heading to the British Library
