For anyone that doesn't mind paranormal nonsense, I would go for 'No Rest for the Wicked' - Kresley Cole. And 'Ecstasy Unveiled' - Larissa Ione.

Im quite a fan of historical romantic stuff, I get some people think they are granny books with Fabio on the cover but I assure you these are not and they are hot fun reads:

Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase is simply the best and beloved by readers and Al romance authors -it has a wonderful female lead and I just love it!

Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas (and any of the Ravenels, Hathaways or Wallflowers by Kleypas)

Anything written by a Sarah Maclean, Ten rules to break is really good as is the gamblers series

The Penny Royal series by Julie Anne Long, book 6 (how the marquess was won) is my favourite

The Rakess by Scarlet Peckham

You're a reader after my own heart @SteadyGrasshopper !

I would also add Monica McCartney's Highland Guard series if you like 14th century Scotland and Anne Stuart's House of Rohan series and Scandal at the House of Russel trilogy. Some more of my absolute favourite books!

SteadyGrasshopper · 31/10/2023 09:07

@Mytholmroyd it’s lovely to meet a fellow historic romance reader! I will check those books out, thank you for the recommendations.

You may already listen but Sarah Maclean does a great podcast called Fated Mates.

Mytholmroyd · 31/10/2023 10:16

@SteadyGrasshopper no not listened - thanks - will check it out!

Oh yes - huge fan for years! The authors and books you cite are some of my favourites! Jane Castel is also excellent although her books are set a bit earlier in the Roman/Early Medieval/Pictish periods - try Maximus or Blood Feud for starters!

McCarty not macartney 🙄

SteadyGrasshopper · 31/10/2023 10:34

Thanks @Mytholmroyd I am always keen to add to the list! If you do listen to Fated Mates be aware that the numbering is a bit off at the start. It started as a series celebrating Kresley Cole’s immortals after dark series but has become its own thing. This is a great one to start with as they interview Loretta Chase https://fatedmates.net/episodes/tag/Loretta+chase

Loretta chase — Episodes — Fated Mates Podcast

The most listened to romance novel podcast, Fated Mates is co-hosted by bestselling author Sarah MacLean and romance critic Jen Prokop. Weekly episodes include romance novel read-alongs and lively discussions of the work of the genre, highlighting the...

Yes I saw that! Great piece.

I've never done Jilly (the shame). I've asked my local 2nd-hand book dealer to keep an eye out for Riders & Rivals. Gotta start at the beginning :)

I got a couple of other Rebecca Chance books from the library and I'm afraid I found them a huge disappointment...

After the delight of Bad Brides, I ordered Divas and Bad Sisters.

Loved Divas, and halfway through loving Bad Sisters. They're such a laugh, utterly over the top and great escapism. Reminds me a bit of Louise & Tilly Bagshawe books. But better!

HermioneWeasley · 11/11/2023 11:47

@Dustyblue likewise I’m working my way through Bad Twins and read another - bad girls possibly?

Dustyblue · 12/11/2023 01:40

The titles are hard to keep track of! I plan to keep on reading RC until I find a BAD one (see what I did there?) 😜

RachelGreensHair · 20/11/2023 02:07

Red, White and Royal Blue

Mumsanetta · 12/12/2023 13:21

I would recommend King of Wrath by Ana Huang and Severed by Vengeance by Elle Maldonado, both very good and the first books in a series if you want more! I’ve just recommended these on another thread, they are rather spicy though …
Placing an order for Bad Brides as I type!

secondmeans · 12/12/2023 20:37

Was quite startled by the jacuzzi scene in 'Bad Brides'...A silly but enjoyable book.

Bad Brides is my book/author of the year & I have MN to thank.🤗

Grabbed "Bad Angels" as it's set a Christmas-time but not loving the 1st couple of chapters. Will persevere though. Still a few Rebecca Chance left to go, so glad I found her.

cathyandclaire · 30/12/2023 13:01

Have just ordered Bad Brides- sounds like just the sort of trash I adore!

I'm also a historical romance devotee, so thanks for those recommendations , just finished The Rakess and loved it.

watbrook · 30/12/2023 19:03

I could feel myself blushing when I read the scene with Tamra and the brothers in Bad Brides...

My own faves would be:
The Tutor - Portia da Costa
The Butcher - Alina Reyes
The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea - Cheryl Mildenhall
The Seven Year List - Zoe Le Verdier

Sorry if that's too many...

watbrook · 30/12/2023 20:27

Oh they weren't brothers, that was just my imagination.

Dustyblue · 31/12/2023 02:31

They were bisexual male prostitutes. I remember it well (goes boggled-eyed at thought).

Still going through Rebecca's many fine pieces of literature. Bless her.

HermioneWeasley · 31/12/2023 09:47

Yes, that scene was a particular stand out. I left my copy at my hotel this summer and wonder what whoever picked it up made of it. I feel like I should have left a little note about it being really filthy.

Dustyblue · 31/12/2023 10:37

@HermioneWeasley I would've been thrilled to find that in a hotel room!

I gave my copy to my SIL. We have some cross-over in fiction tastes, thought she might like it.

I've not heard from her since. It's likely a coincidence, we're not that close but still.... hope she can still look me in the eye next I see her 😨

Maybe she's afraid you'll ask for it back!

Thank you! No, not too many... love hearing about authors I've not read if they've been recommended here.

I have better luck with MN book reviews that goodreads or anywhere else 😍

WhyWayle · 06/01/2024 21:23

Emma Holly - 'Velvet Glove', 'Menage', 'All You Can Eat', and a historical one I can't recall the name of.

Hard agree on 'The Tutor' by Portia Da Costa

HermioneWeasley · 07/01/2024 10:21

Love Emma Holly and Lily Harlem, but IMO they’re erotica rather than bonkbuster

secondmeans · 21/02/2024 21:42

Found a copy of 'Scruples 2' by Judith Krantz on a supermarket charity stall. It's not a good book, but it has a scene which seems to have inspired the Jacuzzi scene in 'Bad Brides'.
