I'm trying to find a series of books I can work my way through. I'd like crime/police, female detective set in the Uk. I've listened to some Sally Rigby books and I think I'll try Elly Griffith but any other recommendations?

I have just noticed that you said UK female detectives though 😫. Neither of my suggestions are UK based sorry!

Mick Heron does a series based in Oxford with a female detective. He's a brilliant author. His slow horses series about spies is sublime.

Don't worry, it's just that when it's set in the UK I can visualise it easier. I was trying to be specific so I didn't get the more usual Mumsnet sarcastic comments!

I'm just starting the third in the Dorset murders series by Rachael McLean, I've enjoyed the first two. She also has some others series that I've yet to read.

Highly recommend the DI Grace series by MJ Arlidge. Several members of my family of all (adult) ages unable to put them down. Set in Southampton.

Thanks for these suggestions, just what I needed 😀

Veronica Stallwood has a series of books set in Oxford. The main person is Kate Ivory, a journalist rather than a detective, but she solves crimes. They are quite fun, and easy to read.

The Detective's Daughter series are very good, especially the earlier ones.

The Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear is great if you like historical crime books. Book 1 is set in the mid 1920s. There's 17 books in the series so plenty to keep you going.

Other historical crime series involving British female detectives are Her Royal Spyness series by Rhys Bowen and the Daisy Dalrymple series by Carola Dunn. Both series are set in the early 20th century and are easy reads.

Hillary Greene by Faith Martin. I buy them on Kindle

I was just about to recommend these too. I think I found out about them from Mumsnet originally too 😊

Erika Foster by Robert Bryndza (I think that's how you spell it). Read them all, and I'm a female detective!

There is also the Nicola Upson series of books where the author Josephine Tey is the detective.

The Perfect series by Helen Fields is great - I discovered it from a similar mumsnet thread a while ago.

Perfect Remains is the first one and they're all set in/around Edinburgh. It's a police/crime series with Ava Turner/Luc Callanach investigating

Nicky Galena (on the fens series) by Joy Ellis. She also has 2 other series based in Lincolnshire but with male detectives- all very good.
