I love a good psychological thriller! I haven't read since before having my son 3 years ago, and I've stupidly got used to playing on my phone too much.

I loved behind her eyes, behind closed doors, the couple next door, Gone girl, girl on the train etc!

Can you recommend me a great gripping psychological thriller?

Poppet by Mo Hayder is a fantastic read. Have leant it to friends and family and they have all enjoyed it too. Gripping.

Have you tried Barbara Vine/Ruth Rendall, older than the ones you mentioned but well worth it

popyourcollar · 19/01/2023 19:25

Magpie Lane is really good

Hostage - Clare Mackintosh - just read this and loved it

Three Hours - Rosemary Lupton - one of my favourite books I read last year

All of her books are so good! I wish she'd release another one in The Walking Man series.

Have you tried Lisa Jewell?

Xrays · 19/01/2023 22:20

I’ve not finished it yet but currently reading Notes on an Execution and really enjoying it. Very, very dark.

Habreathmint · 19/01/2023 22:26

@ALittleBitAhAh Mo Hayder is sadly dead. I had no idea she was the sexy secretary on Are You Being Served!

The Boat by Clara Salaman is chilling and is based on a real experience she had 😬

AlmondBake · 19/01/2023 23:31

@Habreathmint - goodness I had no idea about that! I see she died aged 59 with motor neurone disease. So sad.

These two.

The only really good psycho thrillers I've read over the past couple of years.

The genre is just too overdone now. Too many middle class professional women called Libbie with teenagers and nice houses who meet nutters. 😂

SolInvictus · 20/01/2023 12:50

Just thinking: the early Nicci French ones were very good- the first four or five.
I didn't mind Mo Hayder but found the violence a little bit too gratuitous.
The Tony Hill Val Mcdermids were good.
If you read the Silent Patient, don't go on to The Maidens which was the biggest pile of steaming bollocking tosh I started last year. And did not finish.

Thank you everyone!!

The push is really good.

Lisa Jewell has some good thrillers - Then She was Gone and The family Upstairs are probably her two best
