Not in an anti M&H/royalty way, or in a. 'Snippets from TikTok' way but I'm reading it and there are bits it would be nice to talk about.

Just got to the poem that 'every Brit knows' and 'what schoolboy or schoolgirl didn't encounter at least once these sonorous final lines?'

Me! Eng lit degree, a levels, o levels - never heard it before (perils of a state school education at a comp)

'Out of the night that covers me..'

Worth a google?

I know the last two lines but not the poem.

That was definitely a flourish from the ghostwriter, I reckon….🤣

OneFrenchEgg · 18/01/2023 19:06

Totally agree. Have you got to the bit where he describes the “summit” between the Sussexes and the Cambridge pair? He describes how Kate was clinging to the side of the sofa so hard that he knuckles were white.

No, just past TK Maxx and living alone with agoraphobia?

I haven’t got the bit when Harold Killer Wales discusses his predilection for killing endangered Hen Harriers, owls and other wild birds and buffalos.
Or the bit when his ‘beloved’ lol, 10 year old mare dies of a heart attack after being overridden by a huge manchild on her back.
still waiting to hear him discuss his love of spurs and justify drawing blood and injuring his horses on numerous occasions.
Will it address his alleged abuse of sex workers?
No?
Colour me surprised.
Maybe Rousette, Killer Wales numero uno fan can explain.

WimpoleHat · 18/01/2023 19:11

Ah. Persevere and some more treats will be in store for you….🤣

SylviasMotherSaid · 18/01/2023 19:13

I’ve finished it and I have to say I enjoyed it as someone who is fascinated by royal history it was interesting for me just to hear a bit about the everyday life of someone in that environment . I like Harry I know so many people are saying oh the real him has been revealed and they don’t like it but he seems to have been surrounded by either very cold aloof people or pals /staff who are quite happy to see him make an arse of himself .
I think the whole Taliban thing was badly reported on by the press and as far as I know the press already knew many years ago he had killed in the line of duty so don’t quite get the hype about all of that .
would love to know more about Kate gripping the couch and I do think a lot has been missed out which would probably be interesting for nosy people like me .

This is naughty. And not for those of an easily offended disposition, nor those who prefer to avoid references in ooor taste to Diana, Princess of Wales. But - with those caveats - it is very, very funny….

I saw that! It is funny.
I'm just very nosy about the palace life - cannot imagine how weird it is tbh.
I've also got Norman Bakers book to read.

I’ve just finished Gyles Brandreth’s biography of the Queen. Would recommend it; it’s chatty but well written with (I sense) some very real insight into how HMQ and Prince Philip might have felt about things. (He was friendly with the Duke of E and had clearly spent a lot of time talking to the family.)

OneFrenchEgg · 18/01/2023 20:12

Oh I really like GB on tv and he is friends with Sheila Hancock who is my favourite actress

Ok, bollocks she didn't google him. All that time apart and not once?

OP posts:
OneFrenchEgg · 19/01/2023 19:32

And now a coy reference to Andrew.
Meghan apparently asked who 'the assistant was' which meant 'she definitely hadn't googled us.'
He's been so open about everything else, no opinion on Andrew?

The fox! What was that all about. I have been enjoying the box but I have definitely had eyeroll laughing moments for example the fox.
The whole go shopping that is me done for 6 months. I just thought wouldn't it be nice to get a whole new wardrobe every 6 months! No idea of how privileged he is.

He does seem to think animals are giving him special messages its the drugs

Does the tome address Harold’s predilection for trophy and big game hunting, his well documented abuse of polo ponies (riding a 10 year old mare called Drizzle to death plus injuries from spurs)? Does it address his alleged abuse of sex workers?

@GreekDogRescue Indeed it doesn’t. Nor the well documented rumour that he bullied a boy in his year at Eton so badly that he had to leave the school and undergo years of therapy…..

He talks often about hunting, yes.

Menstrualcycledisplayteam · 24/01/2023 14:21

Not so well documented that I can find anything about it after a Google search. But I'm sure you're right 🙄

OneFrenchEgg · 24/01/2023 14:57

Some of that stuff is just 'blind' type items people can share online. I'm nit going to believe everything; there's nothing on bullying online I can see aside from him talking about being bullied.
Back to the book, I'm finding M stuff quite hard to wade through; he is very smitten.

@OneFrenchEgg my read of the No opinion on Prince Andrew is:

the book is about where he has had difficulties with the family / institution.

i assume he doesn’t talk about Andrew because:

  • not his story to tell
  • respect for Beatrice and Eugenie especially E whom he’s close to

im sure he does and Meghan certainly does have opinions about him.

but in that sense although he’s shared some very personal conversations, the ones he’s shared illustrate his central argument that he feels used / ignored / manipulated by his closest family and the institution.

and he has been restrained as he has not told lots of other juicy scandalous things he clearly knows about other members of the RF.

MarshaMelrose · 24/01/2023 21:22

Unlike William's penis and Charles' teddy bear? How did revealing those details illustrate his argument that he was ignored or manipulated?

OneFrenchEgg · 24/01/2023 21:26

Interesting thoughts on lack of Andrew commentary thank you . I wonder if there's a legal advice there that suggested he didn't include it.

Also… Andrew is his uncle, they may not have spent much time together for anecdotes like the teddy bear one. I see my uncle about once a year, I think.

That's true.
I've got bored with it and stopped reading it now I'm at the meeting Meghan, intro to the family bits. I need to pick it back up again really but I've got distracted by a fiction book I started.
