anywhere to get books when libraries shut?

i was just wondering i usually always get books from the library and read several a week, this is likely to increase while we are all at home. however obviously now libraries are all shut. i was wondering if there is any other way to borrow physical books? i don't want ebooks or online or anything but actual books. can't really afford to buy either as any spare money going towards increased food budget with kids at home. does anyone have any ideas or things i may not have thought of? i know bigger things to worry about at the moment but reading is my main escape and i have hardly any books left to read and it is stressing me out

How is she breaking rules, libraries are shut. I missed the bit in her post where she said she was planning a break in.🙄

You are entitled to exercise. Round here that is walking round housing estates. People living books out and staying in poses zero risk and us perfectly except able. You kill 2 birds with one stone.

Verb3naSantos · 24/03/2020 18:22

Acceptable

Verb3naSantos · 24/03/2020 18:23

Op supermarkets sell books really cheap. Sainsbury’s has a good range.

Wolfiefan · 24/03/2020 18:25

Stop worrying about what you are entitled to. The advice is stay at home.
Essential travel only.
Minimise time outside.
Borrowing a physical book is not essential.

Verb3naSantos · 24/03/2020 18:28

But perfectly ok as a form of exercise if there is zero contact.

SuckingDieselFella · 24/03/2020 18:42

@Verb3naSantos

I'm struggling to understand how anybody could be this stupid but maybe you don't understand what's going on?

Why do you think you've been told to stay at home?

Can you explain it to me?

Sarcelle · 24/03/2020 18:43

I don't get why people are still having things delivered by Amazon etc. The delivery drivers touch doors, bells etc of many different abodes, and the likelihood is they come into contact with the virus several times a day/week, particularly as time goes on and more cases appear. In London in particular. And the packages themselves might have the virus on. It lasts more than 24 hours on cardboard. Non-essential deliveries should all be stopped too.

Verb3naSantos · 24/03/2020 18:44

So you’re now saying you can’t have your hour of exercise. Don’t think I’m the stupid one.

Verb3naSantos · 24/03/2020 18:45

There is nothing wrong from picking up books left out with zero contact in front of a closed door whilst exercising. Nothing.

mrsmuddlepies · 24/03/2020 18:49

lots of stations have help yourself to a free book. Ditto local telephone boxes etc adopted by individual roads

Wolfiefan · 24/03/2020 19:00

You’re not “entitled to an hour of exercise.”
You’re supposed to stay home unless it’s essential for you to go out.
They will have to ban people from going out without proof it’s essential at this rate.
Meanwhile.
People die.

Verb3naSantos · 24/03/2020 19:09

You do realise you’re completely wrong. I suggest you watch the news and listen to the prime minister.

Wolfiefan · 24/03/2020 19:21

Nope. Not wrong. Just going on the Gov website. The message is to stay in. If people don’t listen they will start having to be more draconian.
We’ve even been contacted by the local council to say no one can use outside play equipment or gym equipment due to the way the virus can survive outside of the body.
But you can’t tell people who think they’re “entitled” Hmm

Verb3naSantos · 24/03/2020 19:32

Here let me help

www.gov.uk/government/speeches/pm-address-to-the-nation-on-coronavirus-23-march-2020

You seem to be ignoring the 4 reasons we can go out which includes daily exercise.

SorrelBlackbeak · 24/03/2020 19:34

You're not entitled to an hour of exercise. You're entitled to go outside for exercise on your own or with your immediate household once a day without any time limit.

You can obviously chose not to do so, but the government guidelines are absolutely clear at the moment that that is okay.

Wolfiefan · 24/03/2020 19:44

Nah. You’re not helping. People who don’t stay home are endangering people like me with immune conditions. But if you’re “entitled” I suppose I should just go and die now. Angry

Verb3naSantos · 24/03/2020 19:47

Oh for goodness sake go and complain to your prime minister. He has told the nation to get daily exercise so we are.

SuckingDieselFella · 24/03/2020 19:56

To put it anther way, some people are entitled and dense.

Ginfordinner · 24/03/2020 20:00

The Amazon Kindle app is free to download on your phone. You can then sign up for the daily deal from Amazon.

Wolfiefan · 24/03/2020 20:02

He hasn’t told you to get daily exercise. You’re being stupid.

Verb3naSantos · 24/03/2020 20:04

Okaaaay. Did you read the speech?Hmm

SorrelBlackbeak · 24/03/2020 20:05

Some people are capable of both reading and understanding the government rules and deciding whether they want to stick to them or restrict themselves to a greater extent. If you think that is entitled and dense, your first stop is the government and the chief medical officer. Im sure they'll listen to your expert knowledge.

SorrelBlackbeak · 24/03/2020 20:07

From the gov.uk website

  1. Staying at home
You should only leave the house for one of four reasons: • Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible. • One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household. • Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person. • Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home.
highlandcoo · 25/03/2020 11:27

I realise we're all anxious however the "What We're Reading" area has so far remained a peaceful haven to escape to at this worrying time.

Could we keep it like that please.
