I recently read The Earth abides. Since then I have read the Last Light trilogy, How I live now and Empty World. Can anyone recommend something similar? There something about surviving and starting again that I just really enjoy reading about.

Just wanted to say that I absolutely love Earth Abides and have read it many times over the years.

The Penultimate Truth by Phillip K Dick might be worth a read too. From wiki : The story is set in a future where the bulk of humanity is kept in large underground shelters. The people are told that World War III is being fought above them, when in reality the war ended years ago.

The carhullan army is really good!

Try Sheri Tepper - the Gate to Women's Country is a post-apocalyptic, her other stuff is largely dystopian.

I'm reading the Power. It's OK, not the best. I have Vox ready to read next.

The Road, Cormac McCarthy

Read who runs the world by Virginia Bergin. It’s young adult so an easy read but a fun thought experiment around a world without men.
She also wrote the rain and the storm which are good reads.
Neville Shute the beach and all the John wyndhams are fab for 1950’s vibe.

I think you may enjoy Station 11 by Emily St John Mandel. It's set in the near future where a flu virus has wiped out most of the population. It then follows a group of survivors twenty years post-virus. They are a group of travelling actors moving around settlements performing Shakespeare plays.

They’re young adult books but I enjoyed the Hugh Howey series Dusy, Wool and I can’t remember the other book

I really enjoyed Swan Song by Robert McCammon, and obviously there's The Stand by Stephen King. They're both extremely well written. More recently I've enjoyed a number of more 'trashy' post apocalyptic audiobooks, which aren't exactly classics but which I've thoroughly enjoyed. These include the Commune series, the Arisen series, the Mountain Man series and the Gray series. Arisen and Mountain Man are zombie series', the other two focus on other types of apocalypse.

For anyone who enjoyed The end of the world running club' , the sequel ' The end of the world survivor's club' is currently only 99p on kindle. I just finished it yesterday, its fab and I highly recommend.

My favourite post-apocalyptic novel is The Chrysalids by John Wyndham (post nuclear apocalypse).

I love John Wyndham too. ^^ The Chrysalids & Day of the Triffids especially.

I also really like John Christopher's The Death of Grass.

My favourite post apocalyptic book though is The Dog Stars, by Peter Heller. It's about a man who is a pilot of a small plane, living on a small airfield somewhere in the States with his dog and another man, using his plane to look for other survivors. It's just beautiful.

I really enjoyed the John Christopher book Empty World. I will definitely try the Death of Grass. Dog Stars also sounds promising. I had forgotten about The End of the World running club, someone else mentioned it recently as being really good.
Station Eleven sounds interesting. I will definitely try that. In fact I have put every book mentioned here on my Amazon list.

@fishonabicycle Last Light is by Alex Scarrow. The second is Afterlight. I have no idea why I wrote trilogy! There are only two though for some reason in my head there are three!
Last light seemed so believable to me when I first read it. I think I am a closet prepper.

Oh god I saw the title and thought I’d be a smarty pants and recommend The Earth Abides . I know that these are maybe not what you’re thinking but The Handmaids Tale and 1984 are both gripping.

I have been meaning to read The Handmaid's Tale for ages. I have read 1984 but years ago. Definitely worth another read at some point. Well with my current list I'm on track for at least 60 books in a year (upping my game - I did 53 last year)
