Welcome to the first nominated Book of the Month. For July it is to be:

BABYFACE - by Fiona Gibson, published last Monday in paperback (details to follow in the next post).

As an added bonus for Mumsnetters, the publishers, Hodder and Stoughton are giving away 10 free copies to the first Mumsnet members to apply!

If you would like to be in with a chance of winning, please send a postcard with your name, address and chat nickname to:

Emma Longhurst
"Mumsnet Bookclub Competition"
Hodder and Stoughton Publishers
338 Euston Road
London
NW1 3BH

Emma will then send the first 10 entries received (or the first 10 pulled out of a hat if she receives more than 10 in first post) a copy of the book.

I hope by posting this in the evening, that Mumsnetters logging during the day and those in the evening have an equal chance of winning!

For everyone else, the book is being sold in most major bookshops and is also available in both Tesco and Asda for the next few months - so should be easy to get hold of.

As this is our nominated book of the month for July, we will hold a live discussion at the end of July (date and time to be confirmed). I know I can't stop people chatting about it beforehand (and nor do I want to) but please avoid giving away any plotlines until at least mid-July!

Hope you are not able to read this Freddiecat, but are dandling a cute little Freddiekitten atm!

wickedstepmum · 05/07/2004 20:39

Freddiecat - I've just seen the date you posted! Hope all went extremely well!!

eddm · 10/07/2004 01:24

Thanks very much, Freddiecat. When I saw the envelope I thought it was going to be some dull, job-related stuff but out fell a MN book and I was sooo excited!
Not half as excited as you must be right now though . Hope it all went very well

Freddiecat · 10/07/2004 14:26

Still no baby - this must be the longest latent phase ever...

Anyway - now that all the winners have received their books, and everyone else has had a chance to buy if they wish, it's time to start thinking about discussions.

I am not convinced by the idea of a live discussion as we all log on at different times of day and week. However I am keen to try and avoid lots of discussion before people have had a chance to read much as I think it kills the discussion a bit.

So, how about we set a date for the discussion to start - and then have a free-for-all after that?! I was thinking of Wednesday 21st July as being a good date to start. If lots of people want more time then please let me know. In the mean time if you are close to finishing, jot down any thoughts you have on the characters, the plot or anything else to do with the book ready for the 21st!

Demented · 19/07/2004 15:08

All done here too.

mummysurfer · 19/07/2004 15:10

demented - are you about on Wednesday for the 'chat'? don't know what time it's going to happen, if at all. evening would be best for me as kids off school now so can only nip on MN now and again during the day.
