Welcome to the first nominated Book of the Month. For July it is to be:

BABYFACE - by Fiona Gibson, published last Monday in paperback (details to follow in the next post).

As an added bonus for Mumsnetters, the publishers, Hodder and Stoughton are giving away 10 free copies to the first Mumsnet members to apply!

If you would like to be in with a chance of winning, please send a postcard with your name, address and chat nickname to:

Emma Longhurst
"Mumsnet Bookclub Competition"
Hodder and Stoughton Publishers
338 Euston Road
London
NW1 3BH

Emma will then send the first 10 entries received (or the first 10 pulled out of a hat if she receives more than 10 in first post) a copy of the book.

I hope by posting this in the evening, that Mumsnetters logging during the day and those in the evening have an equal chance of winning!

For everyone else, the book is being sold in most major bookshops and is also available in both Tesco and Asda for the next few months - so should be easy to get hold of.

As this is our nominated book of the month for July, we will hold a live discussion at the end of July (date and time to be confirmed). I know I can't stop people chatting about it beforehand (and nor do I want to) but please avoid giving away any plotlines until at least mid-July!

According to the publishers it is available in "all good bookshops" and is also being sold in Asda and Tesco for the next few months.

Amazon have it here

I've just finished it (just started maternity leave and have a lot of spare time!) and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to when the discussion starts soon!

I entered the competition so there are at least two of us waiting hopefully

Every time I see this thread in the active conversations list I hope it names the winnners...

mummysurfer · 27/06/2004 13:24

i entered too...
wish there was some news, as could buy it if i'm not lucky.

Freddiecat · 27/06/2004 13:29

I promise I will post as soon as I hear anything!

So that makes three then!

Sorry for appearing so impatient, I just hoped I would know before I go on holiday, thought it would be nice reading material whilst away. Don't want to buy a copy if I'm going to come back and find out I've won one.

Benjaminsmummy · 27/06/2004 15:14

Me too Demented - we're going away on Saturday and I would like to know whether or not to buy a copy.

Although seeing as DS is 7 months, not sure how much time I'll get for reading

Demented · 28/06/2004 14:36

That's strange Nikcola, I would imagine they are both the same book, maybe the more expensive one is printed on better quality paper or something. Being a cheapskate I would go for the cheaper one.

Freddiecat · 29/06/2004 23:27

We have 6 winners!!!

They are:
Benjaminsmummy
Charlieplus3
Mummysurfer
Yorkiegirl
Battes
Demented

Books went out this afternoon!

Given that slightly fewer people actually sent Emma postcards than we anticipated (4 still unclaimed!) - can I ask why that was? This will help us to target future offers a little better!

Ooh - I am excited - I've won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not going over the top there or anything of course.

charliecat · 29/06/2004 23:31

I thought you would be so innundated I didnt bother!

Freddiecat · 29/06/2004 23:35

charliecat would you have entered if it had been via email?

OP posts:
roisin · 29/06/2004 23:35

I thought you'd be inundated too. So I've ordered it from the library instead.

popsycal · 29/06/2004 23:36

i would have entered if it had been via email.....

charliecat · 29/06/2004 23:40

Yes, as email is ssssooo much easier than locating a pen and a piece of paper..and ohhh getting to the postbox WITH the letter...near on impossible these days!

Demented · 30/06/2004 00:38

Woo hoo! I'm really excited!!! That means it may be here in time for my holiday!

Perhaps if the offer had a closing date that entries had to be in by (either email or post but agree email would probably be easier) and then it was random, picking names out of a bag sort of thing maybe more would have entered. I must say if I hadn't seen the competition right away I probably would have thought it was too late to enter.

Does that mean four more people can still write in and win a copy?

mummysurfer · 30/06/2004 00:40

yipppeeee

i'm off on holiday next wednesday (something else i won on MN) and now i'll be able to take my other prize.

miranda2 · 30/06/2004 00:54

I didn't enter because I assumed I'd seen it too late and they'd all have gone - if there's a spare one going I'd love it though!

charliecat · 30/06/2004 00:56

Me too!

bbensley · 30/06/2004 01:00

I thought I was too late too

Such a pessimist

mummytosteven · 30/06/2004 01:14

I was too lazy to get anything in the post - e-mail is far better. Any of the spare copies available

OK there are 4 more copies available.

If you would like to try and win one then do the following:

  1. Send me an email to [email protected] by 8pm on Sunday. You should state your name and address.

  2. I will pick 4 names at random and send them to Emma at Hodder on Monday.

Good luck!
