I know I've been hogging the boards the last few days, but I don't care :P Just been curious on other peoples opinions on things.

I didn't know where to put this, so I apologise if it's in the wrong category.

I was wondering what everyones favourite Urban Legend/Cautionary Tale was. I have been fascinated in them for pretty much forever, due to so many meanings and of course expressing the nations fears.

So what are your favourites? Feel free to share the UL with us! :)

Damn you Lord why do you insist on asking these questions! It bumps the thread, I can't help but click to see the latest and then all manner of things pop into my head! I curse you and your insatiable thirst for scary stories!

Most scary films freak me out once I'm home alone, but Paranormal Activity had me screaming and clutching my friend's had in the cinema Blush

LadyFlumpalot · 13/08/2012 08:32

Scariest film by a long shot is "The Woman in Black" only saw it recently but it has outdone "The Grudge" which was my previous scariest.

I hate scary films and usually refuse to watch them.

whatkungfuthat · 13/08/2012 09:38

The Grudge didn't bother me, I'm trying to think of the scariest ones I have seen recently. The most scared I have been by a film was when I saw Halloween for the first time (in daylight).

Moominsarescary · 13/08/2012 09:49

The ring totally freaked me out

whatkungfuthat · 13/08/2012 09:54

What was the film where the woman moved into a new apartment with her DD and horrible things happened to do with a water tower on the top? I think that was a remake of a japanese film too.

JodieHarsh · 13/08/2012 10:22

RIGHT

I began this thread last night, shortly after my husband left for a night shift

I finished it just now, sitting alone in an all but abandoned underground office

THANKS. THanks for nothing. No seriously.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 13/08/2012 10:38

Dark Water? The Japanese original is even scarier.

butisthismyname · 13/08/2012 10:54

IT. horrible horrible horrible..

MrsHelsBels74 · 13/08/2012 10:56

Flatliners totally freaked me out. I saw it at a midnight showing then had to go home to an empty house (was about 16 at the time) & I couldn't sleep for thinking about what I might have done in the past that could potentially come back & haunt me!

I'm not one for scary films.

SausageSmuggler · 13/08/2012 11:09

When I was a teenager I used to love scary films - The Exorcist and Hellraiser etc didn't bother me. Then I watched The Ring and it freaked me out so much that I now can't watch scary films. I saw it when it came out at the cinema so...10/11 years ago? Still occasionally gives me shivers.

whatkungfuthat · 13/08/2012 11:15

That's the one LadyClarice, urgh

threeleftfeet · 13/08/2012 11:31

Not a scary one, but I love the story:

A friend-of-a-friend was asked by a neighbour if they'd mind looking after their lovely fluffy white rabbit while they were away. Their gardens joined, so all they'd need to do was hop over and put some food in the rabbit's cage. They said of course, no problem.

The neighbours went away. But before my friends-of-a-friend had got round to feeding the rabbit, their own dog appeared at the door with the rabbit, dead in its mouth!

Now they really didn't want to fall out with the neighbours, so instead of coming clean they hatched a plan. Luckily the rabbit didn't actually have any teeth marks or blood on it, so there was no way of the neighbours knowing the dog has got it. It was pretty dirty though, so they washed it, and then blow dried it (it looked lovely and fluffy!) and put it back in the cage, hoping the neighbours would think it died of natural causes.

The neighbours returned and in conversation over the wall a few days later said "Do you know, a strange thing happened while we were away. Just before we left, our rabbit died and we buried it in the garden. But when we got back, someone had dug it up, washed and blow dried it! And then stuck it back in the cage!!"

blue thats the plan! :)

Yes Dark Water is very bizarre and left me feeling mind effed more than anything else.

I watched a film called 'Mum and Dad' which freaked me out a bit. It's not scary, just quite disturbing.

anychocswilldo · 13/08/2012 12:23

The original Woman in Black film is very scary, I couldn't sleep for a week after. I kept thinking that when I opened my eyes she would be stood there Shock the new one is creepy too. don't know why I watched it when I am terrified of her Then I saw The Ring at the cinema and it was horrific! The end of that film was so unexpected and just awful

SarryB · 13/08/2012 12:29

Someone caught an STD from a packet of ketchup at our local MacDonalds. I refuse to eat there now.

LordOfThe5Rings · 13/08/2012 12:36

What happens in Mum and Dad?

The Ring 2 disturbed me greatly. Also the Silent Hill movie especially at the end.

worldgonecrazy · 13/08/2012 12:49

sarryB I have to ask, what was the person doing with the ketchup in order to catch a sexually transmitted disease?

SarryB · 13/08/2012 12:56

Apparently, there was semen in the ketchup and they caught herpes :/

Can you get genital herpes on your face??

SarryB · 13/08/2012 12:59

That Slender Man thing really scares me. I think I saw one when I was about 4, in the bathroom in my dads house.

Now, stop distracting me with this silly thread, I'm supposed to be packing for a holiday!

Tangointhenight · 13/08/2012 13:00

What about the Amityville horror? young man Ronald DeFeo shoots his whole family dead in their sleep, then new owners of the house are terrorised by voices, films freaked me but the story of the murders is horrific!!

worldgonecrazy · 13/08/2012 14:17

Grin sarraby that's their story and they're sticking to it! Wink

Moominsarescary · 13/08/2012 14:47

Sounds like something my twat ex would say when really he was just a cheat!

You can get it on the mouth, you can't get herpes from semen though. Skin to skin contact, not bodily fluids
