I need to lose weight.

I have done 30 minutes on the Wii every day for 12 days, missing one, then 2 days of 1 hour 7 minutes.

How much exercise do I really need to do to actually start losing weight? It can't all be about the food I eat as I don't eat very much but must be eating the wrong stuff.

Salads, crackers, cottage cheese, dips, cereal, bananas, pears, cereals, cooked dinner at night.

wii fit itself not great for weight loss, EA personal trainer much better I think

eat less after 6pm, try to have more through the day

justallovertheplace · 25/04/2010 19:22

12 days isn't long enough to see a result though, which is why so many people give up thinking 'the hell with it, it's not working.' It will be doing you the world of good. I would say from your list, you could be consuming a lot more sugar than you may realise though

Squidmission · 25/04/2010 19:23

Unfortunately weight loss is mostly about food but exercise will speed up weight loss and make you fit.

Try to work out hoew many calories you're eating in a day. Weigh out your cereal and check your portions at dinner. You may be eating healthy but too much.

BooBooChicken · 25/04/2010 19:25

i think its defo more about the food that you take in than the exercise you do. perhaps you are not eating enough of the right foods?
i do slimming world and at the moment am doing no exercise but still lose 1-2 lbs a week, 2.5 st so far .

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 25/04/2010 19:25

I do yoga, balance exercise, aerobic exercises and muscles exercises.

Today I did 2 lots of stepping exercises and 3 lots of running including a 5232m run.

I need a meal plan I think.

How the hell do you run with a wii??

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 25/04/2010 19:26

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 25/04/2010 19:27

You run on the spot though today I did run round the room a bit.

justallovertheplace · 25/04/2010 19:28

That's not running though is it? If you want to run, the weather is fabulous, and will lift your mood too. I hate running but if I had the opportunity I would far rather be outside. The more you do it, the more you will want to do it as well

duckyfuzz · 25/04/2010 19:29

but the running doesn't really compare with 'real' running as I found when I confidently stepped out to do 5k last summer, havign done it easily on wii and the stepping isn't too strenuous either, but both will tone you up, and wii weighs heavy

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 25/04/2010 19:31

well, I can't run outside and this is good for me.

Believe me when you are running for 2 lots of 20 minutes then 30 minutes it feels real.

Of course, I meant advis me.

You need to make sure you are eating plenty of protein and not too many refined carbs.

Wii not a bad start (certainly better than sitting on sofa ) but you need to really push yourseld. EA active (as already mentioned) is better for that. And frankly, DVDs are better in general as they force you to pick the pace up, whereas there is too much faffing around between exercises with the wii, ao you loose momentum.

30 Day Shred or Billy Blanks Boot Camp or Davina all have proper workouts that will help you build muscle and therefore burn more calories all the time. Combined with some pilates or similar for toning and running for calorie burning you should have a good workout. Running outside is the best calorie burner you can get. (depends what pace you run at and how heavy you are - I can burn 1000 calories in an hours running.)

duckyfuzz · 25/04/2010 19:38

I used wii fit for a year, no difference,ea active sports for 2 weeks, loads of comments

that is my advice - yes wii fit is better than nothing, but running on a treadmill burns less than 10 cals a minute, so running round the sitting room will be far less

duckyfuzz · 25/04/2010 19:38

x posts notyummy

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 25/04/2010 19:39

What is EA Active?

SO not confident to run in the day and to scared to run at night.

I really want to keep on it with the Wii as I have tried DVD's and not kept it up for very long. The Wii I have done for 2 weeks and I only missed one day because I literally didn't have half an hour that day.

I will carry on and hang in there but would like to know how long it will be before I see a start on the eight loss?

I also need to get ideas for what to eat as I love salads but it doesn't always fill me up enough.

duckyfuzz · 25/04/2010 19:46

hope you like it, I found it far more intense than wii fit

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/04/2010 19:53

Fab - EA Active is a 'game' for the Wii. I must start using it again because when I used it before I really started to tone up and felt much fitter and stronger.

I still use the Yoga on the Wiifit though as I find that very good for flexibility.

Nemofish · 25/04/2010 19:54

Hey Fab, what do you usually drink? Stuff like lucozade, ribena or fizzy drinks is hugely sugary and calorific. What about alcohol? It ain't called a beer belly for nothing (not that I'm saying you have one).

I love the Wii too, I've put ea fitness one on my amazon wishlist (mmm amazon wishlist...)

I am going to cut out the mountains of jaffa cakes that I eat, fruit only for snacks, occasional treat, and have cereal for dinner. Will be having a good lunch though, not just half a ryvita and 2 grapes (that's what my mum used to have...)

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 25/04/2010 19:54

TBH I am surprised I have kept on with the Wii and how much I am doing as I am normally rubbish. I want to be able to wear some of my clothes again, be able to feel fitter and not like a middle aged hag.
