I’m making a proper effort to lose a stone before Christmas and wondered if anyone else is in the same boat and wants to join in for a bit of mutual support.

I’m currently 13st and 5ft, so I definitely have the weight to lose, and my main downfall is—without a doubt—the evening snacking. Chocolate, crisps, cake... if it's in the cupboard, I will eat it!
I really need to rein it in, cut down the junk, and start swapping in some healthier options. I feel like having a clear target between now and Christmas will give me something proper to focus on, and losing a stone would make such a difference to how I feel in my clothes and about myself.

I'm using Nutracheck and plan on doing some exercise as often as I can squeeze it in.

Yea I like a clear date, be it a holiday or event like Christmas. A stone by Christmas is certainly doable. My downfall is also after dinner snacking. So I have a diet soda and/or gherkins to give me something to munch on. My goal is a kg a week, which would be almost two stone by Xmas! I’m doing MFP and weigh/measure everything that’s not from a packet with calories on it. I’m big on homemade soup at the moment. Nutritious and fresh and low calorie and filling!

achristmaswish · 27/09/2026 17:31

@mondaytosunday thanks for keeping me company. Soup is a great idea especially this time of year with the dark nights and weather starting to change. Think I'll have a rummage in the fridge to see what I've got and make a big pot of soup tomorrow.

Can I join?

My weightloss has plateued recently. Have lost 5 1/2 stone in the last year through diet and exercise but have been messing around with going up and down the same 5-6lbs for the last month. My snacking/stress eating has become problematic!

Will weigh myself in the morning and report back on my xmas goal. It'll probably be just over a stone I want to lose.

achristmaswish · 28/09/2026 22:06

Didn't get round to making soup today. Think I'm coming down with this flu thing that's going around feeling sore and run down. On the plus side closed the kitchen tonight with 300 calories left.

@ThinksALot 5 and a half stone is brilliant well done. What exercise did you do?

Thank you! I started with just walking lots and lifting weights 2-3 times per week. After about 6 months of that I upped the intensity and cardio level. I now run 2-3 times a week (usually a short run, 5k and a longer run between 7-10k), I lift weights twice a week and do two other gym classes/team sports. The exercise has really helped me manage my stress levels which helps me not eat so much crap!

ThinksALot · 29/09/2026 07:01

So I weighed in this morning at 12 stone 1lb. I'd love to be 10 stone 12lbs (a healthy BMI).

I slept terribly last night, and know I have a full on day at work, so I'll be tempted to eat lots of chocolate. Have packed healthier snacks, so I can hopefully avoid the vending machine.

Going away for the weekend, so hoping to have reached the target by then - if I can lose this last 10lbs I’ll have lost literally half my bodyweight and I really need it gone!

AInightingale · 29/09/2026 13:12

Lost weight after Christmas last year by time restricted eating, ie skipping breakfast and having two good meals at about 12 and 6 pm. It was easier than it sounds because I liked the routine. I am also a terrible evening snacker but cutting out anything sugary or overly carby during the day really helped - there is such a thing as the 'carb monster' which is triggered by the slightest bit of sugar and creates an immediate craving for more, I find. I also had a dandelion tea in the evening and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in water before bed. I realise that sounds absolutely disgusting, but again the routine of it was helpful.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 29/09/2026 15:32

I’m in! Currently 12 stone 4lbs. I’ve already lost a stone but another before Christmas would be great! Thanks for starting this OP.

achristmaswish · 29/09/2026 20:09

@GhoulWithADragonTattoo welcome and well done on already losing a stone.

@AInightingale the cider vinegar sounds yuck tbh. Well done on your weight loss and your right finding a routine that works for you personally is the key.

@HesterLeggatt I'm sure you will lose the last few pounds. We are all here to lean on when you need us.

@ThinksALot hope you managed to dodge the vending machine today. Thanks for sharing what exercise you do. I've started walking just need to add in weights especially for my bingo wings.

Managed to stick to my calories again today and went for a hours walk after work this evening. Popped into the shops on my lunch break looking for new jeans and a top honestly wished I hadn't bothered nothing fitted or looked right, ended up feeling ashamed and embarrassed that I've let myself get like this. Ended up treating myself to a new housecoat in Tesco so that's something I suppose.

Sorry to hear you had a bad shopping experience @achristmaswish. I do think jeans are the hardest clothing item to find - sizes and styles vary so much! Well done for staying in your calorie target! You're on a roll!

Today was bad. I ventured to the vending machine twice...but knew it would be challenging as I was so tired. I'm feeling less anxious tonight, so I'm hoping for a better night's sleep and therefore a better day of food choices tomorrow. Onwards and upwards! If I don't get back on track tomorrow, I will need to go back to calorie counting using my fitness pal. Might be the kick I need.

achristmaswish · 30/09/2026 22:08

@ThinksALot think I will leave jeans for now and stick with my comfy elasticated leggings. I hope you had a good sleep last night and today was a better day for you with the vending machines. I'm the same lack of sleep makes me hit the chocolate, carbs and everything else that's not great for me.

Managed to stick to my calories again today. Called in sick to work as this flu type bug has gotten worse. Spent the day in bed trying to rest watching a program from the 70s called Robins Nest enjoying it so far. Hope everyone has gotten on well today.

I miss maternity jeans - they're sooo comfy!

Today was better than yesterday but still not amazing food-wise (I have exercised though), so I've weighed and calorie counted my breakfast, lunch and snacks to take to work tomorrow to keep me on track. All logged on my fitness pal - it is an eye opener when you haven't used it in a while. Is that piece of bread with my soup really worth it?!

How is everyone else doing?

Sorry to hear you've been poorly. There's so much going around!!

BluebellBeth · 30/09/2026 22:28

I could defo do with losing 2/3 stone. I'm about 5ft 3 and weighed just over 12 stone last time I dared look. I'm terrible for evening snacking too, I always want a nice treat after dinner and often get hungry at 9/10pm. I don't do breakfast, probably don't eat the right stuff at lunch, have a decent dinner, barely exercise. I have the time, just not the energy as I'm a carer and it absolutely drains me some days.

achristmaswish · 30/09/2026 22:30

@ThinksALot we are in bug season now for sure. Oh you have just remembered me about maternity jeans mine were so comfy I lived in them. I might have a little Google for maternity jeans 🤣 Glad you had a better day. Agree tracking calories is an eye opener. I had toast with cheese for breakfast this morning and it really wasn't worth the amount of calories won't be having that for a while now 🤣

Welcome @BluebellBeth sorry things are tough for you. Tbh I would forget about exercise for now and grab all the rest you can get.

RaraRachael · 30/09/2026 22:56

I'd like to join.
Normally when I've tried to lose weight I go down roughly a pound per week. I got down to 10.2 and was happy with that.
Now it's impossible. I started at 11.4 but go up and down to 11.2 like a yoyo. I'm going to the gym twice a week and eating sensibly.

I've no idea why I just can't shift the weight this time.

achristmaswish · 30/09/2026 23:25

Welcome @RaraRachael I can see why you would find that annoying. Do you track what your eating to see if anything could be swapped.
