How to start “jags”?

I’ve tired EVERYTHING as early forties woman for the last two years and my weight just seems to creep up. I’m thirteen stone something and five foot 7. I’m just greedy and now very confused! No idea how or where to start - advice on this please, and also your success/horror stories? Thank you 🙏

I started the jags about a month ago (Wegovy). My BMI was around 28 but I have also been told I am prediabetic. I went to Bolt Pharmacy. Filled out a short form and sent in some photos. Medication arrived about 5 days later. There are generally codes floating around for all the main providers so check that before you order as it can save you a bit of money for the first month. I paid £59 for first month but it’s now up to £109 in the second month, but I have upped the dose a bit.

@ownedbymydogsno contradictions, bizarre or otherwise in my two posts. The first says that most pharmacies will expect a BMI of 30 (or 27 with conditions) for patients new to weight loss medication. The second post then names the two pharmacies that will prescribe off licence at BMI 25+ with no other criteria needed. No contradiction there at all.

This is all great advice - thank you! I am off work tomorrow so I will try to look at options then. It’s exciting and scary at the same time 🕰️

Update: I have ordered Wegovy and it’s arriving tomorrow! What next….?!

Check the box and contents when it arrives. I always check prescription medication to make sure it’s the right thing at the right dose and in date. Then grab the paper information leaflet and put the pen in the fridge.

Read the paper info leaflet, decide on a day and time to start and then go for it. Join the Sept starters thread for ongoing chit chat with people at about the same point in the process as you will be. Good luck with it all. Hopefully it will work well for you!

@SilenceInsideI’m excited to start the journey! I’ve tried so hard over the last couple of years and nothing is budging the weight so I feel this is the right option at this time. I’ve probably spent £600 on PTs who just whack you on a whole load of protein and really restricted foods and training a million times a week and all of it is unsustainable. I just need to switch off the food noise for a while

Thank you @LoopyGremlin. I finally braved the scales this morning and my BMI is 29.6. Looking forward to seeing that coming down! Well done to you on your weight loss so far. How are you finding it? Has it stopped the food noise?

@hiddeneverythin It has definitely cut down the food noise. I’m normally a big chocolate eater and couldn’t walk by chocolate in the kitchen but I don’t have any desire for it now!

@LoopyGremlinoh thats good. I banned myself from chocolate for a year supposedly but I failed miserably mid July and haven’t stopped eating it since!

When ut arrives take a photo of your box with the prescription label. You'll need it if you move provider next month. I gave an album in my phone just for those photos.

@worldsgonemadnowam I likely to have to change providers? I have signed up for six months 🤯 I took my first dose last night and wondering when I’m likely to feel anything xx

@hiddeneverythin people change providers to save (potentially a lot) of money. Subscriptions tend to get much more expensive in the second and subsequent months. Most pharmacies are also more expensive once you've not got the new customer initial discount. So you don't have to change pharmacies, but a lot of people do to get the lower prices.

In terms of what happens next, the amount of Wegovy in your blood stream will gradually increase over the next 2 to 3 days until it's at its peak. Then the amount in your system will start to fall until about half of it is left by the time you come to do the next injection. So you may start to feel the effects on your appetite over the next day or two. Or, you may need to wait for the second or subsequent doses to build up the amount in your system before you start to notice the effects.
