The winter weight is lingering

WhatHappenedHereMate · 07/02/2026 21:41

I weighed myself this morning and was shocked to discover that the 2 kg I put on over Christmas has been joined by another kg.

I’m mid 40s and definitely peri menopausal, so I am keen not to let my weight creep up. I need to act now! Anyone want to join me?

I enjoy exercise. I eat healthily. I just need to eat a bit less of it! 😳

GW: 64kg

What is GW?

I started today, having noticed some of my clothes are much tighter. I've gained 4 kilos over winter.

I don't have the patience to calorie count so instead, I'll cut out biscuits, crisps and alcohol from today. Less rice & pasta.

And I've signed up to run a charity 10k at the end of May so will increase my activity levels. It would be easier if it stopped raining though. 🌧🌧

FiveShelties · 08/02/2026 01:57

Yes, my Christmas started 1st December and only stopped on 2nd February😁 so back to the diet otherwise it will be xmas 2026.

2nd Feb weight 150 pounds (68.0kg)
8th Feb weight 147 pounds (66.7kg)

Target. 140 pounds. 63.5kgs

FiveShelties · 08/02/2026 01:58

GW = Goal Weight😁

WhatHappenedHereMate · 08/02/2026 08:22

Hi! Good to have some people here in a similar situation.

it’s actually not raining this morning! 😮

OP posts:
Meadowfinch · 08/02/2026 08:27

CW 71kg
GW 65kg

And you're right, it's not raining. Time for a jog round the village 😁

FiveShelties · 08/02/2026 08:31

It is definitely not raining here, 29C and we are short of water.

I have just been reading about the weather and it seems particularly grim at the moment. I am a Lancastrian now living in NZ so well used to wet winters.😁

WhatHappenedHereMate · 13/02/2026 18:27

How’s the week gone?

I’ve eaten fine but haven’t made it to the gym.

WhatHappenedHereMate · 14/02/2026 08:51

Posting here for accountability. Weighed in this morning.
SW: 67.2kg
CW: 66.3kg
GW: 64kg

I'm really pleased with that. It’s half term now so I’ll be a bit out of routine with eating etc but hopefully can just continue to eat like a normal person!

OP posts:
HettyCletter · 14/02/2026 18:42

Can I join you? We seem to have similar start/current/goal weights.

SW (4/2): 67.4kg
CW: 64.45kg
GW: 59kg

How are you all approaching the weight loss? I’m counting calories, as it’s the only thing that works for me. I’d love to be the sort of person that could do IF, but I’d be a hangry wreck by the time I was allowed to eat, and then I’d use my eating window to consume about 3000 calories as quickly as I could, which I suspect would lead to weight gain rather than loss…

jenthehen · 14/02/2026 18:45

Can I join? I need accountability. I’m 54, hypothyroid and menopausal and it’s not budging. I walk, gym and Pilates but it’s not working on weight loss although I do feel fitter and stronger.
sw 98.8 kg

WhatHappenedHereMate · 15/02/2026 08:18

All joiners very welcome 🥰

OP posts:
WhatHappenedHereMate · 15/02/2026 08:23

I’m reducing my portions and trying to cut back on cake 🤣. I try not to be too restrictive because I’ve worked hard to heal my relationship with food (binge eating).

It’s the most miserable morning where I am 😩

I”m in. Two horrendously stressful years, mostly involving loved ones and cancer (one made it; one did not) and I have Eaten All the Crisps and have Drunk All the Wine. Hit SW 74.6 kg on 24th Jan; 73.2 yesterday. GW will be around 67 kg.

Aiming for move more (grief just leaves you like a wrung-out dish cloth) and eating less. Counting calories in lunch (the soup season is so good for this) and cutting back on wine.

Lemonsole · 15/02/2026 08:38

Oh, and I’m 54, so the weight just jumps on board as soon as I sniff a Pringle, while losing 0.5 kg a week is a good rate

DeafLeppard · 15/02/2026 08:43

Yes, I had a bit of a wake up call before Christmas when it was very clear that the summer holiday weight had gone nowhere, and had added a few recruits. I’ve been back using MyFitnessPal to record everything and now have lost just under a stone and within 2lbs of goal weight.

Reduced booze consumption and made an effort to be active - I cycle most places but have tried to add in a couple of runs when my hip plays ball. But definitely it’s been honest about what I have been eating - and a few swaps such as sandwiches for soup at lunch - have made the difference.

As someone who is probably in the perimenopause zone, the above has shown me that actually for me it’s changed nothing about weight loss. It’s still eat less move more.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/02/2026 10:44

I seem to have an annual cycle where I can lose from spring to autumn then gain it back in the winter. Cold, tasteless, imported salads have zero appeal in cold, grey weather and I want carbs, hearty, warming satisfying carbs.

I'm small, I exercise a lot (weights, running, walking) and there just seems to be no slack left to lose weight without making food totally joyless. My only regular sweet treat is small bars of dark chocolate. I rarely drink alcohol. There's very little to sacrifice.

Oh, and I also have ravenous teenagers that need constant filling with different food to me which really doesn't help!

WhatHappenedHereMate · 17/02/2026 18:26

This week has been a bit tougher so far. Just in terms of those “extras” which add up 😬. My DC made a cinnamon swirl loaf cake yesterday and then I’ve eaten one too many pancakes today!

I’m just trying to eat well at meal times and keep my head in the long game. But I’m definitely not in a calorie deficit so won’t be losing this week.

OP posts:
HettyCletter · 17/02/2026 18:29

I’ve done ok this week, though could have been better. We’ve had a lot of illness in the family this week and it’s led to me making a couple of less than ideal food choices. But I’m confident I’ve still lost a little bit, just not as much as I’d hoped. I weigh in on Wednesdays so will see what the scales say tomorrow!

thislittlebird · 18/02/2026 16:48

Hello all, can I join? I need to get a grip on my weight. Coming up to 2 years since i had my baby at nearly 41 and i wanted to get back to my pre baby weight (or lower!) before I turn 43 in a few months and I am definitely perimenopausal so keen to shift some of this sharpish.

Will bite the bullet and weigh myself tomorrow!

Meadowfinch · 19/02/2026 13:22

CW now 70kg so down 1kg. My skirts are definitely looser round the waist.

I've avoided butter/cream/alcohol/cake completely. Had biscuits once in the last 11 days.

WhatHappenedHereMate · 19/02/2026 18:30

All new posters very welcome here.

We had a massive lunch out today 😬. No regrets because it was a lovely family experience but I’ll probably not even step on the scales for a good few days!

OP posts:
thislittlebird · 20/02/2026 15:18

I've still not weighed myself or started, I need some new scales and haven't got round to ordering them. Trying to eat all the chocolate, crisps etc in the house so they're not here to snack on because I really do struggle to resist when these things are in the house. Would like to start eating better this weekend.

jenthehen · 22/02/2026 14:05

I’m coming on to post a weigh I. Even though I’m gutted to say I haven’t lost. Still 98kg even after my fitness pal calorie tracking to 1500kc a day, 2 Pilates sessions and 2 weights, elliptical 30 mins, cycling 6km and upping my daily steps. Not giving up though. Heading out for another hilly walk !

WhatHappenedHereMate · 28/02/2026 08:59

Sorry I’ve been quiet on here. Half term wasn’t the best eating-wise but it’s been much more normal this week.
0.3kg loss since last weigh in, so I’ll take that.

SW: 67.2kg
CW: 66kg
GW: 64kg

How’s everyone else doing?

OP posts:
thislittlebird · 01/03/2026 08:06

I would also take that @WhatHappenedHereMate

I think the last week was my first where I properly watched what I eat, but then yesterday I felt quite ill (nursery germs) and ate a lot more so i've gained. It's not the best start.

SW: 63.9kg
GW: 57kg

I'm 42 and 5'1 and weight collects around my upper body, I'd really like to get rid of some of this before perimenopause intensifies further. Holiday is now booked for June 14th so I really do need to try to get a grip on it all.
