The winter weight is lingering

I weighed myself this morning and was shocked to discover that the 2 kg I put on over Christmas has been joined by another kg.

I’m mid 40s and definitely peri menopausal, so I am keen not to let my weight creep up. I need to act now! Anyone want to join me?

I enjoy exercise. I eat healthily. I just need to eat a bit less of it! 😳

CW: 67.2kg
GW: 64kg

Well done @WhatHappenedHereMate!

I’m doing ok - my fitness is definitely improving due to all the walking I’m doing (I live in a hilly area!).

SW 67.4kg
CW 63.2kg
GW 59kg

So I’m exactly half way to goal!

thislittlebird · 02/03/2026 20:55

How long have you been at it for @HettyCletter? I'd love to be half way!

I ate fairly well today, with not too many calories. Helped along by one meal replacement shake before a work out.

Proteinpudding · 03/03/2026 22:07

A few of the posters in here seem to be similar weight + goal weight to me (mid 60s kgs and aiming to lose 5-10kg) would any of you in here mind sharing what sort of calorie targets you're having success with?
I've been calorie counting and I'm sure I'm eating a lot less than I had been before, but the scales aren't changing. I'm looking at whether to reduce further and it would be great to have an idea of what is realistic. FWIW I'm 44, 5ft 3 and 62kg. I've been averaging 1600 a day since Jan but only down 1kg and tbh I'm not even sure that's lost or just fluctuations! The 1600 includes lower days and then slightly higher at weekends, tracking absolutely everything.

WhatHappenedHereMate · 04/03/2026 19:37

Thank you @HettyCletterand @thislittlebird

I’m feeling bloated this week as I’m on my period but eating well. I’m eating out on Friday, Saturday AND Sunday this weekend 😬. Just the way it’s fallen with a social meet up with friends and then family birthdays. But I will just try to eat sensibly around the meals out and not spiral into silly eating at other meals.

I’m finding the change in the weather has helped my eating and my mood in general.

The change in weather has helped me too @WhatHappenedHereMate but now it’s gone back to grey, miserable rain and cloud all day again.

I’ve lost no weight as far as I can see, will weigh in on Monday properly. I probably need to cut my calories further and I do struggle to find time to workout on my working days.

@Proteinpudding there are calculators that can tell you how many cals you need for deficit based on your stats. I’m a bit shorter than you and it told me I need 1400 per day roughly for loss with moderate exercise. I aim for 1400 per day at the moment and so far no change. I’m finding it harder than I used to to cut calories, I’m assuming it’s peri hormones making things that bit harder than a couple of years back.

Proteinpudding · 06/03/2026 21:10

Thanks @thislittlebird , I'm aware of the online calculators but I'm a bit dubious how accurate they can be (eg how they define the activity levels) so it's useful to hear of other people's experiences.

I know I won't have lost this week as I've had some meals out, and even with sensible choices that'll be enough to push my average higher. I have been eating lots of fruit and veg and been hiking and the gym so I am reminding myself that I'm improving my health and building good habits at least!

thislittlebird · 06/03/2026 21:21

@Proteinpudding they gave me a range on the last one i tried so my guess is in need to be going lower than 1400 in the range. Calculator.net tells me less than the Superdrug website calculator, for example. In the past I would have success with 1200 or 1300 but I need to get down to that, I seem to want to eat quite often at the moment.

I don't think I'll have lost either, it would be nice not to gain. I would like to do something like 5:2 or similar but not sure I'll manage it.

I’m 5ft4 and just reached 9st 6 on around 1200-1400 calories a day. I usually had 200 calories spare from exercise as I cycle most days, and fit in a couple of runs as well. That gives me around 1-2lbs off a week and allows for the odd meal where I don’t count calories.

thislittlebird · 14/03/2026 13:23

Weighed in this morning…

SW: 63.9kg
CW: 62.3kg (need to double check this tomorrow because I only weighed in stones quickly and converted on google)
GW: 57kg

I’ve found it hard to get my calories down to a level where I’ll lose quicker but I’ll take a slow downward trajectory over no progress.

Didn’t get much exercise in this week because we had tradesmen here but I managed a 50 min strength and conditioning workout at home yesterday.

WhatHappenedHereMate · 14/03/2026 16:12

Well done @thislittlebird!! That’s great progress.

I’m not making much head way but trying to be gentle with myself.

OP posts:
thislittlebird · 15/03/2026 12:46

@WhatHappenedHereMate it’s really hard so gentle is definitely a good plan. I’ve been eating more than I’d planned tbh but maybe the things I’m choosing are making a difference too.

I weighted in again today and 62.3kg was correct (and that was after a chocolate ganache cookie, a pistachio croissant and lemon ice cream throughout the day 🙃, not the best choices lmao) so I’m happy with that. Need to keep it up this week.

Lemonsole · 03/04/2026 15:40

Back in again - how is it all going? The Easter holidays can be as big a calorie fest as Christmas. Less work; more eating 😳

I’m now 72.1 kg, having been 74.6 when I dared to get on the scales. It’s slow, so very slow, but happening.

thislittlebird · 03/04/2026 19:32

Well done @Lemonsole! it’s slow going over here too but I think any progress is good and we can be pleased.

my update is
SW: 63.9kg
CW: 61.1kg
GW: 57kg

It’s slower than weight loss I’ve had in the past but I’m fairly sure my messed up peri hormones are making me hungrier. I struggle not to eat for hours on end now, so I haven’t cut my calories right down but I have been trying to fit in dumbell workouts a few days per week at home.

A kebab (with chilli sauce) from one of 'those vans' will sort out your CW to GW - in one or two days. 🤢

thislittlebird · 23/04/2026 12:51

I know it's been quiet here but posting in case anyone else is still at it!

SW: 63.9kg
CW: 61.2kg
GW: 57kg

I've been sticking to my 1300-1500 calories mostly and doing dumbbell workouts throughout the week. Hopefully our flights aren't cancelled in June after all this effort.
