Chia seeds

Has anyone tried the chia seeds cinnamon and hot water on an empty stomach?
I've done it today and didn't feel hungry until about 3pm.
I'm not sure if you can do it every day?
I only fancied a salad so made a cucumber and mint one. With red onion and garlic etc. So low cal.
I'm having fish and roast vegetables for dinner.

I keep looking at chia seed pudding and I honestly don't think I could stomach them. Looks like a bush tucker trial, and I eat with my eyes.

If you don’t like the texture of the gloopy seeds you can blend them into the liquid instead of just soaking - it then sets like a smooth mousse. Both ways are great.

I definitely think you’re on to something here @LushLemonTart. I’ve been having chia seeds most mornings since I read your post & they definitely help with hunger pangs.

For me tho’ the best effect is much improved gut health - going more regularly & zero indigestion/heartburn. I haven’t had to take a Gaviscon tablet since I started the chia seeds. That’s incredible as I used to take at least one a night, often two.

Thank you for telling us about them.

Have bought a kilo so am well stocked up!

LushLemonTart · 23/08/2025 08:53

@MissNowt that's excellent news. Yes they definitely help with digestion. Full of fibre.

@LushLemonTart do you know if I could use flaxseed in the same way ?

I have a huge bag that I need to use up, and I am not sure how to.

I bought them thinking I could sprout them, but that really isn't working out well.

(I am so sure I used to sprout them some years ago but now I'm doubting myself if I bought the wrong seeds as they either go gloopy or dried out. )

So now I'm wondering if I can use them up in a similar way after soaking.

LushLemonTart · 23/08/2025 09:10

@Highlighta apparently yes.

Chia seeds

Will give that a try! I used to see a nutritionist, she told me chia and flax need to be freshly ground & consumed quickly to release & retain the omega 3. It looks like some grey gluey fish spawn but tastes ok if other things added.

LushLemonTart · 23/08/2025 10:57

Yes you can always blend it. I've done that.

Chia seeds are good for iron too I think.

I often have overnight mixed grains yoghurt for lunch. Just before eating, I add blueberries, pistachios, pomegranate and chia seeds (that way they aren’t gloopy). That’s eight different plants, different colours, plus protein, and keeps me going through a two-hour gym session and a long walk home, until my evening meal which can be as late as 11pm.

This sounds a bit like what I do, but better. which mixed grains please ? ☺️

CookingFatCat · 23/08/2025 12:11

Psyllium husk is also good for keeping the gut full.

Blended Chia, cacao, yoghurt, honey, splash of milk and frozen cherries is lovely as a healthy pudding or when a chocolate fix needed. I'll risk a migraine for this and definitely satiates.

LushLemonTart · 23/08/2025 22:43

Well been a good good day. I didn't feel hungry for ages. Had a boiled egg then a healthy tea/dinner. Haven't felt particularly hungry.
Snacked on a few cherry tomatoes.

Just found this thread and interested as I've just started making a shake of oats blended with yoghurt and chia seeds to try and help with weight loss.

Am I supposed to soak the chia seeds first?? I never knew this but the story PP posted about someone blending them into a smoothie and nearly dying has got me spooked.

I'd let them soak a while personally. I usually let them soak whilst showering etc. Some people soak them overnight.
