Chia seeds

Has anyone tried the chia seeds cinnamon and hot water on an empty stomach?
I've done it today and didn't feel hungry until about 3pm.
I'm not sure if you can do it every day?
I only fancied a salad so made a cucumber and mint one. With red onion and garlic etc. So low cal.
I'm having fish and roast vegetables for dinner.

I soak them in apple juice overnight then stir into Greek yoghurt for breakfast with raspberries/strawberries/blueberries

Do they keep you full for a while?

You’ve mentioned that a few times, is it meant to be a thing? I eat them because they’re incredibly nutritious, good for the digestion, and make a healthy dessert. I suppose they could help fill you up but it’s not going to be like taking ozempic or something.

Yes it's a thing

Well I’ve just put some in to soak so I will pay attention tomorrow to how much they fill me up!

Yes they do, I don’t feel hungry until lunchtime when I eat this.

TheCoralEagle · 08/08/2025 16:41

I've just tried this today.

I'm a semi-faster naturally and I never eat breakfast. So in the morning I just have water or coffee until lunch at 1pm (by which time I'm usually decently hungry). I am trying to lose weight though.

Today I made the drink - one tablespoon of chia seeds and a teaspoon of cinnamon powder in a mug of very warm water. Left it 15 minutes for the seeds to begin swelling then just downed it in a few gulps. It wasn't tasty but I found it very 'inoffensive' both in taste and texture. Just a cup of nothingness tbh.

Half an hour later and I felt like I'd eaten steak and chips - full and satisfied. My normal 1pm lunch time sailed by unnoticed and now - at 4.40pm - I'm just starting to feel hungry so I'm going to go and get something now and will probably eat for the first time today about 5pm...a full 4 hours later than usual for me 😮

I've had chia seeds many times in smoothies and sprinkled on yoghurt etc but never like this, as a drink with a decent amount of water and cinammon. I'm impressed and it seems like it could be a great, super-healthy weight loss aid.

LushLemonTart · 08/08/2025 16:46

@TheCoralEagle that's how I feel. I've done it today again. I've lost 5lb so far in a week. It'll slow right down now though. I don't have that much to lose really. Well I probably do but I don't want to lose much more than a stone.

Going to try this tomorrow, as I have 16kg to lose.

BusWankers · 08/08/2025 19:07

Is it better to do it when you're hungry or not hungry?

Well they swell up and so if they swell inside you I think it can be pretty uncomfortable and even cause constipation. It happened to a friend. She ended up having to have medical intervention. She's okay now but it wasn't very pleasant for her.

They’ve been soaked in water, so they have already swollen up, so they won’t swell up inside of you!

BrendaSmall · 08/08/2025 20:27

Every night I put 40g of porridge oats and a large desert spoon of chia seeds into a cup and add alpro protein chocolate milk, mix it and leave in the fridge overnight and eat it in the morning at 6 o clock it’s filling but it definitely doesn’t fill me up for hours, I’m ready to eat again by 09:30!

OddBoots · 08/08/2025 20:28

If you want something that is similar but swells quicker I have found Basil seeds treated in the same way very good, they have a slight natural sweetness so may not need the sweetener.

Gingercar · 08/08/2025 20:29

I have a desert spoon sprinkled (I soaked) on my greek yogurt every morning along with a few other seeds and berries. (then I spend all day picking them out of my teeth, but that’s another story). Can’t say they particularly stem my hunger or run through me. But they’re a good source of protein and fibre.

Supposed to be on an empty stomach.

@BrendaSmall maybe it's because you're mixing them with oats etc? Although like anything we're all different and react differently to foods.

I make a grain-free granola with nuts and seeds; 2 tbsp of dry chia seeds. In a big jar of granola, this is quite a minimal amount, but all adds to the goodness.

I’m still having the same quantity though of seeds

Jamfirstest · 08/08/2025 20:49

Ooh thank you @LushLemonTart have just tried my first cup of this. It was quite nice actually. Added a tiny bit (1/4tsp) of honey. Will report back 🤞.

How did it go food wise today?

I've not eaten much. I've had stuffed vine leaves and salad and small mars bar. A glass of skimmed milk a couple of coffees and plenty of water. That's all I wanted.

I soak mine in almond milk or coconut overnight and add fresh fuit/berries in the morning for some sweetness. Tastes nice like a pudding, but probably not as good for weight loss as water. I find it satisfying and the fibre is good for me.

MissNowt · 10/08/2025 07:39

Thanks for checking @LushLemonTart. Slightly derailed by an impromptu BBQ lunch at a pal’s house 🙄. Definitely wasn’t as hungry tho’. Am carrying on with it - hope it has as good results for me as you’re getting. 🤞

Well found out something interesting. Apparently chia seeds are good for lowering cortisol. So can help keep you calm. As well as diminishing cortisol tum. My stomach has gone down. It's my main problem area. It always has been.

I didn't eat as much yesterday but did have some cake (someone's birthday cake)
