2025 Weight Loss, what's your plan?

yummyscummymummy01 · 31/12/2024 20:54

I need to shed about two to three stone and am really stuck on what plan/ approach to follow. I've done SW successfully before but think I need a new approach to keep me interested.

So what's the plan for you? Please inspire me!

I did low carb last year and dropped a stone - might try that again.

GildedRage · 01/01/2025 04:56

I’ve always calorie counted. This time I’ve downloaded/bought the No Carb Challenge app.
I’ll need to find some fortitude just to get on the scale.

Journeyintomelody · 01/01/2025 06:25

Not eating between 6pm and 6am.
High protein and fat in the morning.
Low carb (combine any carbs with fibre), switch starchy carbs for legumes.
Main meal at lunchtime and lighter meal in evening
No liquid calories
Chocolate buttons in a tin by the coffee jar, for when I want something sweet. (Two or three chocolate buttons has less calories than a banana, or yogurt &honey etc.)
Sensible portion sizes.
Stay hydrated.
The first instance I feel hungry, say in my head "if you were on ozempic you wouldn't feel hungry now" that keeps me going until a meal time.
Don't keep tempting foods such as peanut butter (I could eat from the jar) on the cupboards
Go to snack if needed cottage cheese.

Poisonwood · 01/01/2025 06:38

The things that helped me the most at the start (lost 40lbs in 2024, 28 still to go), were stopping snacking completely, and yoga.
Now - I’m generally OMAD, still don’t snack, swim, walk, daily yoga.

Every time you want to reach for a snack have a cup of something hot, makes you feel like you’ve had something. It doesn’t take long to change the habit but it makes a huge difference.

WeAreTheThirteen · 01/01/2025 10:10

Calorie counting for me. I use mfp to log everything. Smaller portions, more fruit and veg, no snacking. It works when I stick to it but I stopped tracking during December and have put half a stone on.

LegoTherapy · 01/01/2025 11:36

I lost 2.5stone by eating better, less junk, no eating after 6/7pm and walking a minimum of 5 miles a day. I have to do that walk anyway because I don't drive. I did calorie count and used my fitness pal for around a year. I worked out my tdee and ate around 1700 calories a day. I'm now maintaining between 8st 6lb and 8st 10lb because the habits have become so ingrained. I do eat after dinner but not much and don't calorie count anymore.

EyUpMiDuck · 01/01/2025 12:08

@LegoTherapy Can I ask how tall you are? I'm a similar weight to you, but trying to lose around 7 pounds. However, I'm not losing any weight on approx 1200 calories a day (occasionally I have up to 1400, but never above that).

I find it really interesting that you are able to eat more than me, so I'm looking to learn from what is working for other people!

LegoTherapy · 01/01/2025 12:10

@EyUpMiDuck excellent user name. I'm 5ft 3in if I pull myself as tall as possible. I walk loads and rarely sit down. My average is 8 miles a day Monday to Friday. I'm 48 and on HRT.

yummyscummymummy01 · 01/01/2025 12:18

I'm thinking of calorie counting too (cheap, cheerful and not complicated but am not sure if the best way to track it yet. Am dreading getting on the scales as know it will be a shock 🤦🏻‍♀️

Calorie counting using nutracheck app. Don't eat until 1pm and be finished eating by 9pm so two meals a day and a treat at night. 12k steps a day.

Peanut butter’s one of the best, protein rich foods out there!

CouchSpud · 01/01/2025 12:31

Intermittent Fasting, I don’t eat until half 12ish, then stop eating at 7.

I’m am cutting out UPF this year and working towards a more plant based diet.

I’m 10st and would like to lose 1.5st. I’m 5’4.

LegoTherapy · 01/01/2025 12:34

I eat all the carbs. Carbs are my main source of calories. I've upped protein but carbs are my go to. Pizza, pasta, bread, porridge oats. I eat homemade bread toast or porridge for breakfast. Lunch is half a pot of red pepper hummus with half a box of Crosta and mollica breadsticks. Dinner is whatever I fancy. I eat crisps and chocolate. Balance is what I aim for.

OTannenbaumOTannenbaum · 01/01/2025 13:14

Calorie counting. Sensible food choices. Walking and Zumba at home.
And a new one ---> being kind to myself. It sounds so clichéd. But for the first time ever, I'm not shaming myself into losing weight (looking at awful photos of me), not giving myself "rewards" for reaching "goal weights". I'm going to do all that reward stuff anyway as part of looking after myself (facials / nails / etc). So basically stop putting myself down over it and putting on so much pressure on myself. I know what I need to eat, I know I need to walk (which I love), and it won't be perfect but I'll get there.

Yep, but I eat it by the jar! 😋 No self control

GildedRage · 01/01/2025 14:43

@yummyscummymummy01 cronometer and nutricheck are much more accurate than MFP.
i especially like cronometer, but I’m not in the UK.
the my food one is loaded with fake entries. Ambiguous data (is the mince raw or cooked same with potato) AND legally labels can be off by 10%.

Andtheworldwentwhite · 01/01/2025 15:35

I have lost over three stone in the last year. I did it by calorie counting everything that went into my mouth. I also go to the gym everyday

socks1107 · 01/01/2025 15:54

I've lost three stone this year calorie counting. Will
Continue for the last two and maintenance

OldEarAche · 01/01/2025 16:06

I need to lose about 6kg that I've put on due to ill health. I can't exercise yet so it has to be from food.

Main plan is to stop snacking as I'm a prolific snacker. 2 meals a day, low carb, cut out all crap (crisps/chocolate/cake/sweets!).

merryandbrightdelight · 01/01/2025 16:25

Can I ask how calorie counting works? So I download the app and then what from there?

I want to shift 3 stone, I'm 5ft 4 and last time I checked I was 13 and a half stone. Don't want to get on the scales because it'll set my anxiety off, but I will get on them when I feel like something is working.

chalkyc2 · 01/01/2025 16:30

I have 12-15kg to shift and I think I'm going back to my tried and tested no snacks no booze no sugar low carb plan. It works and it is loosely based on Fast 800 principles. It's also hard but not awful.

But I need to get my head in the right place. I've been on this journey since spring 2023. I was 50kg down in early summer 2024....but now I'm only 40kg down since a lack of focus and snacking crept in. And this time it's not going to be the same old yo-yo, it's really not!

CouchSpud · 01/01/2025 16:45

Journeyintomelody · 01/01/2025 13:16

Me too!… It’s better than eating nutella 😂

I get the pure nut ones, with no sugar.

OldEarAche · 01/01/2025 16:48

My self control is also bad!

I love honey roasted cashew nuts but I've just had to get Dp to take the pot away before I finish them 😂

GildedRage · 01/01/2025 17:44

@OldEarAche my type of nibbly item that i nibble on all day even if i say i will only eat a few, i end up eating nuts by the fist full.
my am weigh in was worse than expected.
the food app was okay but i really had to measure and double check using a second app (cronometer) the no carb challenge app said the breakfast was 339 calories but my eggs must be much bigger as 2 eggs brought the calorie count over 386. so i double checked and cut the eggs back so the meal was 339 calories.
i'm too old to not be diligent, for me to weight i need to monitor the calories carefully...and stay motivated long term.

Cottonheadedninhymuggins · 01/01/2025 19:55

Calorie counting I think and upping my steps. I am thinking about joining team RH. I need to be accountable and by paying someone every month, it keeps me focussed and hopefully on track. I am not sure about weight watchers and slimming world. Anyone got any recommendations?
