Hi all

Struggling to get 5th dose out of mounjaro pen anyone help please?

Do you twist hard (trying to get past 0 upwards) with a needle on please?

Been twisting hard but can't get it to move or press down button

Got it out. No needle and used a pair of pliers and it twisted easily.

So you had no needle on end and used pliers to twist (like did for doses 1-4) and then was able to put needle back on to get dose out?

It's not safe to reuse a syringe for a second dose, you will introduce bacteria and could end up with an infection.

I've been getting the bonus dose out with a standard (short) medical grade syringe which I bought from Amazon. They are a tiny bit thicker but the same length as the MJ syringes.

I bought some extra needles so put a fresh one on.

Just did this today. With no needle on I twisted really hard in the usual direction but it wouldn’t budge. Got some pliers put those on the end of the plunger, held the pen part and twisted the pliers. That shifted it quite easily for a full dose. There was still a bit left so twisted again, changed needle, and injected a bit more. I’m moving up from 2.5 to 5ml so I think the extra bit will be a useful titration. Got an extra 100 needles so a new needle every time is no issue.

I used a syringe that I had for my diabetic cat! Was very easy.

Thanks everyone good to know there's a couple of ways. Why do they include this dose then make it difficult to get out?!

My understanding is that it's there as back up in case the priming dose each week leaks too much to make sure you still get the full 0.6 X 4.

Can anyone share a link of the extra needles you have bought, please?

If you go to the Continuing Mounjaro" thread there is a link in the header. The needles are identical to the ones supplied by Boots (4mm).

Hi does this look right? I've just had my 4th dose so this is the bonus one. It seems like an awful lot! Not complaining but just curious, I hope I've been doing this correctly.

@Snozzlemaid thank you! I managed to get my bonus dose out today! Still can't remember if the window dial said 1 or 0 or anything at all, but I'm pretty sure I did it correctly. I've been going to boxing classes recently so I'm crediting the hard twist to that - found it fairly easy after the initial breaking sound!

I am on my 3rd week of 2.5 mounjaro, I have been trying to get loads of info on the 5th dose (saving cash haha) I have bought the needles that you screw on like what they come with, if I do manage to twist it to apply the dose, do I just take it all?? Is it a proper dose?? Just confused reading and watching posts heeeeellp

Does anybody know if it's dangerous to use the pen after 6 weeks? I've still a bonus dose left (I've been using 2.5mg instead of 5mg) as it's worked so well.

The expiry after you've used it once is 30 days, 6 weeks is 42 days so that's significantly past the expiry date. Once the pen seal has been perforated then air and potentially germs can enter. So the risk is that the medicine starts to degrade and become less effective and that it may become contaminated with bacteria. If the liquid in the pen is cloudy do not use it.

I personally would not risk it. No one should be advising you to risk it either.

I've only used syringes so not certain you can get it all out using the hard twist.
But when extracting the last bit with a syringe I'm generally getting 0.65ml of liquid out, so slightly more than a full dose of 0.6ml.

Ahh thanks for that, I have bought syringes as well so could use that way, I may try to see if needle ok now I know you can use it

I've used just the standard twist-on needles, and a hard twist on the pen, and I've got all of the bonus dose out.

I did it without a needle on and initially yes hard but once you've shifted it a little it goes back n forth easily, just take your time and it's worth it

Hi all, sorry to be slow but how do I twist the pen to get the extra dose? Do I turn it to number 1 in the usual way and then keep twisting further?
