Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes 👍

@SingaporeSlinky 😂I'd be eating the plate!

Fairly on track today:
B - blueberries, yoghurt, seeds + extra banana as needed something before 10km run.
L - leftover cod, roast veg & spanish rice grains 1/2 pouch
D - who knows. I'm going out out this evening. And it's not Dry January anymore. Moderation is impossible for me. Hope I don't get tempted back on the gin / wine.

S - bad news - just had some nuts. Good news they came in 53g bag, so I had automated portion control. That's 1/2 my running calories eaten back though.

Catch up later.

greenspaces4peace · 02/02/2023 17:05

The meal planning and photos are so motivating.
slightly better weigh in 149.7
salt wise today won’t be much better although my portions will be lovely.
bolognaise always has me retain water, planned to serve on grilled eggplant.

SanFranBear · 02/02/2023 18:07

Goodness - four pages already 😮

I fell off the January thread as life is ridiculously busy at the mo. I think I broadly managed to maintain from end of December / start of Jan but I find the accountability which comes from these threads so helpful so am diving back in. I'll weigh in the morning and see just how much damage this week's liquorice allsorts and cake have brought.

I've also managed to do something to my knee (putting bed frames together) so walking is a bit awkward. I do have a physio appointment in the morning for an assessment so hopefully I'll be on the emdm. I've still planned in a 20k hike for Saturday as I find once I get going, it's not too bad. Guess we'll see.

Right, am going to RTFT but just briefly - so lovely to see you posting, RealHousewife... hope you're feeling ok x

Weatherwax13 · 02/02/2023 18:41

I didn't post Wednesday weigh in as MN was so glitchy. I've been really strict on low carb and 16:8. Another week with absolutely zero junk. So I was disappointed but it's still moving in the right direction (barely!)
SW 88.8kg
GW 76kg
This week 82.19kg, so only just down from 82.3 last Wednesday.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/02/2023 20:09

I was very tempted to have a glass of wine tonight, but I've done a bodycombat class and have been pottering around doing a few chores to resist temptation. Feeling quite virtuous.

AutisticLegoLover · 02/02/2023 20:25

I've maxed out on my calorie allowance today but have walked nearly 11 miles. Average cals for the week so far are 1444 per day and I'm happy with that.
Friday tomorrow 😃

greenspaces4peace · 03/02/2023 02:10

decent day, hoping it shows on the scale. still have my water to drink but fasting since 1730. no complaints really.

SanFranBear · 03/02/2023 07:35

Getting in before the mammoth new school run... as expected, I am exactly the same weight as I was beginning of December:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 68.4kg
Feb TW: 67kg

I did get down to just over 67kg in mid December (due to stress and my move!) but have crept up a but since then. Overall though, am really happy!

I've got an energetic few days coming up (if my knee is willing) which whilst may not make the biggest difference in 'weight loss' itself, definitely makes me snack less...

Happy Friday all - promise to name-check and join in with you all a bit better in the next few days!

AutisticLegoLover · 03/02/2023 07:39

Yay, it's Friday! My task for the day is sorting the pantry and cupboards. There wasn't enough milk for porridge this morning so I've had crumpets and will have porridge for lunch. Waitrose delivery later and I'm hoping their strawberries and raspberries are good today.
Have a good day y'all!

ImALittlePea · 03/02/2023 07:51

Nice to see you back and happy @SanFranBear have faith, you can and will get back to it!

Surprising weigh in for me today, lost just under 2lb somehow?! I think getting back onto MFP has helped me refocus this week, maybe. Whatever it is - big relief as I was expecting to see at 10 on the scale. So yay to that!

Plan for today:
Lunch - quesedilla (probs just a basic cheese, onion and peppers filling) and salad
Dinner - friends over for dinner, making sausages, mash and plenty of veg. And wine 😁

Happy Friday everyone!

Cloudberries123 · 03/02/2023 08:00

Morning all, the last of the leftover lasagna for breakfast this morning + a large coffee because of baby life.

Bit of an overeating and snacky day yesterday, but I feel I'm over the crest of it and looking forward to keeping it fresh and nutritious today and over the weekend. Repeat to self: it's about the long term, it's about the long term...

Ninjachicken · 03/02/2023 08:12

@Cloudberries123 i keep having to remind myself of that too. Long term change.but the downward trend is just soooo slow!!!!!
i love your breakfasts, my favourite is breakfast cake 😁
@greenspaces4peace do you still have to prepare food for other people when you are fasting? I would find that really tough..
@buzzofthebumblebee how did last night go?? I am not good at moderation either!!

Was generally feeling rubbish yesterday and scoffed three squares of milka and two Oreos. Don’t think I even enjoyed them really.
i think AF may be on the way. Walk today and exercise video later. I need to try and eat as little as possible today as have in-laws coming over tonight and they are bringing take-away pizza. Take-aways are a rare treat in our house, nothing to do with restraint they are just hard to come by!
Sun is shining here but it is back down to -5 this morning but meant to be 10 degrees again this afternoon

TheRealHousewife · 03/02/2023 08:22

Good Morning All

I agree @Cloudberries123 It's all about the overall long term 👍

@ImALittlePea 2lb loss is a great result! Well done 👏

Hello @SanFranBear, it's lovely to see you! You'll soon be back into it! Hope your knee isn't too painful and soon recovers! I was washing skirting boards yesterday and banged my knee into a hall table leg 😣

@AutisticLegoLover 11 miles is fantastic! Well done! 👏

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo well done on swerving the wine!

@Weatherwax13 Youre still going in the right direction👍 I agree MN is very glitchy. I've lost a few posts myself. I think it's all the ads.

@greenspaces4peace well done on sticking to your regime. Not always easy when it's cold and snowy.

@buzzofthebumblebee as far as snacks go you can't do better than nuts! Good fats, protein and fibre. I'm partial to a nut or two myself 😬

@SingaporeSlinky hahaha . I have a few different Emma Bridgewater patterns.

@Ninjachicken Just put yesterday behind you, it's not uncommon to digress from healthy eating sometimes. As you noticed, you didn't enjoy your snacks that much. Ask yourself ... Are you bored, stressed or underfed?

@VastQuantities welcome to the thread! As you might have noticed although this thread supports healthy eating & life style choices for weight loss we don't follow 'diets' par se. Diets don't work. It's about sustainable healthy eating full of healthy fats, proteins, some complex carbs, fibre etc. Fit in some exercise if able and time permits.

Thank you @TheRealHousewife i really do turn to food for comfort and I need to think about how to change that. Because it does not work and then you are in a vicious cycle. I am trying not to buy unhealthy stuff. But my other half eats rubbish constantly and buys it himself if I don’t. So it is always there!! I need more self control I know but it is hard sometimes

TheRealHousewife · 03/02/2023 08:36

@Allthegoodnamestakken Ooo how exciting! I find it fascinating that we have people from all over the globe on this thread ❤️

@ImALittlePea It's basically a 2 or 3 egg omelette on a corn tortilla. Depending on calories available depends what I add. I'll share the full delicious version 😋

  • Crack 2 or 3 eggs into a jug with a pinch of salt & pepper. Add grated mozzarella and a splash of fresh cream.
  • Add knob of butter (less than a teaspoon) to an omelette pan and melt.
  • Add egg mixture and pull cooked egg away from side of pan and keep swirling the uncooked egg into the space created. Repeat until bottom is cooked. Top will still be uncooked.
  • Add pre sliced chorizo on the top.
  • Add corn tortilla over the chorizo and firm down with a spatula.
  • Take a plate wider than the pan and put on top. Turn over the pan whilst holding the plate in place so omelette is transferred to the plate with the tortilla on the bottom.
  • Slide omelette tortilla side down back into pan. Cook for a minute or 2 to brown the tortilla and finish cooking the egg.
  • When cooked to your satisfaction transfer to a board.
  • Spread a small amount of Scarachi sauce (and Mayo if desired) over the cooked egg side. Fold in half firmly and cut into segments with a sharp serrated knife. Enjoy 😋

Aftertheharvest · 03/02/2023 08:37

Ooh @TheRealHousewife i am intrigued how you make that omelette tortilla wrap?

NSV for me in that in January lost 1.5 inches from around my waist. I always find with IF I see the results in body shape quicker than on the scales.

TheRealHousewife · 03/02/2023 08:47

@Aftertheharvest I've just posted recipe/method. Very tasty and can be varied. I've done them with shredded cooked chicken in the omelette or chopped red peppers/onions. You can add anything really.

@Ninjachicken I understand. I think our emotional/mental health and well being are so entwined into how we eat. It's not always easy to navigate, especially if any unresolved issues. Food wise, it's the same in this household. My OH has an extremely sweet tooth, likes a drink etc. Several years ago I was diagnosed as celiac so that helps! I can't eat anything with gluten in. Very occasionally I do a bake with GF flour but not very often. Also my OH every night offers to get me a glass of wine and as I've got older I find it easy to decline. My younger self would not have been able to decline as I like to party 😬 Youre human, try not to put yourself under pressure and be kind to yourself ❤️

TheRealHousewife · 03/02/2023 08:49

@Aftertheharvest Well done on your NSV! Reducing waist/height ratio is excellent! Some clinicians rate that above bmi in regards to improving health markers. Well done 👏

OP posts:
Aftertheharvest · 03/02/2023 08:52

Thanks @TheRealHousewife if only I could reduce the ratio with gaining a few inches in height 😂

TheRealHousewife · 03/02/2023 08:54

Hahahaha me too!

buzzofthebumblebee · 03/02/2023 09:31

I stuck to 2 glasses of fizz, thanks @Ninjachicken . Could easily have had more, could easily have done without. It tasted good. But am really feeling it today! Not sure if it's the late night, sugar, or the alcohol but I'm feeling slow. I'm just back from gym and was embarrassingly super sweaty too. Hope you have a "better" day Ninja, but on balance you could have been much worse.

Well done on your mini-whoosh @ImALittlePea !

Have a good day everyone. Keep active and away from the snacks.

Ninjachicken · 03/02/2023 09:53

Thanks so much @TheRealHousewife and @buzzofthebumblebee (and well done on only two glasses of fizz)! It’s so lovely to have people who understand and give support. I also love to party so it is definately a total mindset change
@Aftertheharvest i am 5ft 2 on a good day. I would dearly love to add a few inches upwards 😂

TheRealHousewife · 03/02/2023 09:54

Do any of you follow your macros (protein fat carbs)

What ratio do you aim for?

Overall I find my fat ratio runs too high. I aim for 30% carbs, 35% protein, 35% fat. I don't often get them bang on but try for near enough.

Morning all.

Well done @ImALittlePea on your loss !

@Aftertheharvest great NSV! You have reminded me to take my measurements at this weeks weigh in!

Back at work today, and the plan is as follows:

Lunch pea and ham soup, with an apple and yoghurt for pud!
Dinner family are having scampi and chips, so I'll have scampi and a large salad.
I have tea and a cereal bar to starve off the snack vibes!
