This is a continuation of the diet for Christmas challenge that was undertaken in 2022. Thank you to @OhFatty for starting that.

It is a group of us wanting a supportive environment to loose weight in the long term. Hopefully the posters from the Christmas challenge will sign up again and new members are welcome.

We each have our own way of doing this and there are no rules other than being encouraging to everyone and cheering on successes.

Thank you everyone! I'm hoping this gives me the burst of focus I need to really manage my diet. Feeling quite queasy (rather than sick) atm, so trying to eat little and often and stick to healthier snacks. Also ginger tea - I find herbal teas really good for my diet any way so a cup of that in the morning is a nice habit to get into.

Dashel · 19/01/2023 17:39

Thank you @Gemzee @WutheringShites86 @bigdecisionstomake @summer2023

I am now more than a stone lighter that at my heaviest which was 11st 7. Most of the weight has come off my middle area, especially my belly, but my waist has shrunk a bit too. I think some has come off my face and neck too. I don’t really see it in the mirror but DH says he can see it.

@summer2023 congratulations on your loss 🥳 It’s quite challenging mentally to accept what you are doing is not working and to find the motivation and willpower to change it and not just think screw it I give up - which I have done on numerous occasions in the past, but no longer!

@Maraudingmarauders i hope the queasiness passes quickly.

@bigdecisionstomake congratulations on your loss too! I will check out those videos as much as I find GFWR really good, it’s nice to mix things up. Although I’m looking forward to using my Les Mills app again. The classes are so good. I might try Shabam next week although I can’t see DH joining in - but we shall see!

If any one knows of any good dance videos on something like Zumba/Latin, Country or Bangra I would love some recommendations please.

Congratulations @Maraudingmarauders thats wonderful news!

Dashel · 20/01/2023 06:39

Good morning and TFI Friday 🥳

Another small loss from me I’m now 10st 3.3lb so really happy with that and will carry on over the weekend as I want to be 10st 2 something asap.

I managed 20k steps yesterday. DH was short on his steps so when he got home I did another GFWR session. I had already done one before work, a 1300 step at at lunch and did some marching after work whilst talking to the in laws before he got home.

Although I don’t think the scales are 100% accurate with body fat, they are showing a downward trend which is good. I had 1650 calories but woke up hungry and cold at 4.30 so will no doubt struggle a bit today.

The plan is to get our steps in and DH has agreed to do a strength workout with me. Obviously no booze and try and be on plan with food.

I also bought some Epsom salts bath salts to hopefully use over the weekend for a detox bath. I know it’s probably an old wives tale, but if a long hot bath is a quack cure then I’m happy to be a quack. I don’t do weight loss tea or anything like that, but I think Epsom salts are considered safe if not scientifically proven and were only £4 for a large packet.

I hope that everyone has a great day

Morning!

Had a bit of a whoosh on the scales this morning - 4 & a quarter lbs off! 😊

Various reasons for this I think:
Last week I was premenstual so probably some of that bloating has come off.
TMI but I was having tummy issues which are now resolved!
Walked a bit more this week and 0 alcohol days!

Also I have an underactive thyroid which was diagnosed a few months ago - last year I couldn't lose a lb a week & I was working out much more so I think the levothyroxine I'm taking is kicking in and hopefully correcting my metabolism a bit!

I'm happy to lose 1/2 - 1lb a week now, my 1st goal is only just over 4lbs away and I'd be estatic if I could get near that by my 40th (under 6wks away) 😊

Happy Friday all!

Fab news @Gemzee and @Dashel. I've got a challenging day today so need to be mindful not to overeat - I'm an emotional eater.

bigdecisionstomake · 20/01/2023 10:11

Morning all

@Dashel I'm so pleased for you, you've really worked hard for it and deserve it. It sounds like the scales have just had a bit of a delayed reaction - that happens to me too sometimes. Interested to hear how the epsom salts bath goes - is it meant to help with weight loss or just repair sore muscles?

@Gemzee Hip hip hooray for your whoosh! Isn't it great when that happens. Fantastic to be only 4 pounds away from your first goal - that should be easily do-able in the next 6 weeks.

@summer2023 Fantastic progress so far, the changes you've made have obviously really paid off. It's great motivation when you've got a target in sight isn't it!

A small gain for me today, up to 10st 13.2lb but hanging on in there in the 10s so not too worried at this point. Also, I know I'm eating within calories and being consistent with my exercise so just need to trust the process.

I've done a 15 minute cardio burst from 'fitwithmik' this morning which I enjoyed. Some of it was high impact but she gave low impact options for all the high impact moves so I did a mixture of both. I followed it with day 6 of CGs Christmas series which was a back workout. It was hard going but I struggled through. The next in the series is Legs which is my nemesis so not looking forward to that on Monday.

I was due to be meeting my cousin at a tea shop for lunch tomorrow but he messaged yesterday to ask if we could meet later for tea and cake instead. I really don't want to have cake so am thinking I might try to have a late breakfast and then just have a sandwich/panini etc... as a late lunch instead. We're meeting at 2pm so I think that's doable. I know I should be able to just have a drink and not eat cake but my cousin is morbidly obese and weight is a touchy subject with him so I know it will cause tension if I just sit with a cup of tea while he eats cake and I don't see him all that often so I don't want it to be awkward. Trying to unpick the psychology of why I can't just have a drink and not eat in front of him (which I would do with anyone else) is driving me a bit loopy - is it just me who over analyses these things?

Have good days all.

bigdecisionstomake · 20/01/2023 10:12

Good luck with your challenging day @WutheringShites86

encoreunfoisnumber2 · 20/01/2023 10:26

I managed another gym session today. It wasn't the planned 6am session I wanted but I went in-between dropping DC at school and starting work. 20km on the bike, 55 mins. I've done the bike all week now and nearly every day, will be doing weights next week to mix it up a bit. Weigh in next Friday.
Keep up the good work everyone.

@Gemzee wow that is a great big whoosh! Fantastic news 🥳and a huge incentive to keep on track - at least until your 40th!

@WutheringShites86 i hope today went better than you thought it would and wasn’t too stressful.

@bigdecisionstomake thank you, I am giving this as much as I can. From what I understand, Epsom salts were like the old cure all, people (not doctors) prescribed them for everything. I think there is evidence that a hot bath with them is good for stress as baths are anyway and there are various claims about detoxing and weight loss. But for me it’s an excuse for a bath where I have to stay in for 20 minutes. We have oil heating as I’m very rural so I feel guilty every time I have one so I feel like I need a justification. But maybe they might help a bit.

It sounds like you have been very busy and working hard yourself! I don’t think it’s just you who over analyses everything (see waffling about justifying having a bath). I hope up you enjoy seeing your cousin tomorrow.

@encoreunfoisnumber2 sounds like you are getting lots of exercise!

WutheringShites86 · 20/01/2023 19:55

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. DD is a bit poorly and was waking up every 30-60 mins all night last night wanting to be attached to me comfort feeding so I was exhausted before today even etarted! Then I've had a very full on day at work involving 6 hours travel with meals and food options out of my control.

I have gone over calories but still got a small deficit, lots of what I've logged on mfp today has been estimated so hoping its accurate!

Will have to be good over the weekend to make up for it.

How did you get on @bigdecisionstomake ?

Your exercise regime is impressive @encoreunfoisnumber2 !

autienotnaughty · 20/01/2023 22:15

Thanks guys weighed my self today and I’ve lost a pound. Little gutted was hoping for two but it’s a step in right direction.

Helpmegetajob · 21/01/2023 05:19

Can I join?

im looking to lose 20kg, I did it last year but sadly was not sustainable and I put it all back on 🙁

I get very obsessed with the numbers in the scales so just trying to limit weighing myself and regularly exercise and do OMAD .

aiming for 3 kg a month 😀

Dashel · 21/01/2023 07:35

Good morning!

@WutheringShites86 that sounds like a very long day without a sick dc so I think you did amazingly well! Travel and tiredness are snaccidents waiting to happen.

@autienotnaughty a loss is still a loss and a pound is good!

@Helpmegetajob welcome on board! Did you loose it last year on OMAD? I would have a plan so when you get closer to your target you can transition to more sustainable habits. If OMAD isn’t something you want to do forever. It’s amazing you managed to loose so much.

I had a small gain this morning and I’m back to 10st 3.7lb. This is probably because I had a fair bit of carbs yesterday and we had oven chips with dinner so salt too. My hunger got the better of me and I even had two wheetabix before I went to bed. I came in at bang on 2000 calories but did a biceps and triceps workout with JW and two GFWR workouts to get my 15k steps in.

We are prepping for decorating today so not a fun day but I will still make sure I get my steps in and try to eat less carbs today.

I hope everyone has a great day today.

morning!

I can’t remember what weight I last shared but I’m 12st 10 this morning, same weight as just before new year.

bigdecisionstomake · 21/01/2023 09:21

Morning all

I'm tired just thinking about your day @WutheringShites86 it sounds like you did well to still come in with a bit of a deficit though. I hope you manage to catch up on some sleep/rest this weekend.

Fantastic work in the gym @encoreunfoisnumber2 !

@summer2023 yes, I think that's my plan - I'm going to still have crumpets for breakfast (weekend treat) but have them later than usual and then not eat again until I meet my cousin and just make out I've been rushed for time and haven't had lunch yet hence having a sandwich/salad rather than cake. Hopefully that will fly. I've also done an extra 150 calories of exercise this morning as I'm expecting lunch at the tea room will be more calorie heavy than I would usually have at home.

Well done on losing a pound @autienotnaughty I think a pound is great and slow and steady is definitely the way to lose and be able to keep it off in future.

@Helpmegetajob welcome - this is a lovely supportive thread and I hope it helps you. Hope OMAD works for you and gets you to your target sustainably this time.

@Dashel I'm in awe at the amount of DIY you and your DH seem to fit in each weekend. My house is in desperate need but my DP is not that way inclined at all and I'm not that confident attempting stuff by myself.

@Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday Is that a loss for you? If so then well done! Are you happy with your progress so far?

I'm back down to 10st 12.8lb this morning - so I'm bouncing around a bit as is the way these things often go. I'm hoping lunch out today won't de-rail me too much and I know that moving forwards it's important to be able to fit social things into my plan without just thinking I've blown it and throwing the towel in.

I've done a 25 min dance through the decades workout with 'uptothebeatfitness' on YouTube followed by a 10 minute flow for back flexibility as I've got a few twinges going on at the moment. I followed that up with 30 minutes brisk walking as I'm not sure I'll get a chance for a walk later and I wanted to bank the extra calories towards lunch.

Have good days all.

SweetPeaGirl · 21/01/2023 12:55

@WutheringShites86 I don't like people to know either! I think it's because my family are yo-yo dieters and as soon as they know you're trying to lose they start constantly asking how it's going and how much have you lost etc. I think they're trying to be encouraging but for me it feels like it actually encourages obsession and kind of disordered eating.

So I'd prefer to do it privately and talk about normal things with them all!

WutheringShites86 · 21/01/2023 17:03

@SweetPeaGirl, yes I think the people closest to me would be supportive but I just don't want to get into it with them!

I'm so hungry today, I think the tiredness is getting to me. I think a good result for me this week would be to stay the same.

encoreunfoisnumber2 · 21/01/2023 17:15

I also don't like to tell people I'm dieting or going to the gym. I want to do it alone & how I want to. I've not told any friends in RL that I've joined the gym or go to the gym classes. Friends want to go on healthy walks, which to them is a walk around the field with a coffee type of thing. I would want to do at least 5 miles as a minimum

WutheringShites86 · 21/01/2023 18:11

Good to know I'm not the only one stealth dieting! 😄

Helpmegetajob · 22/01/2023 04:54

@Dashel @bigdecisionstomake
thanks both

For now OMAD helps reduce crazy sugar highs and lows for me and I do have off plan days so I can transition back.

I think I just need far less too to survive than my stomach/brain wants to accept 😅

What are people’s thoughts on being very overweight/obese but actually being quiet fit and healthy?

I ask because that’s me, I have a low resting pulse rate and BP, can do 3-5 exercise classes per week but seem to gravitate back to 90kg everytime I lost weight. Starting to wonder if it’s my set point and be done with it?
