Diet For Summer Challenge

Dashel · 02/01/2023 19:11

This is a continuation of the diet for Christmas challenge that was undertaken in 2022. Thank you to @OhFatty for starting that.

It is a group of us wanting a supportive environment to loose weight in the long term. Hopefully the posters from the Christmas challenge will sign up again and new members are welcome.

We each have our own way of doing this and there are no rules other than being encouraging to everyone and cheering on successes.

I’d like to lose 4st by June, it’s a long shot but here we go. Better to try and fail then never try x

WutheringShites86 · 02/01/2023 20:38

Thanks for the new thread @Dashel.

I'm restarting with quite a gain from Xmas, although hoping a fair bit is water weight and pms bloat because I've put 3lbs on since yesterday!

Anyway, today's weigh in was 15st 10lbs so that's my new starting point.

Here we go! 💪

Ohmywhat · 02/01/2023 21:11

Please can I join?

My journey is much more than being slimmer for summer, I need to do it before I kill myself.

I do have 2 holidays to look forward to in August so will use those as a motivation.

Need to lose around 6 stone and I'll still be obese but normal looking at least!

I started a VLCD this morning and going fine so far.

Dashel · 02/01/2023 21:29

@WutheringShites86 glad to see you on here 🥳And welcome to @Ohmywhat and @IveHadEnoughNowFfs

@IveHadEnoughNowFfs I agree that it’s better to aim high and get partially there than not to try and fail by default! My aim is a six pack but realistically it’s never going to happen 🤣

@Ohmywhat I also have two holidays booked the first one is the 30th of April so every day counts! I find they are great motivation though. We will help all we can and the last thread we has was really positive so I really hope that posting on here will help keep you accountable and on track and so you can sort out your health. I am sure you are normal looking now. One thing I noticed when I was really on the diet/health kick/exercise last year was that it made me want to make more of an effort with my appearance which is something I am really pants at and the combination of all that made me feel happier in myself.

@WutheringShites86I too have put on quite a bit over Christmas but I’m hoping for a better result on the scales tomorrow and that some of it will come off easily. I am hoping my very regular weeing today is a good sign 😂

Right I need sleep and I will make the effort to stick on my night cream (It’s a new thing I bought when I was feeling better and also need to restart). I will update tomorrow and set my intentions for the delay and weight.

Hello 👋 I want to lose 2.5stone by summer (assuming I don't get pregnant by then!)

I'm 12st 7lbs, aiming for 10st or there abouts. Put on a stone over the last 6months after taking on a desk job where I can snack as I work.
Mostly going to be calorie counting. I've just bought a pedometer to keep on top of my steps and signed up to a circuit class.
Aiming for 1200-1500kcal a day (I've found in the past I lose better on 14-1500 than down at 1200, but I feel like my metabolism is in free fall so we will see how it goes).

ALittleBitAhAh · 02/01/2023 21:55

I'd love to join please! I'm not so focused on weighing myself as using clothes as a gauge. I have a specific dress I want to fit into by October. It's at least 2 sizes down (might be 3 but I'm in bed and too lazy to check!). I'm not following a specific diet. I am vegan but have been eating shite for a good while. Just trying to go back to cooking from scratch and moving a bit more 😁

ALittleBitAhAh · 02/01/2023 21:56

Sorry, October obvs isn't summer 🙈 but is on the way right?!

Stepcount · 02/01/2023 22:59

Hi, checking in. Thank you @Dashel for setting this up. I finished 2022 21 lbs lighter than when I joined the Christmas weight loss thread in August. And I hadn’t made much effort to lose in December so overall happy with what I achieved. As of this morning there has been about a 2-3 lb regain over Christmas/New Year but I am delighted that it wasn’t more and hopeful that I can have another good go at it soon. I’m allowing myself to be a little more relaxed for the next week or so before my older DD returns to uni. Good luck everyone 💪🏻

LibbySarjeant · 02/01/2023 23:36

I would love to join! Have 3 stone to lose, or possibly more depending on what the scales say post-Christmas when I'm finally brave enough to get on them

Heading into peri menopause, fed up with being wobbly, tired and unfit, and very fed up with getting skin tags - urgh. Trying to brave it and get rid of them myself as I understand the NHS don't treat them any more - understandable but annoying as I'm a bit squeamish about it!

Planning to work out a decent exercise routine after I get back to work tomorrow. Looking forward to getting back into a routine generally as DTS1 has ASD and just doesn't cope well without a routine... school and after school clubs save us.

Dashel · 03/01/2023 06:45

@Stepcount im so glad you came over and well done on the small Christmas gain. I am sure it will go soon.

Welcome to @Maraudingmarauders I find upping my steps gives me a loss without having to stick to 1200. @ALittleBitAhAh I am also vegan and have found that there is simply too much vegan junk food about and surprisingly it’s not good for your waistline, so like you I am cutting that out. No worries about timing as I’m hoping we have another thread after this one.@LibbySarjeant honestly get back on the scales, at least you will have all the facts. There must be people who will get rid of the skin tags for you? It sounds like it would be worth the money?

So a little about me, I’m 42 and 5ft 3 and my best adult weight was 10st 4lb in mid December. I lost just over a stone last year with the help of the diet for Christmas challenge. I then hurt my back in mid December and when that started to heal I caught Covid and unfortunately it hit me quite hard. My chest still can’t cope with any cardio as it gets so tight.

Yesterday I weighed in at 10st9 and then did 25k steps and the first time I have hit my 15k target in weeks. It tired out both myself and DH and I am feeling it today. I weighed in at 10st 7.7 this morning so a day of steps and clean eating really helped.

My plan is sticking to a clean high protein vegan diet, walking 15k steps a day, redoing Joes Wicks 21 days of strength and then starting cardio again when I feel up to it. I also weigh in daily as it works for me and then like to post.

My target weight for my holiday at the end of April is 9st 7lb with some toning and muscle gain so lots of hard work is needed.

I need to get up now and go for my first daily walk before work. Have sorted out my chocolate protein powder overnight oats, left over roast dinner for lunch and left overs for dinner too with watermelon for pudding.

If I could pass on only one piece of advice it would be meal planning and batch cooking will really help.

Have a great day everyone!

TheBatwoman · 03/01/2023 06:49

Morning everyone, just checking in. Thanks for the new thread @Dashel.

Have some work to do after a little break over the holidays too.

ALittleBitAhAh · 03/01/2023 07:17

Thanks @Dashel 💛 I've batch cooked a chilli for lunches and meal planned for the week. Just weighed myself and am 13st 8lbs. Fully dressed and after a cuppa but gives a good ballpark. I reckon I need to lose 3 stone to fit in that dress.

Here we go!

ishouldntsaybut · 03/01/2023 08:07

Morning, I'd love to join in! Far too embarrassed to put down my weight (at the moment) but I want to loose an initial 3 stone. It's my son's graduation in June and I'd like to be most of the way there by then.

Started yesterday calorie counting using my fitness pal, had year's of excuses but no more.

bigdecisionstomake · 03/01/2023 08:21

Morning all, can I join please? I need some accountability.

Until recently I have been a healthy BMI all my life but the last year was a bit rubbish for a number of reasons and I made excuses over and over again about not exercising and eating too much rubbish food.

Every now and again I would weigh myself and embark on an exercise and healthy eating plan only for it to get derailed after a few days and bad habits would start to creep back in again. I haven't weighed myself now for at least two months and am certain that I am now the heaviest I've ever been. I know this because in October I finally gave in and bought some jeans in a larger size as I could no longer squeeze into my old ones and now even the new ones are starting to feel tight.

My GP says my ideal weight for my height should be 9 stone 11lbs so this is my target. My dad has a significant birthday today so I have a day of food, drink, cake etc... ahead of me but I will weigh in first thing tomorrow morning and record my start point. I suspect this will be around 11 and half stone but will post again tomorrow with the exact figure.

Plan is to do some form of daily movement, either a YouTube home workout or a walk. I am 54 and need to incorporate strength training at least 3 times a week. I started the Joe Wicks 21 days of strength challenge last year in one of my bursts of fitness but only got to around day 5 or 6 before falling off the wagon again so I may re-start this, or find a similar alternative.

Sugar and alcohol are my two downfalls so I want to try to reduce both significantly. Other than that I already eat reasonably healthily but need to cut down on portion sizes and snacking. I may count calories initially to help re-set my portion sizes to a more appropriate level but am hoping I can avoid anything too restrictive long term and just start making better choices.

I know at my menopausal stage of life losing the excess weight isn't going to be easy (or quick) but I really need to do this for my own health and well being. I failed so often last year that it seems a mammoth challenge now but I'm hoping joining a group like this and the accountability that gives might make this year more successful.

Amisillyornot · 03/01/2023 09:43

Hello
I would like to join please - i need to lose 2 stone to get to my ideal weight. I have a holiday in July. Thanks

Sortmyshitout · 03/01/2023 09:48

I’d also like to join please! I need to lose 2.5-3stone. Weighed myself this morning 😬😬 think iv been in denial for awhile but the clothes and scales don’t lie! I’m going to low carb

ToughTimesDon'tLastToughPeopleDo · 03/01/2023 12:09

I would like to join also please. I was a size 8/10 when I met my husband but the weight has slowly crept on over the years and I'm really not happy with my new body.
I'm now in the right frame of mind to do something about it finally, after struggling with my MH for a long time. I'm definitely a comfort eater!
I've just signed up to do Weight Watchers as it fits in best with my lifestyle and I think it really helps to log and review what I'm eating throughout the day.
My sister is getting married and has asked me to be her Maid of Honour so I'm using that as a goal to get back into shape before the hen do and wedding.
Good luck everyone, it's not easy to change our eating habits and lifestyle but I'm sure with the encouragement from each other, we can do it. Here's to a happier, healthier 2023 Smile

WutheringShites86 · 03/01/2023 14:42

Hi All

I've weighed again this morning and was 4lbs lower at 15st 6lbs so thankfully some of that was just pms bloat! I'll count 15st 6lb as my new starting point.

For those who weren't on the last thread, I'm going slow and steady by calorie counting and logging on mfp. My biggest hurdle is sleep deprivation from my toddler who is the world's worst sleeper and working full time meaning I'm prone to giving into junk and takeaways when I'm exhausted.

I got down to the 14s on the last thread but after a really bad run with DDs sleep then going a bit off the rails at Xmas I am back firmly in the 15s so my first goal is to shift the first half stone. I was over 17st at my biggest though so at least I'm still a long way from that!

I'm using this week as a reset, getting back in the swing of logging and meal planning.

On the last thread most of us did weekly weigh in on Sundays.

NeedToBeLessLarge2023 · 03/01/2023 15:14

The NHS BMI Calculator says I need to lose 5 stone to be a healthy weight 🥺 Before lockdown and having ds I was wearing size small, 10/12 and even some 14-15 years clothes but now I'm in size Large/16-18 😥 I used to do gymnastics, zumba, aqua aerobics and clubbercise but now I just lay on the sofa watching tv (often with snacks) when I've got ds to bed and when he's playing independently in the day. We go to toddler classes most days so I'm always out and about but quiet moments have definitely turned into lay and eat times 😬

Ds will be 2 in August and I want to lose the weight (1-2 stone is probably more realistic?) by then as I want to make sure I have the energy to run around with him, play tig, go to the park ect.

I'm going to try and cut out Fizzy pop, have no dessert days, eat healthier snacks and do some YouTube exercise videos even if it's just once or twice a week for 10 minutes to start with 🤔

SnowyMouse · 03/01/2023 16:09

May I join too? I'm 11 stone 5.75, I want to lose 2 stone (3 jan 2023)

Diet2023 · 03/01/2023 16:48

Can I join you all too please?

I'd like to lose 20lb.

Start: 166lb
Goal: 146lb

If I aim for 1lb per week I'd ideally like to hit the goal by the end of May.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 03/01/2023 18:25

Happy new year! Hope you all had a lovely time over Christmas.

reporting in from the Christmas challenge- I actually hit 12st 10 which was 3 stone off over the break thanks to a tummy bug, back up to 12st 13 this morning though after an overindulgent new year.

target is to get to 11st 7 so 20lbs to go

thank you @Dashel for starting the thread

Dashel · 03/01/2023 19:50

I hope everyone has had a good and productive day.

Great to see you back @TheBatwoman 🥳 I think most of us will be in the post Christmas boat

@ALittleBitAhAh you will be even lower first thing. I weigh in my PJs, DH weighs in the nude 🫣do you have a link to a picture of it or something similar? Congrats on getting organised!

welcome to @ishouldntsaybut there is no need to share you weight but it won’t be anything to be embarrassed about. I hope you share your losses though. MFP is such a great tool, have you had a look at the forum part? There are some really inspiring posts and success stories.

@bigdecisionstomake welcome! I also need accountability, plus for me to be successful at this, I need to go all obsessive and post a lot, it sounds like you have a good plan, but have you thought about cutting out alcohol completely? I have found in the past that a glass of wine leads to more plus snacking and avoiding exercise the next day. I was being so good in the week and undoing all my hard work on the weekends.

Hi and welcome @Amisillyornot. Where are you off to in July?

Welcome @Sortmyshitout i love your username! Hopefully you will be clothes shopping soon for smaller sizes.

@ToughTimesDon'tLastToughPeopleDo when is the wedding and hen do? Weddings are such a good reason to stick to a healthy eating regimen. We will get there just need to keep focused and motivated. I have never tried Weight Watchers, are you doing the group in person version?

@WutheringShites86 that is an impressive loss overnight but bloating is a pain and reducing salt/carbs as well has a big effect so if you have done that together then I hope you got some sleep especially with the toddler.

@NeedToBeLessLarge2023 could you find ways of exercising with the toddler? I have a Les Mills on Demand account and on the Facebook group mums do some of the works with the toddler joining in and doing the dance moves or using toy weights or even their bike on some sort of device that kept it in one place whilst their parents did a spin class.

@Diet2023 you are very welcome to join in and hopefully you will smash your target!

@Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday I am glad that you found us. Sorry you were sick, it is a horrible time of year to be poorly. Hopefully those three pounds will be gone soon with the rest following them.

As @WutheringShites86 said, most people weighed in on the last thread on Sundays, I like to daily weigh and then use the weekly average (as calculated on my Fitbit) as my weight, so if people want to use Sundays and check in, then possibly that might be a good time to reflect on the week gone and think about how to deal with the next week or any prep they want to do?

That looks amazing! Is the recipe online?

I had left over M&S no beef wellington that we cooked on New Year’s Day which was purchased for Christmas 2022 with lots of veg. Hopefully the pastry won’t be too bad and no doubt the high salt content isn’t great but it was taking up a lot of room in the freezer and needed to be used and too expensive and nice to throw away.
