Hi ladies,

Here is the new thread.

@swallowedAfly i think it is fine, sensible, to ask people to be considerate, but I also think the way I feel about my body has no bearing on the way I feel about anyone else’s. It actually wasn’t me your post was responding to, but feeling like the way we can/should use language is being managed gets my hackles up. It was clear you are a teacher from your post! (As am I, so potato-potato.)

I looked into Saxenda. My BMI was 25.5 last time I weighed so I don’t qualify - however I can’t see how anyone can check if you are buying it online? I’m in a mess of hormones as I am taking the pill on top of the Mirena because I need an abdominal scan to check it is in the right place (the gynae doc couldn’t find it with the vaginal scan because I have a tilted uterus) so I feel completely shite. My skin has gone absolutely wild so I have the face of a 14 year old boy while simulaneousjy looking like a tubby middle aged wifie. I am finding this period of life very hard and (I know this sounds pathetic as I have a very supportive DP and loads of friends) very lonely.

On the plus side my foot is healing and I ran (gently) almost 5K earlier.

LBB2020 · 05/09/2022 20:36

Well done @Judystilldreamsofhorses!
I don’t recognise myself in the mirror at the moment! I’m permanently tired (thank you DS2!), over a stone heavier than I am
used to and I keep having allergic reactions so my eyes are very swollen and the skin around them very dry (I can’t work out what’s causing it as I haven’t changed anything!) which means putting makeup on just looks awful.
Keep going you’ll come through this phase. I’m not sure if it interests you but The Body Coach has done a few videos on instagram recently about peri menopause and menopause (I had a listen to the one with Davina)

swallowedAfly · 05/09/2022 21:22

It doesn't sound pathetic at all and if you're ending up with excess progesterone it would be hell - I tried the mini pill once and my mood and sanity was wrecked hence being scared to try anything other than patches as the gentlest way of getting progesterone. I feel like the mirena would be really practical and because it's a very low dose all the time might mean less ups and downs of hormones and mood but I'm too scared to try it.

Didn't mean to sound teacher like. I actually feel bad about how carelessly I used to moan about my weight and how fat I was etc in front of people larger than me when younger and a lot slimmer. I was so caught up in how I saw myself that it just didn't occur to me. I also remember a stage of ds starting to say negative things about his body and feeling like I was hearing my own words come out of his mouth and feeling awful about that and that it hadn't occurred to me that it could affect boys hearing their mother's talk like that about themselves as well as girls. That was a guilt ridden wake up call.

Sorry you're feeling so bad. I really hope it can get sorted soon. Any ideas how long to wait for a scan?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/09/2022 21:45

@LBB2020 i think you and I are generally in synch, and I bet you actually look fine. Objectively I know I do in my clothes at least, I just don’t feel “right”. Attached here is a photo from the weekend, which I can look at logically and say I look perfectly ordinary! Those jeans are a 12, and too big on the waist, but I need them on the bum.

@swallowedAfly i share an office with two women who are “plus sized” and they both look phenomenal. I never look at them and think they are fat or unattractive. It’s purely about me!

Re the HRT, I actually stopped the mini pill because my weight went up 10lb in three weeks after the coil went in. So I do know it’s just hormones! Anyway, I then started bleeding after not having had periods the whole time I was on it, which I didn’t really want with being back in work, so I re-started it a few weeks ago. Now I feel properly insane, my boobs are huge, and my skin is awful. Maybe I should have just waited it all out, I don’t know. It could be six months for the scan, I’ve not even had a letter yet and got the coil on 5 July.

LBB2020 · 05/09/2022 21:53

@Judystilldreamsofhorses we do seem to be in sync don’t we! You look great in the picture but I understand not feeling “right”. I’m trying to focus on eating more nutritious foods, drinking more water, getting some exercise and trying to get as much sleep as DS2 allows! Hopefully I’ll lose a few lbs too!

Octopus47 · 05/09/2022 22:14

@Judystilldreamsofhorses hope your scan appointment comes through soon, is it worth seeing if there are any cancellations if there's a long wait. For what it's worth, I think you look good, but it is about how you feel yourself. @LBB2020 hope that you feel better soon and that you manage to get more sleep.

OP posts:
LBB2020 · 06/09/2022 11:11

Thank you @Octopus47, DS2 has never liked sleep!
I had an ok day yesterday food wise, not enough steps as WFH but drank more water than I normally do. It’s a start!
Hope everyone else is ok

LBB2020 · 08/09/2022 07:22

Morning all, how is everyone doing this week? Mine has been ok so far, have managed to eat mostly sensibly and have been drinking more water (still not enough but it’s a start!). Have been WFH so steps have been rubbish but I’m off now so hopefully get moving a bit more! Hoping to make it to the gym tonight too depending on what time DH gets in from work

WorryMcGee · 08/09/2022 07:32

I’m joining as I need a kick up the arse. I have 1.5 stone of baby weight left to lose (baby is 20 weeks) and just been diagnosed with breast cancer so the treatment for that will likely make me put on more weight if I don’t deal with it now. I love exercise and do a lot of it, it’s chocolate (and wine) I need to pack in and both those things are so therapeutic when you’ve had bad news….also I don’t drink anywhere near enough water and I don’t actually know why…

LBB2020 · 08/09/2022 08:28

So sorry to hear about your diagnosis @WorryMcGee. Your baby is still tiny at 20 weeks, please don’t put lots of pressure on yourself. My “baby” is just about to turn 2yrs and I’m a stone heavier than my pre pregnancy weight (I did lose most of it then over the past year have put it back on!), I’m still breastfeeding and I’m sure that’s contributing to some of the weight hanging on!

Octopus45 · 13/09/2022 10:11

Hi,

How is everyone doing? Its all feeling a bit strange with Autumn starting and the Queen's death.

@Judystilldreamsofhorses and @LBB2020 hope you are both feeling a bit better.

LBB2020 · 13/09/2022 10:29

Morning @Octopus45 how are you? It’s got a bit quiet, thought I was talking to myself haha!
I'm ok, I started tracking my calories yesterday so hopefully that will help keep me on the straight and narrow (if I stick to logging them!). DH are both being mindful of evening snacking and it’s worked so far (even over the weekend we didn’t go crazy!). I weighed myself yesterday for the first time in weeks, 11st2lb I’m disappointed but it’s a kick up the bum!

Octopus45 · 13/09/2022 11:09

Wow @LBB2020 it sounds as if you are doing really well.

I'm ok, visited my Dad at the weekend and going again this weekend. He is quite stable at the moment which helps. From a food point of view, I'm starving hungry at the moment and feeling a bit run down. My stomach is growling as I type and its only 11am, I had my usual breakfast. Trying to stay on an even keel.

ShakeItOff40 · 13/09/2022 11:26

waves hello

WELL. I opened MFP yesterday and am 7lbs heavier than when I left it in February face palm

I'm trying macros as I am exercising a lot (not for weight loss, for my mental health) but I have been eating so much I just look a right old mess. Looking in the mirror or putting on anything other than gym leggings is not my favourite thing right now.

So I weighed in on Monday, but my official weigh in will be on Tuesday. Trying to have lots and lots of protein rather than crisps and chocolate and toast which is my go to which I'm busy and hungry.

Only an hour to lunch though...

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/09/2022 11:27

Morning. I've completely given up weighing after bouncing about when I started HRT, and actually feel afraid to get on the scales now. I feel like I look the same, and I know it's not a "true" weight anyway, so it's not worth the emotional rollercoaster. (Or am I deluding myself?) Interestingly I scrolled back and reviewed all my calorie burn on Fitbit from the start of the year to now, and the massive weight gain co-incides with a huge increase in calories used because of running!

I ran yesterday and three times last week - going slowly after injuring my foot.

Hope everyone is okay. I'm not interested in the royals but finding the non-stop news/interruption in scheduling all really disconcerting!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/09/2022 11:29

(Oh, the massive weight gain also co-incides with the HRT - ten pounds in the first three weeks.)

WorryMcGee · 13/09/2022 11:34

I have run a couple of 10ks with my friends and our dogs, and laid off the wine (apart from Saturday when I had a wobble) and 2lbs have come off. I have surgery Thursday so exercise will be off the cards for a bit :-( I ran up until I was 35 weeks pregnant and then switched to 5k walks, being sat on my arse is going to be really hard 😫

LBB2020 · 13/09/2022 12:33

Glad your dad is stable @Octopus45
Well done for getting back into it @ShakeItOff40, I don’t have many autumn/winter clothes that comfortably fit as I’m a stone heavier than this time last year!
@Judystilldreamsofhorses you have done fantastic with your running and giving up smoking this year, ignore the scales for now! You’re improving your health and fitness which is most important I think.
Well done on the weight loss @WorryMcGee, I hope your surgery goes smoothly

Octopus45 · 13/09/2022 12:35

Wow @WorryMcGee you really are an inspiration. I'm so impressed. Wishing you all the best for your surgery on Thursday

sparklyglitterball · 13/09/2022 22:28

Hey ladies, I've been awol most of the summer......but now with DC back at school/nursery I'm attempting a healthier diet. I usually default to 16:8 intermittent fasting, but have been enjoying having breakfast lately, so I'm gonna try to focus more on spreading the calories more evenly throughout the day and logging food on mfp. @WorryMcGee really sorry to hear about your diagnosis, what a stressful time for you with a baby to look after as well. Wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery. @Octopus47 sounds as though you're maintaining brilliantly as usual! @Judystilldreamsofhorses what a nightmare for you with the hormones causing havoc. Do you think it will all settle down eventually? Your figure looks lovely in the photo. @LBB2020 I also breastfed my three girls into toddler hood, and it certainly seems to make a lot of women hold onto a few extra pounds. It helped me to lose weight in the early days though!

sparklyglitterball · 13/09/2022 22:30

@ShakeItOff40 chocolate and wine are two things that I absolutely can't/won't give up! So I try (and often fail) to enjoy them in moderation Smile

WorryMcGee · 14/09/2022 00:20

Thanks everyone for the well-wishes ❤️ I’m inspired by all of you on here. I went for a 10k canicross run tonight with some friends and almost sacked it off because of the torrential rain but I went anyway, and my dog loved it so much and so did I. Just shows you that sometimes you just need to get moving because you never know, you may end up enjoying it!

LBB2020 · 14/09/2022 21:43

@sparklyglitterball i think breastfeeding helped me lose weight a bit more quickly to start with but I never managed to shift the last 5lbs or so (and I’ve now put back on a stone!). Wow @WorryMcGee that’s very impressive!
Hope everyone has had a good day. Mine has been ok, I’ve stuck to calories and haven’t snacked in the evenings at all this week. Work is finished for the week now so hopefully get my steps up over the next few days

sparklyglitterball · 14/09/2022 22:11

Well done on no evening snacking @LBB2020! I have a ritual of something sweet once kids are in bed. @WorryMcGee that's a good run, does your dog enjoy it too? I'm planning to squeeze in an early run tomorrow morning if I can be organised enough before school drop off. Hope everyone is doing ok? I think I'm just about staying within calories on my fitness pal......but I find a lot of the logging of food is guesstimates. I really need to measure and weigh portions etc to be more exact.

WorryMcGee · 14/09/2022 22:26

@sparklyglitterball she absolutely loved it, wet and muddy and with all her friends ❤️ I’m hoping to take her out tomorrow morning before I go in for my surgery as I don’t think we’ll be canicrossing for a little while after that. I’d only just got back into it after my c section 😞 she was so happy when I got her harness out and now we’ve got to stop again. Must kick husband up the arse and make him take her! Hope you get out for your run tomorrow morning 🙂
